BH042 Elizabeth I (1558-1603), �rown, mint mark 1, (1601), elaborate crowned bust left, holding orb and sceptre which points to I, three fingers on handle, rev. quartered shield of arms on cross fourchée, 29.32g (�ooper dies D/6; N.2012; S.2582). Tiny nick on forehead, attractive even tone, without the usual annealing striations that spoil so many of these magnificent portrait pieces, practically extremely fine and a very pleasing example. £15,000

It is interesting to note the clumsy treatment of the reverse design by the engraver in that the top left part of the arms has a fleur de lis out of the frame and a lion with a division line through it.
