It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work.
It will make generous gifts to causes,

Celebrating the Sacrament of Our Church Community
Parish Revenue Sharing Makes a Difference
IN OUR FAITH TRADTION WE KNOWthat whenever and
however parishes work together they always fulfill the mission of Christ more effectively. No one parish alone can accomplish the mission of Christ, especially when the needs of people are great. The Acts of the Apostles testifies to the world-wide importance of this mission. These early
communities of faith had a heighten sensitivity to helping each other - even when they were separated by great distances. Our “joint ownership” of the mission of Christ has always hastened the Reign of God.
For many years this tradition has also been very evident in our Archdiocese. Parishes raise money and work together in order to have a stronger sense of being a Catholic community because we want to do what Christ asked us to do - proclaim our faith by word and deeds. One example of our parish’s faithfulness to this command is our generous support for our Annual Catholic Appeal. Our giving - and that of all parishes - supports more charitable, educational, and pastorals works of the Church than one parish alone. Of this we can and should be proud as well as deeply grateful. Another form that such sharing of revenue takes is Parish Assessments. Every year parishes contribute a portion of their income in order to more cost effectively purchase property and health insurances as well as certain employee benefits. These assessments also help to fund the Archdiocesan administrative and support services parishes need for our pastoral work. Finally, these assessments, especially the newly created Alive In Christ scholarship program, will now begin to provide more tuition assistance help across the Archdiocese for families choosing Catholic education.
Because of our continuing and growing commitment to revenue sharing our parish school this year - and hopefully in years to come - will receive support for our operational expenses ($200,000) and for tuition assistance ($51,075). Furthermore, we expect to receive more assistance from parish assessments as more families register for the coming school year.
Our school also receives tuition assistance grants from several other private foundations and personal gifts, a few of which are also listed here. The funds listed below represent most of the assistance we have available for the coming school year. To date $76,653 of the $82,075 has been awarded as scholarships for students from 62 families, most of whom would be paying between 8% and 25% of their family income for Catholic education without this help.
$44,000 Alive In Christ Scholarships - Archbishop’s Mission Advancement $7,075 Catholic Family Tuition Assistance
$21,000 Grant from the Today and Tomorrow Foundation $10,000 Gift in Memory of Msgr. Carl Poelker
$82,075 Tuition Assistance for the 2012-2013 School Year
During the past year the members of our school’s sponsoring parishes have also contributed $22,606 through the monthly parish envelop in support of Catholic Education. I am deeply grateful for such generosity and for your continuing—and when possible increasing—financial support for our parish. Even with such new sources of revenue available to us, your giving each week is a necessary investment for the future of Catholic education. Your prayers and your personal encouragement of the young families in your neighborhood and here at church is also vitally important. This is the strength of any and every parish—that we encourage and care for each other.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The pilgrim experience of going by foot to Santiago de Compostella, the shrine of St. James, reaches its high point a month from now at the feast of the Apostle. By now, tens of thousands of pilgrims are already on the road. Typically, they cover twelve to twenty miles a day through rough territory. The difficult journey and the often primitive lodging facilities are made bearable by the joy of the pil-grims, their songs and prayers. When their journey is documented properly, they receive the scallop shell, a reminder not only of James the fisherman, but also his call to fish for human beings and to baptize the nations. In the Middle Ages, those who wore this badge on their hats were granted lodging and hospitality wherever they went. Next to the palm, the sign of a Jerusalem pilgrim, the scallop shell was most highly prized. In the Middle Ages, some people so enjoyed the pilgrim road, although it was filled with discomfort and danger, that they spent most of their lives on the road. Today, some people take up the route for exercise, but are drawn
gradually into the spirituality of the journey. As you make your summer travels, always fold in an
element of pilgrimage: a long walk through beautiful countryside, a visit to a church, a prayer of gratitude for your journey through life’s hills and valleys. —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

HEART ATTACKS AND
ASPIRIN
Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally be-tween 6 a.m. and noon, according to research done at the may Clinic. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means un-usual happened. Research also shows that sleep apnea is to blame.
If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night. Aspirin has a 24 hour “half-life”;therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the aspirin would be strongest in your system.
Aspirin last a really long time in your medicine chest. When it gets old, it smells like vinegar. Something that we can do to help ourselves is to dissolve the aspirin instantly on the tongue. It works much faster that way.
Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It’s about heart Attacks. There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. Know that an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating are also symptoms.
The majority of people who had a heart attack dur-ing their sleep did not have chest pain. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from deep sleep. If that happens, immediately dissolve 2 aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water
.
Afterwards :
Call 911
Do not be alone
Say “heart attack”
Say that you have taken 2 aspirins
Sit up...DO NOT LIE DOWN, until help
comes.
Take care, stay cool,

Protecting Religious Liberty
Keeping Abortion Out of Our Health Plans Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has until July 14th to decide whether to sign or veto SB 749. This bill makes sure that no one is forced to pay for abortions or contraceptives in their health insurance plans. Contact the governor today. Tell him abortion is not health care and you don’t want to pay for it in your health plan. Urge him to sign SB 749. Call Governor Nixon at 573-751-3222 or visit http://governor.mo.gov/contact/. SB 749 requires insurance companies to let people know up front whether a proposed policy includes
coverage for abortions and contraceptives. If people ob-ject on moral or religious grounds, the insurer must ex-clude these items from the customer’s health plan. Though the courts may rescind or hold invalid the recent mandate of the US Department of Health and Hu-man Services, the passage of SB 749 is still
necessary, if the rights of consumers with moral or religious objections to such coverage are to be
protected. Without this law insurance companies can still refuse to write a policy that excludes these products and services.
The Missouri Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a drive to help The Vitae Caring Foundation. We are looking for Old Cell Phones and Old Digital Cameras. The Vitae can turn them in and use the funds to further our mission of encouraging a culture of life through mass communication. If you can collect any of these items, please call Ed Spence, 837-9038 I will be happy to come by and pickup the items. This will be going on for the balance of our fraternal year which is July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.

Alyssa Cook
On June 11, during the week of Project Life I started a journey that would change my life for the bet-ter. All week I worked with a group of amazing and beautiful adults with mental and physical handi-caps. I got to know these people who were so loving and carefree. They were so innocent and the way they were a family was amazing. I was working at Worth Industries which in itself was a factory floor where these sons and daughters of God could work in a safe and secure environment, where they could feel important and needed by others. I loved it all.

From Father Mike - On a Personal Note
Parish Vision & My Vision as a Pastor
Since our founding as a parish in 2005 I have valued and continue to explore Friendship in Christ as a way of knowing who we are and why we are here as a parish. I see this in our parish whenever I experience us enjoying each others’ company, striving to bring the best out of each other, and sharing a commitment to a common good outside of ourselves. Whenever these activities are clearly characterized by gospel values, service, public worship, and community, then Christ is present among us for our good and the good of others.
So as pastor I promise to use my knowledge of leadership and understanding of organization to encourage and empower parish leaders to establish a strong, lasting Catholic presence in
Northeast Saint Louis County. We can do that by cultivating mission-related partnerships with other groups that will keep a vibrant parish at this location for the next fifty years. Let’s pray for each other to have the wisdom, patience, and courage for the work this vision will require of us.
Preparing for the Selection of a New Parish Pastoral Council
This past February I began meeting with a small group of parishioners with the hope of sponsoring the development of a new Parish Pastoral Council. This Council will be an essential leadership group to ensure a continuing
Catholic presence in the communities we serve and in our commitment to the long term viability of our parish. At present we are talking about the role or purpose of the Council in our parish and its responsibilities. It is my hope that these will be finalized by the end of the summer. We’ve also been discussing the expertise and
experience we think we need for this Council to be an effective leadership group in the communities we are here to serve.
Please share your ideas with any member of the Core Team working on this project. Your insights are important for us to know.
“God has gathered together
as one all those who believe in Jesus and
look on him as the
author of salvation and
the source of unity
and peace.
God has established them as the Church so that
for each and all, the Church may be the
visible sign
of that saving unity.”
Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium, 2nd Vatican Council
Lay Advisory Councils in the Catholic Church
Lay advisory councils are required or recommended by the Church for all parishes of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. All Catholic pastors are strongly encouraged to use such councils as effective means of consultation with the laity and of participation of
God’s people in decision making that affects their well-being.
Laity have the right and the responsibility to participate in the governance of the Church by means of lay advisory councils.
General Timeline for This Project Sponsoring a New Council
We are in the Preparation phase of this project now and hope to have selected candidates for membership by early this fall. Once the members have been chosen we will Convene the Council in late fall, providing them with the Formation and Support they need to organize themselves and their work of leadership in our parish.
