2015 Tasman Bay Snapper Classic Charity of choice

This year we are proud to be supporting Big Brothers and Big Sisters and all proceeds from the fish auction will go to this charity that provides mentoring friendships to children in need of additional adult support. We request fishing competition entrants to donate your fish after the weigh in to our auction to help us raise money for this excellent cause. We also ask if businesses could donate 1 item towards the auction as well it would be appreciated. Get behind a fantastic local charity.

(3)

Entry fee is low at only $200 a team of 4 people which also will get you 4 meals and 4 drinks (1 each per entered team member, pig on a spit Speights Ale House Style) at the social event at The Speights Ale House Nelson, 99 Quarantine Road next to WOW from 3pm Saturday 7th March while you are

watching the weigh in and charity fish auction.

The weigh in will be at The Speights Ale House between the hours of 1500 and 1700 (3pm and 5pm for you city folk). If you’re late, your too late, no exceptions unless you have a 40 oz of Mount Gay Rum in the fish bin then we will consider it. (2 glasses and fresh ice will help with the decision) Prize giving will be held at 1900hrs (7pm trend setters) at The Speights Ale House Nelson. Please have a shower and pick all the scales off before arriving. (Onesies should be removed by now!! Or maybe not we will leave that up to you ) The Ale house rocks all night so come prepared for a wicked evening with a fantastic band, awesome atmosphere and great staff.

The Speights Ale House Nelson will be open for drinks from 10am on the day to give you plenty of time to stake your claim to a good viewing spot for the weigh in and fish auction. Meals will be available throughout the day and we encourage you to eat and drink responsibly. There is a courtesy van available to get you from Richmond to Atawhai so no excuses to drive!!

In the event of poor weather as there are a few of you that are too soft to fish if the winds over 5 knots Sunday the 8th March will be the replacement day.

This event could not be run without the generous sponsors that support it and also the hard working committee behind the scenes. Please make sure you support the sponsors as we would luv to have them back next year. We also would like to encourage them to put teams in to get your stuff back. 

FISHINGETTIQUTTE

Tasman Bay is a huge bay so anchoring within 100 meters of another boat will be treated as an act of terrorism. Give your fellow competitors plenty of space!!

Anchoring in someone else’s burley trial, going 30 knots past another boat or kayak is also something we wish to avoid.

Using 1 rod with 25 hooks on it is not in the spirit of the competition

If trolling for Kingfish along the Boulder Bank give the boat closest to the Boulder Bank enough room to move. Remember deep diving lures will go to 9 meters so if you are in 8 meters and there is a boat on the inside of you then it’s reasonable to assume you are about to get abused.

Please keep the public ramp as clear as possible when launching and retrieving your boat. Un-tie all ropes and shackles, insert bungs and get ready to launch before pulling up to the ramp. If it’s dark put your lights on PARK when backing down ramp so you don’t blind the next person backing down. Please remove all fish and waste from The Speights Ale House at completion of the night.

Q&A

1) Q: You said that fishing starts at 5am on Saturday the 7th of March, can I leave earlier to get to my fishing ground.

A: Yes you can travel to your fishing destination before 5am but fishing for the competition only starts after 5am. Having 4 sets of burley bombs working before 5am may be a slight stretch of the rules but as long as there are no rods in the water it will be legal. 

2) Q: Can there be more than 4 people on a boat?

A: Yes there can be more or less people as we have kayaks to big motor launches entering the competition.

3) Q: Can more or less than 4 people put in a team for the Champions Cup

A: It’s a team’s competition designed for teams of 4 people maximum. If you enter 3 people then you can enter 4 fish but will still have to pay $200 entry fee, same price you would have paid if you had a full team of 4 adults.

4) Q: To compete for the Tasman Bay Snapper Classic Cup do all 4 people have to be on the same boat.

A: All boats except for kayaks and jetskis must have a minimum of 2 people on board for safety reasons. For kayaks and jetskis you must have two craft close together at all times for safety. The team members can be on 4 different boats if that is what they wish to do we just ask fishermen stick together in a minimum groups of 2 for safety reasons.

5) Q: Can Kayaks with engines enter the competition?

A: Yes almost any mode of water transport can enter as long as the smaller craft in a team of 4 stick together for safety reasons.

6) Q: For the team cup event do the 4 snapper have to be 1 from each individual?

A: No – Any combination of 4 fish those 4 people have caught can be entered to get your maximum combined weight from 4 fish. (eg if only 2 people catch 6 fish the heaviest 4 fish can be entered)

(9)

A: You can only weigh in 1 snapper per person for the individual largest snapper prizes but you can weigh in up to 4 snapper for the combined Business Cup Challenge.

10) Q: Can I win more than one prize?

A: Yes you can win one of the snapper weight prizes, the average snapper weight prize or any of the other species weight prizes.

11) Q: Why can I not see a junior’s competition this year?

A: As the competition has not been supported well in the children section and also the competition is designed around businesses we have decided that there will be no children section from now on. Children are however permitted to enter the open section but discretion should be used if you were to take them to the weigh in and social afterwards as alcohol and fishermen full of outrageous stories may have them believe 50lb snapper do exist in Tasman Bay!!

12) Q: I know the area of the competition is inside a line from Separation Point to Greville Harbour and also south of French Pass but can I launch my boat from Motueka or Okiwi Bay or do I have to launch from Nelson?

A: All boats apart from kayaks must leave from Port Nelson on the day of the competition to go to the fishing grounds. You must weigh your fish in at the Speights Ale House between 1500hrs (3pm) and 1700hrs (5pm) Saturday 7th March.

13) Q: I know I am not allowed to use a setline or set net in the competition but is it ok to keep them on board my boat just not use them?

A: No you may not have any long lines or set nets on board your boat during the competition. This is to rule out accusations of cheating, this also includes rigs setup on a hand line or rod with 25 hooks!! 14) Q: Do I have to be present at prize giving to claim my prize?

A: You must attend the prize giving to claim your prize. Another team member cannot claim it for you. If you are not present your prize will go back into the prize pool and be awarded to the next heaviest fish. For the Champions Cup ALL team members must be present or the next heaviest combination will take the cup.

15) Q: If our team wins the Champions Cup do we get to keep it.

A: You get to keep it for a year then it goes back up for grabs in next year’s competition. It will have the winner’s business name engraved on it.

(10)

2015 TASMAN BAY SNAPPER CLASSIC – 7TH MARCH – SPEIGHTS ALE HOUSE NELSON 16) Q: Will there be food available at the weigh in

A: Yes your team entry gets each team member a meal and a drink provided by The Speight Ale house (pig on a spit). There will also be a band afterwards and additional food can be purchased if required.

Q: Can I bring someone else to the weigh-in and can they get a meal as well and drinks.

A: Extra meals must be ordered when you submit your entry. These will be $25 each (including a drink) otherwise there will be the normal excellent menu available inside the Speights Ale house restaurant with full bar facilities.

17) Q: Is there enough parking at the Speight Ale house to bring my boat into the weigh in and can I leave it there over night?

A: Yes there is a huge amount of parking at The Speights Ale house and yes you can leave it there overnight but at your own risk as there will not be any security patrols provided by the organiser or The Speights Ale House.

18) Q: When do entries close for the competition and will accept late entries?

A: Entries close at 10pm Thursday 5th March to allow enough time for all payments to show in

our bank account. If you have not paid by then you will not be eligible to enter. Late entries will be at the discretion of the organiser.
