Trend
Observer is a network
monitor and protocol analyser for
Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI and
asynch PPP. Using RMON other
network technologies such as
WAN & ATM can also be both
monitored and analysed.
Trend
Observer provides
metrics, capture/decode and
trending for both shared and
switched network environments.
With its included Probe running
on a PC on a remote segment
of any LAN, or VLAN,
Trend
Observer can monitor not
only the local segment/switch,
but the remote segment as well.
Trend
Observer offers both
real-time monitoring and
troubleshooting, as well as a
complete trending and baselining
collection system to view
historical data collected for days,
weeks, months or even years.
Trend
Observer provides a
complete management solution
for even the most complex
LAN/WAN environments.
With
Trend
Observer, you’ll know what’s
happening on your network
Decodes all primary protocols
and subprotocols (over 400
protocols decoded). On-line
filtering available for up to any
combination of 20 MAC
addresses, IP addresses,
protocols and data offsets.
Inclusive, exclusive, address
range, error, library of protocol
presets and offsets, custom

While
Trend
Observer monitors
network traffic, SNMP (Simple

is the standard for monitoring
specific network devices.
With
Trend
Observer, the
benefits of protocol/traffic
analysis and full SNMP device
management no longer need to
be two separate activities.
Trend
Observer offers complete
SNMP device management,
supporting multiple views of
SNMP device data, and both
readable and writeable SNMP
objects through
Trend
Observer
or a web browser.
Expert Summary Problem
Analysis
– Shows error events in
a single, concise display.
TCP/UDP/ICMP Experts
–
Shows protocol-based
and application-based problems
in real-time.
Time Interval Analysis
– Shows
network errors organized by time
periods to identify whether a
problem is sporadic or consistent
throughout the day.
Connection Dynamics
–
Packet-to-packet delay times are
shown visually, allowing instant
identification of long latency and
response times.
Server Analysis
– Displays a
server's response times
charted against the number of
simultaneous requests asked
of that server.
“What If” Modelling Analysis
–
This allows prediction of network
bandwidth and response-time
impact for topology changes
(e.g. 10MB to 100MB) and/or
changes on hardware and
usage. This “live-modelling” lets
you asses the impact of possible
network or application changes.
RMON Probe Device
Management and Data
Collection
RMON has become the industry
standard for traffic management
and packet level data collection
for multi-segment LAN/WANs.
The RMON console in the Suite
monitors and controls any
RMON-standard device (router,
switch, server, or hardware
probe) or program anywhere
on the network. The RMON
included is fully compliant with
all RMON1 and RMON2
specifications, and fully supports
all 19 RMON groups. Using
Trend
Observer with a remote
RMON probe has the same
features as for a local Observer.

Who is using the Internet?
Why are host sessions “hanging”?
Why has access to the company’s main database become so slow?
Will moving to Gigabit increase my network response time?
How can I isolate intermittent problems?
How to view utilization and errors on a multi-interface router uplink?
How to verify performance and check compliance on your VoIP
network?
When will the added VoIP traffic critically impact the quality of network
communication?
How web extension can allow remote analysis of traffic without allowing
insecure decode capability?
Can I save sending an engineer out by using the remote diagnosis?
Secure access to Observer

Web Reporting
Web reporting can be both
password protected and content
defined, access to network
trending information is
completely controlled by the
local administrator.
Access to decodes can be
restricted for security.
