1.2. EXECUTIVE PROFILE.
Iglesis Prat Arquitectos is a professional studio, established in 1978 by Jorge Iglesis Guillard and Leopoldo Prat Vargas, architects and professors of the Faculty of Architecture and City Planning of Universidad de Chile.
During years of professional work, many large – scale projects stand out, most of them obtained through national open competitions. Among them are Municipalities, Corporate Buildings, Airport Terminals and Subway Stations, whose strong architectural features stand out.
Today the studio is formed by a stable group of 15 architects, number that changes according to the needs of a particular project.
As an average, 20 to 30 projects are developed each year, and one third of them are built. The total built area is more than 1.000.000 square meters whereas the design areas greatly exceed this quantity.
In the field of urban design Iglesis Prat Arquitectos has participated in many of the most important projects of the country during the past 10 years, proposing Objective – Image studies, urban plans for mining, port and railway areas, as well as urban renewal projects in different cities of Chile.
In 25 years of history the studio has developed a particular style. Its design proposals are based on an adequate relationship to the geographic, social and cultural environment, allowing the project to adopt and reflex these conditions; the search for a strong morphologic language, rigorous, simple and abstract that relates to the surroundings and satisfies the functional requirements of each case.
The architectural design process is possible thanks to a work methodology that is in constant and dynamic relation with the architectural teaching process. The permanent university bond allows for a critical and updated opinion of the architectural atmosphere and also promotes the participation of young professionals in projects and competitions. All the solutions are analyzed in group sessions where the senior partners, the team leaders and the young architects enrich the discussion with their particular points of view.
