How do I interact with Morningstar Office Cloud? Within Morningstar Office Cloud, start by selecting a list, screen, client, account, model
and more. Once selected, build and save data sets and analytical views to complete research and analysis tasks. Your analysis consists of the following:
g Data Sets - sets of data points used to analyze content within a grid. Select from Morningstar standard data sets or create your own custom data sets. In addition, you also have the option to apply peer analytics to your grid.
g Analytical View - a series of tabs which contain charts, tables and research tools. customize each tab to add or delete charts, tables or research using the edit panel.
Use these icons to discard, add, locate or export investments. You can also add to or save using the Action icon.
Create a custom tab by clicking here and adding your own set of charts, graphs and research tools. Select a list or a
screen here.
Select a pre-built analytical view here, or create and save a custom analytical view.
Click hear to access a library of charts, tables and research tools. Conduct deeper analysis for securities
using the charts tables and research tools within these tabs.

Navigating your way around Morningstar Office Cloud
Overview Morningstar Office Cloud connects all aspects of your practice to help streamline the
way you want to work. In fact, you can move around the program using a single menu and tool bar. This section describes how to navigate the different areas of the platform.
How do I navigate from the Home page? After logging in, the Home page provides easy access to clients and accounts, lists and
screens, and practice information. From here, access the header and Menu.
The header contains a series of icons which you can use to search for reports, research and clients, view notifications, create a variety of tools using the Create icon, and access user profile and global settings.
The Menu takes you to the different areas of the program, and provides access to other Morningstar Office Cloud tools, such as import and alerts.
Use this menu to find the content you create.

Exercise 2: Create a list and see related Morningstar Research When reading an article or paper, you may find you want to conduct deeper analysis of
an investment or list of investments mentioned in the article. You can easily create and save a list of investments while you are reading.
To create a list from an article, and then view other articles that relate to the investments contained in the list, do the following:
1. From the Menu, select Morningstar Research. The Featured page launches.
2. From the left panel, click Latest page.
3. Click on any article of interest that contains holdings.

4. In the Mentioned Securities area, click the Action icon.
5. From the Actions menu, click Save As New List. The Save As New List dialog

Exercise 3: Create Morningstar Manager Research Alert Another way to stay current on research that relate to investments, is by creating a
Manager Research alert. Manager Research alerts can be triggered for an individual security or list of securities.
In this exercise, trigger a Morningstar Manager Research alert for the New Ideas list. Do the following:
1. From My Research, click Alerts. The Morningstar Manager Research Alerts page opens.
2. Click Manage Alerts. The Edit Alerts: Morningstar Manager Research box opens.
3. In the Search to add a List, Equity, ETF, Managed Product or Fund field, type New Ideas.
Then select the New Ideas list from the options listed.
Select there optional.
Type the list name here.

4. Click Save. Then select your preferred notification level.
When you trigger the Morningstar Manager Research alert for a list or single security, you will be notified when new research is released through the Notifications icon on the top of your screen. In addition, you can choose to be notified by email for triggered alerts.

Where do I create and manage other alerts? The Morningstar Manager Research alert is just one type of alert you can trigger for
investments and lists. Other alerts are created and managed within Workspace > Alerts, under the Home page.
The Alerts page contains a list of triggered alerts (these are the same alert triggers you find within the Notification icon). Filter to narrow down specific alerts or securities.

Morningstar Office Cloud is an integrated platform. Meaning, the work you do in one area of the program, is easily surfaced in other areas of the program.
For example, in the previous exercise, you created a list of investments in the Morningstar Research area. In the next exercise, open the same list in grid. From the grid, launch the analytical view, to find a mix of charts, tables and research tools, allowing for deeper analysis of the investments that comprise your list.
Exercise 4: Open a list within a Grid Now, open the New Ideas list inside a grid. From there, launch the analytical view.
Do the following:
1. From the Home page, in the Lists & Screens widget, click New Ideas. The New Ideas
list opens in a grid.
2. On the Grid header, click on the name of the first investment in your list. The Analytical
View panel opens.
3. Select the Analyst Research tab.

each tab. For example, you may want to consolidate your research activities by adding third-party news sources to your analyst research tab.
In this exercise, add the News research tool to the Analyst Research tab. Do the following.
1. On the header, click the Edit icon. The Edit panel opens.
2. In the Search for Charts, Tables and Research field, type News.
3. Drag and drop News into the tab.
4. Click Done.

tab to be more inclusive of the content found within it. Do the following:
1. On the Analyst Research tab, click the Action drop-down menu.
2. From the Edit Tab menu, select Rename.
3. In the text field, type Research and News.
4. Click Save.

Exercise 7: Save an Analytical View You may have noticed that the name of your analytical view changed from Managed
Investments to Untitled -- Edited. That occurs when you make a change to an analytical view template, and is prompting you to save it as a custom analytical view.
Do the following:
1. On the Analytical View header, click the Action drop-down menu.
2. From the Analytical View Actions menu, select Save As.
3. In the Enter a new Analytical View name field, type Managed Investments New.
4. Click Save.

Overview Within Morningstar Office Cloud, data is displayed within grids, tabs, charts, tables.
This includes, list, screens, clients, accounts, fees and more. How your content is displayed differs, depending on the task you are trying to achieve.
In this section, you will learn how to do the following: g Create a screen,
g Create a custom data set
g Analyze Investments using a Data Set, and g Analyze Investments using an Analytical View.
Exercise 8: Create a screen
Earlier, you created a list of investments. This list is static, meaning the same investments will populate each time you open it.
A screen is also a list, however it is based on a set of criteria. A screen is dynamic, meaning the investments that populate the list have the potential to change, each time you open it.
In this exercise, create a screen including large international funds with a strong performance history and positive outlook.
Do the following:
1. On the header, click the Create icon, then select Screen. The Screener box opens.
2. From the Investment Type box, select Open-End Fund.

4. From the Add Criteria box, in the Search box, type Morningstar Category, then select Morningstar Category.

7. Select Foreign Large Growth, Foreign Large Value and Foreign Large Blend.
8. Click OK.

17. Select the slider next to Allow Missing Value. Notice how this expands your
search results.
18. Deselect the slider next to Allow Missing Value.
19. Click OK.
20. From the Add Criteria box, type oldest in the Search box, then select Oldest Share Class From the Operator area, click Include.
21. From Value, select Yes.
22. Click OK.
23. Click Done. Your list will appear within a Grid.

1. On the header, click the Untitled List—Edited drop-down menu, then click Save. A
dialog box opens.
2. In the Enter a New Screen name field, type High Rated Large International Funds.
3. Click Save. Your screen will be saved for future use.

Exercise 10: Analyze Investments using a data set
Investments from your screen populate a grid. Use the grid to analyze and compare investments using data points, which are displayed in data sets.
Morningstar has created a series of data sets to view or edit. Or, you can create a custom data set with your own mix of data points.
In this exercise, create a custom data set. then use the data points to analyze investments from your screen.
Do the following:
1. On the Grid header, click the Data Set drop-down menu. Then select Create New Data Set. The Data Set Management window opens.

investments with the highest return.
7. Double click on the Standard Deviation Total (3Y - mo end) Cat Current column.
Answer the following three questions:
g Which of these five investments has the greatest return with the least amount of risk?
Uncheck the four other investments.
g For the selected investment, what is its 3-year, 5-year, and 10-year Morningstar Rating?
g What is the Morningstar Category for the selected fund? Leave the investment selected.

analytical view contains charts and tables. Each chart and table contains settings, which allow you to manipulate the data you see on your screen.
In the previous exercise, you identified the Morningstar Category of the selected fund. In this exercise, select a fund within the same Morningstar Category and validate the Morningstar Style using the analytical view.
Do the following:
1. Click on the selected investment. The Analytical View panel opens.
2. From the Analytical View panel, select the Style tab.

Exercise 12: Change chart settings In the previous exercise, you identified the Morningstar Style of the selected security
as of the most recent Portfolio date. However, the style may have been different five years ago. In this exercise, use the Style Box - Equity Holding Style Trail to determine if the style has remained consistent over the last five years.
Do the following:
1. In the top-right corner of the Style Box - Equity Holding Style Trail chart, click the
Component Settings icon.

Overview Morningstar Office Cloud provides a variety of tools to help manage your client and
account data. Similar to investment analysis, client and account data is also displayed within grids, tabs, charts, tables.
Meet your prospect, Chris and Nicole Haba. They’re a newly married couple who love to travel. They have family internationally and want their portfolio to reflect their diverse interests. This is each of their second marriages and Nicole has an adult child from her first marriage.

During the prospecting phase, enter a prospect and their account positions to take advantage of the tools Morningstar Office Cloud has to offer. Prospects and prospect accounts are housed separately from clients and do not figure into your practice AUM. Do the following:
1. In the header, click the Create icon, then select Prospect. The Create Prospect
window opens.
2. In the Prospect Name field, enter Haba Family.
3. In the First Name field, enter Chris.
4. In the Last Name field, enter Haba.
5. Click Create.

you manage your prospect record.

1. Hover the cursor over the Haba Family row. The Action icon appears.
2. From the Action drop-down menu, click Member > Create Member. The Create
Member window opens.

In this exercise, create a quick account for the Habas. Do the following:
1. Hover the cursor over the Haba Family row. The Action menu icon appears.

Current Account.
3. From the Account Category drop-down menu, select Individual Taxable.
4. From the Account Type drop-down menu, select Taxable.
5. Click the Add Holdings button. The Add Holding menu opens.
6. In the Type to Search field, enter DODIX.
7. From the Morningstar Securities menu, select Dodge and Cox Income.
8. Click the Add Holdings button. The Add Holding menu opens.
9. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the following tickers:
Enter the required fields.

Note: You can also enter values by amount or number of shares held.
11. Click Calculate.

Exercise 18: Open the Analytical View Once created, the Habas current account appears within the grid. To take a look at
where the Habas stand today, click on Current Account to launch the Analytical View. Similar to analyzing investments, the Analytical View contains a series of tabs, which contain charts, tables and research.
Using the same skills you acquired when analyzing investments, take a look at the charts and tables to answer the following questions about the new account.

Exercise 19: Create a model portfolio Model portfolio construction is similar to account construction. Both tools contain
holdings and weighting. The difference being that accounts are based off an existing statements and are assigned to a single owner. Models are considered an investment strategy and can have multiple owners.
Be sure to select the preferred holdings to include before creating a model portfolio. Either create or import an investment list containing your preferred investments, or select each investment individually.
Do the following:
1. On the header, click the Create icon, then select Model Portfolio. The Create a Model
Portfolio box opens.
2. In the Model Portfolio Name field, type Recommended Investments. Then click Next.
The Creating: Recommended Investments box opens.
3. Click the Add Holdings button. The Add Holdings menu opens.
4. Select From Investment List. The Investment List menu opens.

1. From the Menu, select Workspace > Models. The Model Portfolio window opens.
2. Click on Recommended Investments. The Select a workbook to view the

3. Click Model Portfolio. The Model Portfolio workbook opens.

Overview The grid and Analytical View provide you with the tools to analyze investments,
accounts and models, allowing you to make the right choices to meet your clients goals. Morningstar Office Cloud also provides a variety of reports and other tools to help you communicate with your clients effectively.

What are the different reporting levels in Morningstar Office Cloud? There are four different reporting levels in Morningstar Office Cloud. Each reporting
level offers the capability to drill down to more detailed information about your practice, clients, accounts or securities. The following table describes each level.

Practice The broadest reporting level for your practice, it provides
information cross all clients.
Client Provides information on accounts at the client level. That
is, a client’s accounts are aggregated, to see overall client performance.
Account Provides information on a single account, such as

Reporting in Morningstar Office Cloud What is the difference between analytical and performance reports? What is the difference between analytical and performance reports? Choosing to run a performance report or an analytical report depends on the type of
account the report is for.
Performance reports are run at either the client or account level, and provide details about how your clients’ portfolios performed over a given time period. Performance reports require the use of transactional accounts, as transaction history is needed for the time period you are reporting on.
Note: Transactional accounts are imported from your custodian.
Analytical reports can be run with either a transactional account or a quick account you created based on a client’s or a prospect’s current statement. These accounts show information about the account positions only, and therefore do not require a transactional history to run.
Note: Client accounts are entered manually.
What standard reports are available in Morningstar Office Cloud? The standard reports available at varying reporting levels can be run at the individual
account level prior to a review, or in a batch as part of your quarterly review package. The following table describes Morningstar Office Cloud reports:

Assets under Management Practice Transactional All open account under management with
market values as of the report date. This includes broad asset class.
Note: Investments marked as unmanaged assets are excluded from this report.
Practice Performance Summary Practice Transactional Performance returns for all active clients &
accounts that are both managed and unmanaged. Performance calculations include time-weighted returns, net of fees. The report also includes additional data points that impact performance.
Practice Unrealized Gain Loss Practice Transactional Account positions and their gain/loss by
percentage for all managed and unmanaged accounts. This report also includes account market values, share quantities, and unit

Presentation Studio? Presentation Studio is the Morningstar tool for creating custom reports. With flexible
charting and reporting capabilities, and access to Morningstar databases, Presentation Studio helps you mix and match components to create compelling client reports. You have control over both the content and format of your presentations, enabling you to use charts, tables, images, and text to tell your story.
Reporting in Morningstar Office Cloud How do I gain access to presentation studio? How do I gain access to presentation studio? Presentation Studio is a standalone tool that you download directly from Morningstar
Office Cloud. Once downloaded, launch the icon and login using your Morningstar Office Cloud user name and password.
How do I start using presentation studio? After logging in, you arrive at the Presentation Studio landing page. Here, you find a
series of tabs, menus and tools, to help you get started. The table below describes each tool on the landing page.

You can also select colors and display markers for each source of data.
Tool Definition
Portfolio The Portfolio tile opens Presentation Studio. Once you click on it, you can choose an existing template, or to build a template from scratch.
Morningstar Template A Morningstar template is created by Morningstar experts to serve as the basis for a specific type of report.
My Template A template is a Presentation Studio document created to serve as the basis for a specific type of report. A template typically contains text, charts, tables, and images selected to present information in service of the template’s purpose.
Templates are published to one or multiple logins and are content updates to reflect the client and account data selected.
My Report A report is a document reflecting information for a specific client. Save as a report when you create your report for specific client and manage your report directly from Presentation Studio. You cannot publish a report to Morningstar Office Cloud.
Action Menu Use this menu to delete, save, move, send and share templates
with other members of your firm.
