Thank you for your generosity. We are extremely grateful.

Thank You Liturgical Ministers

Thank you to the commitment of Mass Coordinators, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, and Wor-ship Environment in helping for Christmas. A special thank you to Greeter/Ushers, new and old, who helped make Christmas run smoothly. It was a special celebra-tion and we appreciate the special way you radiated God’s love.

Were You or Your Baby Baptized in the Last Year?

Next week we are celebrating the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. We also are celebrating all those who were baptized in 2020 at the 9:30am Sunday Mass with a lit candle around the Baptismal Font. Please join us in per-son or online with these families as we recognize the outpouring of God’s love through their child’s baptism.

Monthly Food Market Collection

This weekend is our monthly food market collection. Food insecurity is the worst since the Great Depression. Your gen-erosity makes a difference to those who are hungry. Thank you. 303 pounds of food were delivered to Francis Basket Food Market in Sibley Manor in December.

Today’s Readings - Promise Fulfilled

Isaiah reminds the people of God that the land shall be restored to their possession, they shall rejoice to see their people return from the bondage of exile, and they shall be a light to the nations. In other words, through the peo-ple of Israel, the Savior shall come to all peopeo-ple who seek God with a sincere heart. This brings joy and the radiance of God’s glory to all the world and to all people everywhere. Through the fidelity of the people of God, and through God’s fidelity to them, all people shall be-come God’s children and rejoice in the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel. Copyright © J. S. Understanding the Mass - The Liturgy of Emmanuel Procession and Song

The assembly has gathered from near and far, on foot, by bus, by car, by subway, singly and by twos and threes: single people, couples, families. Now that movement is ritualized and made visible in the liturgy’s entrance pro-cession.

We are not alone on this journey; Christ is with us. The procession is led by the cross, with the image of Christ upon it. Candles, signs of a living presence, are carried around the cross. Candles also accompany the Book of the Gospels, another sign of Emmanuel, God-with-us. The priest presider is likewise a sign of Christ’s presence in our assembly; he will act in persona Christi, in the person of Christ, who presides at every Eucharist. As the procession begins, we stand and sing together in our first act as a community. The joining of our voices begins to turn many into one. The songs we sing range from ancient chants to contemporary hymns, but they have the same purpose, to foster our unity and turn our thoughts to the mysteries we gather to celebrate. We may feel that we can’t sing well, but “Christ always invites us to enter into song, to rise above our own preoccupations, and to give our entire selves to the hymn of his Paschal

Sacrifice” (USCCB, Sing to the Lord, 14).

Adult Faith Formation Opportunity The Spiritual Resilience Project

FREE, Self-directed,

Online Adult Faith Formation Opportunity Offered Through Heart Matters

Spiritual resilience rests on a foundation of positive spir-itual emotions that help us thrive and give us energy to reach out and help others. How do we find the hope, strength and stamina we need to rise to the call? How do we stay resilient? The Spiritual Resilience Project pro-vides faith-based, research-informed tools to help culti-vate positive spiritual emotions and process painful ones. These include a blend of centuries-old Christian practic-es with current scientific rpractic-esearch on emotional rpractic-esili- resili-ence. These spiritual habits help us engage the world with compassion, courage and hope.

Time for Transformation Adult Faith Formation Opportunity Wednesdays, 6:00-7:00pm, January 13, February 10, March 10, April 14, May 12

The Faith Formation Council is providing an opportunity to grow in our relationship with

Jesus. We will work through the book Under the

Influence of Jesus: The Transforming Experience of Encountering Christ. Many Catholics feel that they know about Jesus but do not feel they know him person-ally. The bridge between where we are and where we want to be in our faith journey can be achieved through the engaging study and discussion of spiritual concepts in award-winning author Joe Paprocki’s book so that “everyday” Catholics can integrate and articulate their faith and live the Gospel in a way that is simple, compel-ling, contemporary, liberating, and life-changing. We will meet via Zoom to discuss our readings and discussion questions. There is no fee and the book will be provided. Email Lynn Schelitzche, Director of Faith Formation, at [email protected].

Year of St. Joseph

The Archdiocese is observing a Year of Saint Joseph from December 8, 2020 – December 8, 2021. The hope is that the Year of Saint Joseph will be a source of re-newal in our local Church, most especially in the contin-uation of preparations for the Synod of 2022.

Heavenly Father, who gave St. Joseph to Jesus and Mary as protector and guide, grant that our Archdiocesan Syn-od, under his protection and guidance, may help us dis-cern your direction for our Church. May we listen as he listened, trust as he trusted, obey as he obeyed, receive as he received, love as he loved, and share in his life of de-votion to Jesus and Mary. Amen. St. Joseph, pray for us.

Mental Health Connect

When you or someone you know is experi-encing mental health concerns, you may have questions.

• What support is available for my family? • What treatment is available, and how do I get it?

• Who can help me (financially, emotionally, physically)? Lumen Christi partners with Mental Health Connect for support to help you find the resources you need. The Mental Health Navigator can help find mental health treatments, resources, support and education. Visit mhconnect.org. Also feel free to contact Eric Fought, Lumen Christi Director of Care, Support and Justice, [email protected] or 651-370-1611.

Welcome to the Lumen Christi Social Justice Committee’s Immigration Action Campaign!

COVID-19 has us stuck at home, and national and civil events can leave us feeling paralyzed. But, we can still make a difference.

Our immigrant community, always marginalized and vulnerable, has been deeply affected by the pandemic and unrest. You can help! Each month, we will present information about a different immigration organization or immigration issue, with links to learn more, and ways to get involved (either virtually or in-person). Our voices and our efforts are still powerful. Contact John at

[email protected] or the parish office with any questions.

“…Let us preach you without preaching,

not by words but by our example, by the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what we do, the evident fullness of the love our hearts bear to you.”

– Cardinal John Henry Newman Interfaith Coalition on Immigration Minnesota (ICOM)

ICOM “engages spiritual, multicultural action in solidar-ity with immigrants and refugees to achieve justice and stand up to systems of oppression.”

Some of their key initiatives include the following:

• They hold vigils at the Whipple Federal Building at

Fort Snelling on Tuesday mornings to support immi-grants facing deportation and stand in opposition to ICE (U.S. Immigrant and Customs Enforcement) practices that dehumanize and terrorize. Vigils are also held at key locations (such as the Sherburne County Jail) as issues arise.

• ICOM AID (Accompanying Immigrants in Detention)

is a branch of ICOM that allows volunteers to directly support immigrant detainees and their families in the Twin Cities.

• ICOM also advocates for systemic change to policy

structures to better protect human and civil rights of immigrants.

Thanks for Reaching Out

In this crazy time of Covid, many of us have been chal-lenged by many changes, maybe working from home, not being able to see parents, kids or grandkids. We are all feeling the pressures of being locked down, shut in and lonely. Yet in spite of all of these challenges there are people reaching out, helping others and doing what they can to make someone’s day a bit brighter.

The Care Support and Justice Ministry Council has been working to try to keep our parishioners living in senior centers, nursing homes and home alone, connected to the parish. Our new ministry council member, Nonie Osendorf, has a connection to Martha, from Martha’s Gardens floral shop. During November Martha made five bouquets each week for the CSJ team to deliver to these parishioners. We have heard only wonderful

responses from these lucky parishioners. We wanted to

thank Martha for being a light during these trying months. She shared this level of generosity despite her own business challenges. We are so grateful to have been stewards of this show of generosity and thought-fulness.

Urban Academy Thanks You

We cannot express enough our appreciation to the family of Lumen Christi for your kindness in giving gifts to our students at Urban Academy for the holidays. We are so grateful for our relationship and partnership. This year, unlike the past years, has been extremely difficult for families as Covid 19 has hurt us all socially, physically, and financially. Urban Academy gave out over 400 toys to all of our students. Please know of our gratitude for your kindness and support. Happy holidays to everyone and a Happy New Year! —Dr. Mongsher Ly Superintendent/Co-Founder, Urban Academy
