11.40 CLOUD UPDATE: CLOUD - EVOLVING CARRIER ETHERNET NETWORKS AND SERVICES

Globally, carriers continue to be under heavy cost pressure. Traffic in fixed and mobile networks continues to grow exponentially while ARPU for traditional dual-, triple- and quad- play services remains flat or even declines. The current carrier multi protocol network architecture with IPv4, IPv6 and MPLS control, a complex service production process using some features in network elements, some data centre components, integrated under the control of a complex OSS system does not meet future scalability and cost requirements. The move to software defined service delivery, using a network centric cloud model will drastically lower capex and opex and will allow carriers to monetarize the value of the intelligent Ethernet network platform.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION MASTERCLASS

T

he demand for increased bandwidth across access, metro, core, and global networks coupled with the need to support differentiated quality of service is driving carriers and service providers to migrate to Carrier Ethernet as their choice

of service delivery platform. To maximise the benefit you will gain from the conference, delegates should attend this 1 day Carrier Ethernet Services Masterclass, particularly if you have less experience of Carrier Ethernet and MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) standards. Understanding MEF Services and Certification will provide an essential understanding of Carrier Ethernet, its service constructs and applications, MEF specifications, and the requirements and benefits of MEF Certification.

You will gain crucial knowledge in these areas:

Service attributes of Carrier Ethernet – what makes it “Carrier Class”?

Role of the MEF in Carrier Ethernet service definition, specification and certification Service Types: E-Line, E-LAN, E-Tree

Carrier Ethernet service applications and implementation Service attributes and parameters

MEF Certification: vendor, service provider and professional certification Carrier Ethernet transport and access technologies

Carrier Ethernet Service OAM: enabling carrier class OAM functions

As an enterprise end user of Carrier Ethernet it was

great to attend the event and share my needs and wants

from Carrier Ethernet for our business processes”

AFTERNOON WORKSHOP - 14.00-17.00

BROADBAND FORUM WORKSHOP -

ENHANCING IP/MPLS BASED CARRIER SERVICES TO ADDRESS DATA CENTER INTERCONNECTION (DCI)

IP/MPLS technologies are widespread in global networks today, used primarily to deploy residential, business, wholesale and mobile services. There is a desire to enhance IP/MPLS based Carrier Services to allow Service Providers to connect and interconnect more broadly and efficiently. Multi-tenancy is another factor that will have its effect on scaling characteristics of the solution. This tutorial describes these requirements, motivation and options for using IP/MPLS technologies as a Data Center Interconnect technology.

Agenda will cover:

• Introduction to the Broadband Forum

• Next Generation Data Center Interconnect Use Cases and Requirements • Motivations for using IP/MPLS technologies for Data Center Interconnect • Building Blocks of a Data Center Interconnect Solution

• Use of existing BGP-VPLS and LDP-VPLS technologies for Data Center Interconnect • Use of new BGP/MPLS E-VPN and PBB-EVPN technologies for Data Center Interconnect • Applying E-VPN for Data Center Interconnect
