A guide to Dell Cloud

Dedicated Services

(2)

“Cloud is not a destination or singular path, but a transformation

that places IT squarely at the center of the enterprise as both a leader

and enabler of value creation.”

Michael Dell

(3)

Thousands of enterprises have adapted cloud technology, some with great success and others finding it less desirable than their current infrastructure. The reason is simple: each cloud delivers unique benefits best suited for specific workloads. Meanwhile, enterprises still have physical assets that are not suitable for cloud. At Dell, we recognize the challenges that arise from varying hosting needs.

Dell Cloud Dedicated, combined with cloud attached colocation hosting capabilities and our broad ecosystem of public cloud partners, provides a versatile foundation to accommodate a variety of hosting scenarios.

Dell Cloud Dedicated is designed to serve as an extension of your data center. With familiar VMware® management tools, you can quickly begin using the service without having to learn new interfaces or modify processes.

Common data center tasks, such as OS management and backup and recovery administration, have never been easier. Our services provide managed cloud infrastructure compatible with the IT Infrastructure Library-based operational processes you have in place today.

Our global onboarding team collaborates with your staff to provide an effortless onboarding experience. Your Dell project manager and technical consultant are available to guide and provide technical advice during the duration of the onboarding process.

Once setup is complete, your administrators receive access to a dedicated VMware vCenter console for comprehensive management of your cloud infrastructure and enterprise-class administrative control.

Dell SecureWorks

Dell SecureWorks is one component of Dell Cloud Dedicated. Their IT security services provide protection across the network, safeguarding the perimeter, critical internal assets, data, remote users, customers and partners. Dell SecureWorks provides key controls for regulations including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and ISO 27001/27002.

SecureWorks is constantly improving customers’ security in real time — not in the form of cumbersome patches and software updates. The Dell SecureWorks Counter Threat Unitsm research team is at the cutting edge of threat research and countermeasure development. Aware of the latest developments in the regulatory environment, they are developing new technology to address new threats and drive efficiency.

You supply Dell with hardware that’s fully configured and ready to plug in, and we deliver the power, network infrastructure and rack for your servers. This way, you receive the benefits of a highly secure data center — with a 100 percent uptime guarantee for your power and network.

While you are responsible for your equipment’s performance, you can make changes remotely to your servers as needed. Our services also include 24x7 monitoring of your server and OS.

Our cloud colocation solution facilitates a quick asset-light adoption. You can move your devices to our cloud-hosted colocation zones and cross-connect them into your private and public cloud solutions. Dell can manage these colocation devices — and even provide orchestration solutions — across physical, private and public cloud properties.

Some of our customers find that purchasing their own dedicated, converged infrastructure is more suitable for them. However, they are left with the challenge of choosing a secure, pragmatic way to host facilities and find a partner that can manage these converged solutions on their behalf.

Dell has robust cloud managed service capabilities that allow seamless management of your private cloud infrastructure hosted in Dell colocation facilities. This lets you focus on receiving your desired business outcome from the infrastructure.

With our colocation capabilities and cloud managed services, you can enjoy rapid time-to-capacity by having Dell maintain the capacity management aspects of your private cloud. Dell Cloud Dedicated colocation offers:

• World-class management at the OS layer for physical or virtual environments

• Compliance with regulations, including HIPAA, Health IT for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act and PCI standards

• Return on capital investments by extending the productive life of existing equipment

• Flexibility and scalability, with the ability to adjust space requirements up or down as needed

• Fast, secure connectivity for both physical and virtual environments

Integrated into Dell Cloud Dedicated is Dell Cloud Manager to help you precisely control and orchestrate how services are consumed to balance demand, cost, reliability, security and performance. By optimizing that balance, your cloud infrastructure can remove barriers to business agility. Dell Cloud Manager helps you achieve this by accelerating resource provisioning, supporting application scaling and implementing fine-grained cost assignment to improve the ability to match IT costs to business value. It can also help you realize those benefits without compromising established IT concerns like security and audit trail tracking. Dell Cloud Manager enables you to deploy and manage enterprise-class applications across your private and public clouds.

Dell Cloud Manager provides a suite of tools for managing your cloud infrastructure, including the provisioning, management and automation of

applications across Dell Cloud Dedicated private and public cloud platforms. Dell Cloud Dedicated, with integrated Dell Cloud Manager, provides agility, governance and choice for enterprises. This includes:

• Governance: Maintaining control over

your systems is crucial to reducing risk. Dell Cloud Manager provides tight access controls, including encryption, advanced use authentication and budget management. This enables you to provide the right level of access to only the right people in your cloud environment.

• Access controls: Limit access for internal or external teams to specific resources within one or more clouds with flexible, role-based security.

• Key management and encryption:

Our patent-pending security architecture enforces a separation of roles.

• Financial controls: Track and limit spending by project code, customer or department.

• API integration, logging and auditing: Log and track activity by user through reports or by integrating monitoring and management systems.

With the right governance solution in place, you can limit your risk while reaping the benefits of incorporating cloud computing across your organization.

Agility

Dell Cloud Manager helps you reap the economic and operational advantages of cloud computing through a variety of automation tools such as auto-provisioning, auto-scaling, automated backups, recovery and cross-cloud bursting. This provides consistency across all clouds and enables your organization to improve service levels.

Dell Cloud Manager resolves governance issues such as:

• Auto-provisioning: Define application deployment architectures quickly and intuitively; then let Dell Cloud Manager handle deployment to one or more clouds.

• Auto-scaling: Create scaling policies around the data you wish to measure (such as transaction rates and page load times).

• Automated recovery: Restart failed components of your applications automatically based on policies you set through built-in disaster recovery, allowing you to restore data from your last backup in the event of catastrophic system failure.

• Automated backups: Place snapshots

in supported third-party cloud storage services for increased disaster avoidance.

• Smart cloud topology: Automatically

distribute applications across availability zones, regions or cloud services.

Experience the real value of automating applications independent of the services where they reside by providing flexibility for your operations teams as the cloud marketplace changes and expands.

Choice

With support for all leading public and private clouds, plus access to leading configuration management tools, Dell Cloud Manager offers a unified management solution you can use for a single or multicloud environment. This provides increased efficiency and allows you the freedom to choose the cloud services that work best for your organization.

Dell Cloud Manager provides cloud independence to enable optimal flexibility, including:

• Multicloud support: Provides the cloud orchestration required to get the most from leading public/private cloud platforms.

• Multi-tool support: Supports leading configuration management solutions, including Chef and Puppet, as well as platform-as-a-service solutions, such as Cloud Foundry.

• Risk mitigation: Reduces risk of using a single cloud provider with cloud-independent backups and cross-cloud disaster recovery. It also delivers flexibility as the cloud service provider market matures.

• Business continuity planning: Ensures business continuity with the ability to store backups automatically using one or more major cloud providers.

Dell Cloud Onsite is an on-premises (behind the customer’s firewall) private cloud that is remotely monitored and managed by our Cloud On Demand partner FireHost and paid for through a full operating expense subscription model.

Dell Cloud Onsite powered by FireHost is a pre-architected secure private cloud solution with capacity from 600 to 1,200 cloud servers. It provides insight into everything required for top performance, compliance, security, scalability and agility. Every deployed secure private cloud is connected to the FireHost secure global network providing access to FireHost advanced services, regardless of location.

When it comes to selecting a cloud solution, cost has been eclipsed by other factors — namely, security and data privacy. Organizations are increasingly expecting cloud providers to show capabilities to fully protect information assets in a cloud environment.

Dell Cloud Onsite is perfect for organizations seeking the highest level of compliance and security. While many service providers add security services and capabilities on top of a cloud or hosting solution, FireHost has engineered these capabilities directly into its core platform. FireHost has invested significantly in developing much of its own intellectual property. As a result, it has one of the more consistent global user interfaces, particularly in the area of integrated security features.

For compliance, the emphasis is on focused infrastructure, gap analysis, remediation, audit, ongoing security and compliance monitoring along with incident response and forensics — all managed by security and compliance experts. It’s the frictionless way to mitigate risk and secure critical applications, sensitive information and regulated data.

With Dell Cloud Onsite, you can:

• Mitigate business risk and protect your brand

• Complete regulatory

compliance audits faster

• Reduce overall costs to achieve compliance

• Gain access to security and compliance experts

• Reduce the need for internal expertise

• Utilize a full suite of compliance tools

• Take advantage of guaranteed data sovereignty

Dell Cloud Onsite is available worldwide. Dell Cloud powered by FireHost is available in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia and is hosted in FireHost data centers in Europe and Singapore.
