Beginning of a visionary approach to Enterprise Database Management.
W
ith the Introduction of Unicenter 3.0, Computer Associates is once again redefining the rules of Enterprise Management or, at a higher level, Infrastructure Management. This approach is different from the traditional Unicenter TNG framework technology. The excitement behind the new Unicenter 3.0 is it does not require the framework to be installed for the other enterprise management applications to be plugged. This approach provides greater flexibility for the clients to choose the respective enterprise management modules as and when required, while at the same time providing future cohesive enterprise management capabilities and thus preserving the investment. This modular approach is accomplished using a “Common services” component, which is shipped with the individual products and installed only if required. This provides the capability for the individual enterprise management applications to integrate in a flexible and adaptive manner when needed. This approach reduces footprint and also eliminates the integration complexities.
As always, it has proven successful to take a high level approach in managing the enterprises as a whole, and not drawing lines between networks, servers, operating systems, databases and applications, and managing them in isolation. eBusiness has brought these individual components even closer.

As shown in the above figure each of the above 6 solutions could be deployed as a stand-alone module or integrated together using the Common Services.
To maintain the purpose of this document, the following discussion focuses on Unicenter Database Management Solutions.
As one of the important components of Unicenter 3.0, going forward Unicenter Database Management for Open Systems tools would be shipped with the Common Services software. It would be optional to install the Common Services component during the installation process. This approach provides the capability for future integration with the industry leading, best of bread, Unicenter 3.0 family solutions. This provides the flexibility for the tools to stand-alone or work cohesively when required. One of the major benefits for Enterprise Database Management clients is now they would be able to better monitor the database applications in correlation with the server, operating systems, network including improved job scheduling and event management capabilities.
The Unicenter Database Management for Open Systems (Formerly ManageIT) family comprises of 3 solution suites.
