Haynes sold his land in Unicoi County Ilnf^o.n Meinturff settlement was near what is now icoi vniage, just below Ervdn, the county scat of Unicoi County. The of intact, as they date only from 1875. Christopher went back to winchester to guard prisoners to Philadelphia; from Philadelphia, under cormriand of Lieu. John Rusii, Col, William All's rigiment to Rich/nond Va. , protecting the country in that vicinity, then marched to country near Blue Ridge and was discharged having served out time. Returned to Rockingham County Virginia and again drafted June or July 1781 under Capt. John Ragan as private, went to Riclimond Virginia, served his three months and was discharmod. ^After war moved from Rockingham County Virginia to Uussell County Virginia then to Allen County Kentucky, ,/as born in ./inchester Va. June 8, 1760. The family register was in possession of t;is mother in iiockingh-un and does not know what happened to it. Received his dis¬ charge but they were burned in 1787 in Russell County Va. in his home. Christopher Haynes and family moved to Kentucky in 1810. Tallitha Haines, married Christopher Haines, July 14, 1782, married by Rev. Br. Alexander Kel¬ son Harris, descended from old Virginia stock, was a physician and preach¬ er and was a f=ur.ous orator of his time. Believing ardently in secessi.on, he canvassed East Tennessee in joint debate with Andrew Johnson when the state left the union. He aided in raising several regiments for the Conlederacy and finally became chief surgeon of the 69th, Tennessee Infantry under Colonel John .7, Crawford. Dr. Harris was related to Isham G. Har¬ ris who was Governor of Tennessee and afterward became United States Senator from that state. An old citizen who had often heard Dr. Harris speak, once said of him:^ "He is^the most powerful speaker I ever hoard. He can open his mouth and his words tear up the ground in front of him.". I.. ?;. Edna Haynes Harris, the mother of Georgia's nevz Governor, was a sis¬ ter of Landon C. Haynes, called "the eagle orator of Tennessee" and of nrs. I;at. G. Taylor, wife of a Tennessee Congressman. Two of the latter' sons. Bob and Alf Taylor, were famous Tennessee writers, humorists and lecturers, ^ and ran against each other for Goa'ernor of the state. Govv^rnor Harris is, oherjfor, a first cousin of the Taylor brothers. Landon C. Haynes was one of tho loading lawyers in East Tennessee, repr^^sented liis state as a senator in tlie Cenfederate Congress through¬ out the war. Alexander H. Stephens is reputed to have said of him, that Haynes had mor^ brains than any other man in congress.
