Today’s Challenges on Business Continuity

The high-speed network interactions in all types of business dealings brought with it the challenges on file transfer security and safekeeping of all files. Major characteristics of this growing business fashion include:

• Exploding needs in file storage space

The paperless office has become the norm of today’s business style • Fast processing speed with non-stop file service

Customer satisfaction demands 24/7 flawless computer services • Files must not be lost in any circumstances

Database of personal information or a business proposal are all important business assets

• User self-sufficient on file backup and recovery

Increased productivity when workers can backup and recover files without the help of IT professionals

• Cost-effective

To achieve all above will be the most cost effective

Solutions: Disk-Based Backup

The Disk-Based backup method provides solutions to all challenges anticipated. It is a new way of data protection. The dramatic increase of disk capacity had made it possible. With this method, no tape or additional hardware is required. With software applications like EzOpenBackup Plus!, file backup is automated and self-service. End-user file recovery can be easily done.

EzOpenBackup Plus! can do more than Open File Backup, it can recover accidentally changed files between backups. The innovative creation of Data Recovery Bin keeps all changed files of the source folder before next backup so that lost or damaged files can be replaced by a previous version.

The Technology

The Snapshot structure developed in house is the core technology for EzOpenBackup Plus! software and other products in our IsaStor series of products. It automatically saves files and data at pre-defined intervals or at default file-processing events such as file deleting or closing to generate point-in-time copies of files for backup and data recovery.

This Snapshot Technology is built on Microsoft’s Volume Shadow Copy

technology with advancement that instead of saving the entire volume, only the intended files and data are saved. XLink’s Snapshot Technology supports not only Windows XP and 2003 systems, but also Windows 2000 systems.

The Data Recovery Bin

Incorporating this core technology with its innovative creation of Data Recovery

Bin, EzOpenBackup Plus! created a unique solution to satisfy the need for

data protection and storage especially for small businesses. Because snapshots are taken at each point-in-time and on the transaction level, user roll back to previous versions of a file is easy with accuracy. For this reason,

EzOpenBackup Plus! claims to be the unmatched solution that brings effective server availability and true data protection to users.

Due to its nature of complexity that may require trained professionals to configure and maintain, Snapshot technology has not been widely used in today’s software applications.

The Snapshot technology developed by XLink overcomes these challenges. Applications developed with this new technology, such as EzOpenBackup

Plus!, can be easily installed and configured by non-IT professionals of the small business operators.

EzOpenBackup Plus! Benefits

Continuous Data Protection

In addition to the built-in Open and Locked File Backup (eg. SQL database files, and MS Outlook mail files), the unique creation of Data Recovery Bin saves changed portion of files continuously at real time before next scheduled or manual backup. Modified working files are now retrievable. Data loss due to human error or other types of mistakes can be avoided effectively.

Local and Remote Backup Destinations

Local incremental backup, which saves only the changed files, increases backup efficiency and reduces the requirement for large storage capacity at the same time. Best of all, local backup give users flexible means to find the files needed for recovery and restore them quickly with ease.

(6)

Simple, Fast Restore Restoring by copy directly from Windows Explorer the

individual files or the entire backup structure from the backup destination to a desired location has proven to be the most easy and efficient method for file recovery.

Self-Service End-User Data Recovery

Being able to find needed files and restore them without help of administrative staff or IT professional give the users the sense of control to their files. The effect is beyond convenience, it could seriously help increase productivity and lower administrator costs.

Example two: Saving files with the Data Recovery Bin

The innovative advancement of Data Recovery Bin is its role to recover files not saved by Windows Recycle Bin. The two major characteristics of the Data

within a cycle of duration to a maximum of 14 days. Files of dates beyond the defined time duration will be removed.

First, you would want to define the file-keeping duration. From the main status screen shown on top of this page, click button Advance to open this dialog box.

User can change the number of days in which files are to be kept. The default is set on 7 days. This means on the 8th day, files saved on the first day will be removed. Data Recovery Bin can keep up to 14 days of modified data.

Now click the View Report button to open up the Data Recovery Bin dialog box.

(11)

The modified file listing can also be viewed in a plain list without the folder structure.

To go back to a certain version of previous modification, you can select the file by its name within the time range and click the button Copy to to restore the file. The default path for file restore is the files original location.
