FRESHMAN APPLICANTS
Request an official copy of your high school record, and have it mailed to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. (This should be completed by the high school you last attended.) Oakland University also requires your official ACT scores for admission.
TRANSFER APPLICANTS
Request that an official transcript be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions from each college or university you have attended. To be considered official, the transcript must be mailed directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the records office of each school and must bear the seal of that institution. If you have earned fewer than 24 semester hours, a high school record is also required.
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
International applicants may be required to submit additional application materials. For more information, visit www.oakland.edu/apply or contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at (800) OAK-UNIV or [email protected].
POST-BACCALAUREATE APPLICANTS
Post-baccalaureate students who hold a BA/BS or equivalent degree and want to take additional courses not related to an additional degree. Under post-baccalaureate status, your previous academic work will not be evaluated by the registrar and you will be admitted as a non-degree seeking student. Tuition is assessed at undergraduate upper division rates. Please note that students under this status do not qualify for financial aid. Submit a photocopy of your baccalaureate diploma, or an unofficial transcript stating that you hold a baccalaureate degree, to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
SECOND DEGREE APPLICANTS
Second degree status indicates that you hold a baccalaureate degree and wish to earn a second undergraduate degree. Tuition for this status is assessed at undergraduate upper division rates. Students holding a bachelor’s degree or higher who wish to enter Oakland University for the purpose of obtaining an Initial Michigan Provisional Teaching certificate should complete this application. Request that an official transcript be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions from each college or university you have attended. Complete files will be reviewed by the academic department to which you are applying. You will be notified of your admission decision in writing.
NON-MATRICULATING
Non-matriculating status indicates that you are not seeking a degree from Oakland University. Students who have graduated from high school and plan to enroll in another college or university the following fall may take courses under this status. Note that you should consult with your intended college or university about whether Oakland courses will transfer, or whether taking courses prior to fall enrollment will impact your scholarship status. Please call the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to determine if this status is right for you. Students who are currently enrolled in high school, and wish to take classes at OU (known as dual enrollment), should not complete an application for undergraduate admission. Please visit www.oakland.edu/apply to down-load an application for dual enrollment. Students who already hold a bachelor’s degree, and wish to take undergraduate classes at OU should apply as either post-baccalaureate students or second-degree seeking students (see above).
SCHOLARSHIPS
This application, combined with your cumulative grade-point average and composite ACT/SAT score, also serves as your application for most merit awards offered by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to incoming freshmen. Transfer students are automatically considered for merit scholarships offered by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, including the Phi Theta Kappa award. If you are interested in applying for The Honors College, which also awards several scholarships, please call (248) 370-4450 or visit www.oakland.edu/hc for more information. MTD majors will be considered for scholarships during their required auditions. If one of your parents or grandparents graduated from Oakland University, you may be eligible to apply for the Legacy Scholarship. Call (248) 364-6134 or visit www.oualumni.com to learn more. If you are being considered for additional academic awards, you may be contacted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for further information.
ACADEMIC OFFERINGS
CHOOSING A PROGRAMMark the four-digit code for the program of study you prefer. This information will help us provide individualized academic advising. You may change your major after you are admitted. If you cannot identify a specific area of interest, please choose the Undecided, No Major Preference category (code 7500). The criteria and procedures for admission to a specific program are the responsibility of the college and department of the school of the major. Admission to OU does not guarantee admission to your desired major program, because some programs do not admit students to major standing until prerequisites are complete. For additional information, refer to the appropriate college, school and department requirements in Oakland University’s undergraduate catalog, available online at www.oakland.edu/undergradcatalog.
OTHER AREAS OF STUDY
To study in an area related to your major, you may arrange a minor in most of the areas listed here. Oakland also offers a number of interdepartmental concentrations that can help you chart a personalized educational program. These concentrations cannot be substituted for a major, but they may be taken in addition to any major. You can discuss incorporating a minor or concentration in your program of study with your academic adviser.
