YOuTH DEVELOPMENT

A voyage in Young Endeavour is an amazing experience, and a unique personal development opportunity for the youth of Australia. The emphasis of each voyage is building skills and attributes to develop each participant into a better team player, a more effective communicator and a leader.

During each eleven day voyage, youth crew aged between 16 to 23 years work in small teams, and sail the ship twenty-four hours a day in all types of conditions. They live ‘between decks’ in a close community with youth from a diverse range of backgrounds, and are encouraged to identify and pursue personal and team goals and challenges. Each voyage includes a full command opportunity for participants, who are elected by their peers for positions of responsibility for a twenty-four hour period.

Research shows that the Young Endeavour Youth Development Program has a long-lasting, positive impact on participants, building social capital in the community by increasing trust, cooperation and tolerance. The experience translates over time into more enduring social skills such as self control, goal achievement, and a positive outlook, bringing broader benefits to the Australian community as well as to the individual. Since 1988 the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme, in partnership with the Royal Australian Navy, has provided challenging training voyages for over 11,000 young Australians in Young Endeavour.

TEAM BuILDING

Foster communication, teamwork and leadership, learn to sail a square-rigged vessel and challenge your team to climb the 30 metre mast - an experience they will never forget.

A tall ship can not be sailed by one person - it requires communication, cooperation, and an appreciation of the unique skills and strengths each individual brings to a team. Build a more productive workforce in an outdoor environment which offers real world problem solving with immediate consequences. Facilitated training programs for up to 30 participants are led by a professional Royal Australian Navy crew.

SOCIAL SAILING AND EVENTS

Entertain clients, reward employees or celebrate another successful year sailing on one of Australia’s most spectacular harbours. Choose from one of our packages or plan a unique event aboard Young Endeavour.

Packages include two or three hour sailing programs and catering for up to 40 guests. Please note that alcohol is not served while Young Endeavour is underway, however the ship is also available for functions in port.

In 2013 Young Endeavour will visit Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Eden, Newcastle, Brisbane, Gladstone, Mackay and the Whitsundays. Contact the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme for available dates in your nearest port.

ABOuT THE SCHEME

The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme offers internationally recognised training programs aboard the national Sail Training Ship Young Endeavour.

Young Endeavour is a 44-metre square-rigged tall ship, given

by the United Kingdom to the people of Australia in 1988 to mark the Bicentenary. Staffed by the Royal Australian Navy, the ship is available for team building, leadership training, and events in cities around Australia.

Your support assists the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme to deliver a Youth Development Program which builds confidence, resilience and social responsibility amongst young Australians, encouraging active engagement in community life and empowering young people to make an ongoing contribution to our society.
