We offer top quality teaching and learning facilities and the ability to learn flexibly in a way that best suits their needs. For example, we are one of the UK's leading universities in e-learning and offer a range of distance learning and part time courses as well as the more traditional full time courses. Our industry partners choose Sheffield Hallam because of our flexible, business led approach and our high quality research, facilities and students. Our partners include Sony, BP, NHS, Network Rail, Cisco, SAP and Microsoft.

Our facilities are state-of-the-art and we have invested heavily in new technology to ensure that our technological capability matches the cutting-edge approach of our teaching. We are recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning, e-learning and employability.

These buildings have been part of a £multi-million refurbishment project over the last few years and the teams there provide extensive services and resources to support the learning needs, scholarly activity and research of students and staff. Our work is split into:

 Academic Services: we work with Faculties to develop information services and skills for students and staff

 Advisory Services: we offer face to face and virtual support to students and staff undertaking learning and research

 Information Resources: we provide access to the latest print and electronic resources  Learning Centre operations, management and development: we provide a well-designed,

effective learning environment where our students feel safe and supported.

Further Information about the Post

This is a new post which will play a lead role in a project to formulate and implement policies and processes for research data management in the University. The role holder will contribute to the delivery of the University's roadmap for the management, preservation and curation of research data developed in response to the policy issued by the EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) in April 2012. The policy is built on the principle of open access which advocates that the results of research which is publicly funded should be in the public domain. The EPSRC stipulates that institutions will be fully compliant with their expectations concerning the management and sharing of data produced within projects funded by them by May 2015. Other research councils and funding bodies have already followed or are likely to follow this approach.

The Research Data Manager will be based in Learning and Information Services reporting to the Head of Information Resources and will work with a University Steering Group which draws

membership from the Research and Innovation Office, Information Systems and Technology and from the research community as well as from LIS. Effective delivery of the project needs support and contribution from staff across the University. The post holder will work with key stakeholders to identify requirements for data storage, develop services for preserving and accessing data and provide support and advocacy to researchers to enable them to comply with funder requirements.
