Task 4.1

Computers are performing many roles in different departments because of software and hardware. Hardware and software needs to maintain in order to work properly. Hardware and software are working together to make functions of computer. If one of these gets fails, the computer will not work at any time and it may face many failure issues. So, hardware and software maintenance is important to increase the performance of computer as well as to avoid failures.

I recommend performing hardware and software maintenance every 2 months if the computer use every day.

If the hardware and software maintenance is not followed, the computer will face a risk of that will break down a card or any other components of PC. The processing speed will be slow. Mainly it will get problem on the internet because internet is a place where any kind of virus can infect to the computer if the antivirus software is not maintained.

If the hardware and software maintenance followed, it can detect failures, it will increase the life time of components of computer, it will reduce repairs of computer and will increase overall performances of computer.

Following are needed to perform in order to do software maintenance for

computer.

 Disk defragmenter

 Antivirus software checkups Disk defragmenter

Disk Fragmentation will make hard disk to work efficiently and it will increase the speed of computer. The main job of disk defragmenter is rearranging fragmented data for given hard drive or USB flash drive. By doing disk fragmentation, hard disks and drives will work more efficiently than current status. You also can set schedule to do disk defragmentation as well as can do manually.

(48)

Advantages of Disk defragmenter

 Computer programs will run faster and more efficiently when the disk defragmentation followed.

 Disk defragmenter will make your unarranged files as arranged files. So, the components of drive no need to travel in a long distance to check or find data.

 When antivirus scans your hard drive, it will take less time because the hard drive has fragmented by Disk defragmenter.

 This protects the hard drive from overworking itself because the files are sorted so the hard drive doesn’t need to work as more hard to read necessary files.

Reduce heat

Heat is a most important thing when using computer. Overheating will be interrupt the functions of processor and hard disk which are most important component of a computer system and without these components computer will not work. To avoid overheating, keep the computer in a well-ventilated area and operate it or open the case of the CPU. So maintain this strategy whenever using the computer in BCAS in order to reduce heat.

Clean dust

Dust is normally around everywhere especially in every lecture hall and labs in BCAS because BCAS located near the roads. So, dusts will accumulate inside the system of computers and it will not make PC to run smoothly. To overcome this, the system unit of computer in BCAS should be cleaned at least once a month. Simply by using as smooth brush can clean dust. Avoid using water because it will create a short circuit to the components of computer. By maintain this method, computer hardware components will not damage.

(54)

Check electricity

Electricity is main power of a computer which giving electric to all components of computer. To run computers efficiently, maintain the voltage of electricity is important especially in BCAS because BCAS having large numbers of computer. While using computer, if the electricity is fluctuating it will damage the hard disk and the Power Supply. If electricity fluctuation is happening continuously, just turn off the computers that have been using in BCAS and use the computers when the electricity runs normal.

Maintain computer hardware or maintain components of computer

To maintain components of computers following actions needed to perform in BCAS

 Clean the computer case with a blower once every week because the dust will accumulate inside the CPU and it can affect the performance of computer.
