Laxon, the secretary is Har-low and the treasurer is

Linden.

All school leaders will be inducted on the Wednes-day afternoon, 31 March. We hope to have a special guest speaker at the event.

Parents are invited to at-tend afternoon tea in the

staffroom after a special parade to induct the school’s leaders. The pa-rade will be held at 2 pm.

Christmas Creek

Cross-Country – 16

March

This year’s cross-country was held at Darlington State School on Tuesday,

16 March.

Everyone turning 9 this year, or older, was eligible to enter the cross-country.

The students had been practising for this race. All that practice meant that

out of 6 students who at-tended, William received

1st place, Montana and Noah were placed 2nd and Harlow was 4th in her race.

Congratulations go to all our students for

participat-ing and finishparticipat-ing their re-spective races.

The new “Student Code of Conduct 2020-2023” was

presented at the recent P&C meeting for approval.

It has been endorsed by the P&C. The document will replace the previously

entitled “Responsible Be-haviour Plan for Students –

2018-2021” currently on our website. A copy of the

signed document will also be sent home to each

family.

Student Council

Fundraising

Our Student Council is made up of students in

Years 3-6. They spend much of their time fund-raising and gardening. The

fundraising they do is pri-marily to subsidise our an-nual camps and to support

the Queensland Cancer Council and the chaplaincy

program. The Student Council pays the entries to

all the venues we visit when on our camps. They

also donate $300 to the Cancer Council and $300 to

Chaplaincy each year. The Student Council’s first

fundraiser for this year, is selling ice-blocks on Fri-days at lunchtimes in first and fourth terms when the

weather is hot. Our second fundraiser is our annual Easter choco-late drive. For those

(4)

56 chocolates for a return of $56. The boxes of

choc-olates have been given to your children this week. If

you can’t sell any, or you can’t sell them all, we just

ask that you return them to the school so that other

families can sell them. If you can sell more than your allocated box, we have plenty more boxes to

sell. We just ask that you return the money ($56 in the envelope, that is

sup-plied inside the box with the chocolates) before

tak-ing the second box. With help from the P&C, the Student Council will re-ceive all raffle money from

the Easter Raffle held at the Rathdowney Hotel. We want to sincerely thank the

managers of the Rathdowney Hotel for hosting raffles in the Pub

to help the school with fundraising.

Next term the Student Council will again serve healthy lunches on Fridays.

At the meeting this week they decided on menu op-tions for term 2. We’ve decided on an assortment of soups, curried sausages,

fried rice, pasta bolo-gnaise, tacos and toasties.

P&C News

The P&C met the week be-fore last week for its An-nual General Meeting and

elected office bearers for this year.

Secretary for 2021 is So-relle Jobson

Treasurer for 2021 is an open position, as yet

un-filled.

Mr Wes Kroll, after being treasurer for a few years, did not accept the nomina-tion to run for Treasurer again this year. So the P&C is looking for someone else

to fill the Treasurer posi-tion for 2021. Mr Kroll has offered to help train some-one in the job and be there

as a backup support if you need it.

Vice – President is an open position, as yet unfilled.

Tuckshop convenor for 2021 is also an open

posi-tion, as yet unfilled. Uniform convenor for 2021

remains Kay Todd.

Book Club convenor re-mains Janine Reilly. The P&C hope to have more parents at their next

meeting which has been postponed until a week later than originally

sched-uled. The P&C meeting

will now be held on 23 March at 6pm in the school’s staffroom. This is

because some teachers and parents will be at the

Christmas Creek Cross-Country at Darlington State

School on 16 March. We want as many people as possible at our next P&C meeting so that we can

elect people to fill the open positions in the P&C. At our next meeting, there

will also be an asbestos presentation.

meet-ing. The meetings are gen-erally short and over by 7:30pm. A movie will be

supplied in the adjacent music room for any little

ones who come along.

“Thank You” to

The Reilly Family

Two weekends ago, the whole Reilly family showed

up at school to give the place a clean up. We had had a storm that week and there were branches down

and green waste every-where. When the Reilly’s

were finished, order was restored and the play-ground looked like a park!

Thank you, Max, Mia, Joce-lyn and your parents, Tom and Janine for a job well

done!

Junior News

This week the Preps have been learning the letters ‘d’ and ‘g’ and the sound they make. They have also

been practising how to write them with the cor-rect formation. We ate some yummy donuts and made some grape kebabs using our fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

I have attached some pho-tos below. The Year 1s and

sound and the various ways we represent it (f, ff, ph). They all did really well

with their spelling this week.

In Maths, the Preps have been working on the num-ber 7. They have also been

exploring 2D shapes. The Year 1s and 2s have been working with subtraction stories as well as mass. We

have also started our end of term Maths testing. For our English c2c unit, our students have started planning and drafting their

information reports on their chosen animal. We have been highlighting key

words from our reliable sources (information sheet,

websites, books) to put into our information report planner. From our planner,

we will construct sen-tences and paragraphs

us-ing adjectives and noun

groups under 4 headings (description, diet, habitat, interesting facts). The

stu-dents are really enjoying this unit.
