However the well fleshed lambs still selling to a premium. Top being 237p for 46kgs £109 from Miss J Maynard, Lifton. (3) BREED. 368 CALVES & STIRKS – 09.45 am Auctioneer: James Morrish 07814 010133 Tim Kivell 07788 281900 One of the largest entries of calves seen at the new Holsworthy Market with 368 sold to a 100% clearance.. A. Angus Hereford x Limousin x British Blue Friesian Charolais x South Devon Simmental Devon x. Top call of the day was £540 given for the best 12 British Blue calves in from John, Janet and Mark Elliott of Bradford with others from the same good farm at £500. Alan Pomeroy of Braworthy sold another cracking entry of young calves with his best 38 day old British Blue at £462 with Ann Jose and Family at £450, with Messrs Furse of Ashwater at £440. Darren and Claire Furse of Westcott saw their best baby British Blues at £418 whilst the pick of a good entry of Limousin saw a top call of £418 on behalf of Messrs Cleave of Launcells. The best of the Charolais bulls today came in from Rodney Dymond of Shebbear hitting £380 for a 26 day old, with others at £375 and £370 closely followed by a wonderful 23 day old in from L and L Luxton of Milton Damerel. In the heifer pens, Ann Jose and Family topped the day with a Charolais at £410 and 2x £405 with the same good farm at £410 for British Blues. Today’s overall Champion (kindly sponsored by Folk to Folk) hit £380 on behalf of Jeremy Ovens at Halwill. Messrs Elliott of Bradford saw a bunch of 5 sell at £375 with the best of the Limousins in from AJ and PE Nancekivell of Kilkhampton reach £345. Lots of very young Hereford heifers sold to a steadier trade with Messrs Harris of Winkleigh at £140 and Messrs Nickels of Newton Tracey at £108. A good entry of 50 stirks saw plenty of trade with Ian Tapp and Family travelling down from Tiverton to top the day at £670 for the best of his 10 British Blues. Messrs Grabham of Highampton saw his 4 month old Limousin stirks race away to £655 and a quality entry of very young Charolais and Simmentals in from Messrs Sheridan of Tregnelos, Cornwall at £620 (x3). The same good home saw their heifers top the day at £560 for 2 groups of very smart Charolais with Simmentals at £520. Overall a really successful day at Holsworthy and our thanks goes to all vendors, purchasers and staff for making it a good result for all. (4) 363 STORE CATTLE - 11 am Auctioneer: David Kivell 07899 960272 A terrific entry and the trade seemed stronger than previous weeks with a much larger crowd of buyers than previous weeks Mr EJ Gay, Chulmleigh topped the day at £1385 for a British Blue steer 22mths. A lovely run of quality Single Suckled steers from Mr R Vooght saw 8 steers 17-25mths average £1327 topping at £1370 other Single Suckled Simmental steers from Messrs PH and JE Wonnacott, Halwill saw the best to £1285 others to £1185. Stronger dairy x British Blue steers in short supply and more required with most £1100+. Native steers saw a top of £1190 for a Hereford steer from Messrs FA Marshall, Shebbear with other fleshed Herefords from Messrs P and P Ogbourne, Ashwater to £1130. Single Suckled South Devon steers from Messrs AG and JW Prouse, North Tamerton sold well at £1105. Aberdeen Angus steers topped at £1100 for 3 from Mr SO Metherell, Welcombe. Maiden Heifers 580 534 Top call of the day was £2,200 for a fresh calved heifer ‘Halebury Successor Goldie’ and sold on behalf of Mr GJ Hutchings of St Giles on the Heath. The same vendor also sold heifers to £2,000 (x2) and £1,950 with his consignment averaging £1,900. Messrs H Burrows and Sons of Woolacombe sold an excellent August calved heifer ‘Glendene Hart Alcie’ £2,120. The Harris Family of Winkleigh also sold another super run of fresh calved heifers topping at £2100 for ‘Winkleigh Rollum Genette’ with others selling to £2,050, £1950 and £1,900 and the consignment averaging £1875. Paul and Tom Westaway of Yeovale Farms, Bideford sold a fresh calved heifer ‘Yeovale Outback Mary’ at £2,050 with their consignment of both cows and heifers averaging £1860. A limited entry of freshly calved cows sold to a top price of £1950 for a 2nd calving cow ‘Yeovale Charley Cornquake’ yielding 46Kgs on behalf of Yeovale Farms.
