O PENING OF S CHOOL

This coming week, we begin our school year here at St. John’s. The students return on Monday to have their pictures taken along with the photos of parish and school staff. On Tuesday, the students return to the classroom. We begin the school year with a new principal, Ben Oberdorf, along with a new 2nd Grade teacher as well as a substitute teacher in Grade 7 until mid October. We are very excited about the new school year with an increased enrollment for 2021-2022.

The students will notice many improvements to the school this year including new flooring in the hallways on the second floor which matches the new flooring previously installed on the first floor. Projections are the new gym floor will be ready for sports by the end of September.

Please join me in prayer that this will be another year of growth in mind, body, and spirit.

F ESTIVAL B EGGING L ETTER

To date, we have received $66,482 towards the Festival fund. We are very close to our goal of $70,000. If you are able, please prayerfully consider making a donation.

24-H OUR E UCHARISTIC A DORATION

“Our times are critical and the Sacred Heart is among us. He is granting special power. He is coming with the same overt grace that the Virgin has displayed at places such as Fatima. It is the time of the Eucharist. When we spend time in front of the Blessed Sacrament, we feel a power similar to that during the Elevation of the Host. We encounter a holiness second only to Mass. While nothing is more powerful than the liturgy, Adoration comes in second. During Adoration, which keeps the Blessed Sacrament right there before us, prayers are heard and answered.”

—Michael H. Brown, Secrets of the Eucharist , Queenship Publishing Company, 1996

St. John’s is fortunate to have 24-hour Perpetual Adoration. Please take advantage of this beautiful opportunity to stay close to God. There are currently two open hours for Adoration: one on Mondays from 2:00 until 3:00pm and another on Wednesdays from 9:00 until 10:00am. Please call Kay Shomperlen at (414) 763-1250 if you would like to volunteer.

This past week, teachers participated in four days of Inservice to get ready for the school year. The week included many activities and learning opportunities. A few of the topics discussed were standards-based assessment, plans for the school year, new things to implement, and old things to continue.

We also created individual mission statements, sharing why each of us chose teaching. These statements will be posted in each classroom. This is just the beginning and there is still plenty of work to do.

Throughout the week, we set a strong foundation for our school year as we continue to build the Christ-centered, loving, engaging environment needed to best serve our students and families. Without a doubt, the staff is excited and prepared for the first day of school on August 31 and is ready to begin creating the leaders of tomorrow. A big shout out to the staff for an outstanding week of preparation and their dedication to St. John the Evangelist Parish school.

C OUSIN S S CHOOL F UNDRAISER

S AVE T HE D ATE - X AVERIAN M ISSIONAIRES A NNUAL R UMMAGE S ALE

For the second year in a row, the Xaverian Mission Festival has been cancelled due to COVID-19. However, on the bright side, because they have not held the Festival in two years, they have two years’ worth of rummage. On September 25 and 26, beginning at 8:00am each day, you can explore a large tent full of incredible bargains. They have everything from toys and games to small appliances and kitchen items. Please help them empty their garage of rummage so that the Fathers can park their cars inside before the cold, harsh Wisconsin winter arrives!

The Annual Seminary Dinner will once again return to the Wisconsin Center this Autumn. Please join in meeting the 70 seminarians who are offering their lives to Jesus Christ, so that they can serve you as His priests. Join fellow parishioners from St. John’s for a special dinner and evening as we show our support for our diocesan seminary and seminarians. Please call Mary or Dennis Baumgardner at (414) 427-0832 for further information and/or to RSVP. Your reservation is needed by August 31. Transportation can be arranged. Regardless of what happens in the world, St. Francis de Sales Seminary will always be rooted in Fidelity to the Lord.
