Novell
Instructions for logging in to your Novell account:
When logging in to Novell there are several factors that you need to be aware of.
Troubleshooting Tips:
If you are having difficulties logging in, the first thing you need to do is check your settings. From the main Novell log in window, click on the Advanced button.
1. When the Novell login window expands, the login settings will appear. Your context string should look something like “Teachers.KMS.MS.HumbleK12”. If it is not correct, click on the
Contexts button and browse to find your correct context. Make sure you choose the appropriate
path for your campus. The campuses are now divided into elementary, middle and high schools. Please refer to the following:
AS – Administrative staff (ADM, ISC, FAC)
HS – High Schools (AHS, CATE, HHS, KHS, KPHS, QHS, SCHS)
User IDs will be the fi rst initial of the first name and the first six letters of the last name. Example: John Davison would be ‘jdaviso’ *If you have less than 6 letters in your last name, you would put all letters. The maximum is 6 letters.
In the event of a duplicate, Novell, GroupWise and Call Logging (HEAT) User IDs will be the first in itial of the first name, the first initial of the middle name and the first six letters of the last name.
♦ Example: Login: MKMALLOY ♦ Password: MKMALLOY1234
For first ti me users, the Novell p assword will be the User ID plus the last four digits of the social security number.
♦ Example: MMALLOY1234
Your first password is assigned by technology services. After that, you choose your Novell password. You will be prompted
periodically to change your password. The system will not allow you to re-use a previously used password.
NOTE: There are some exceptions depending on what your Novell login window looks like.
♦ If you have a drop down for the Location, you want to make sure you have selected the correct Location. ♦ If you do not have an Advanced button, you will have
to type your context string in manually. The information below will explain how you figure out what your context string is. After you know what the context string is, you can skip to # 3.
♦ Click on the + to expand the group where
your campus is located, ie. “MS” for Middle School.
♦ Click on the + next to your campus in the list
to expand your campus information.
♦ Select which best describes your position: You
will need to determine if you are a “Teacher”, “User” or “Student”
♦ Here is an example of what your path should look
like:
o Teachers.KMS.MS.HumbleK12
♦ Click OK when you have finished selecting the
2. Next you will need to make sure the Server is correct. If the server is not your campus server, you will need to type in the name of your server manually. All campus servers will be the ‘campus initials-FS’. For example: KMS-FS, WCE-FS, ISC-FS, etc.
3. If you do not have the Advanced button try the following:
♦ In the Username box you will need to manually type your context string.
* Begin with a period before you type your context string. See example below.
The Novell login gives you access to the necessary files and software. After you login, click on My Computer. You will see the network areas to which you have access. The area named the same as your Novell ID is your personal file space. When you save files, save them to your network file by choosing Save As and clicking on the down arrow in the Look In box and choosing your personal file space. Whenever you log in to a computer in your building, you will have access to your personal files. You also have access to common files. These are areas that are accessible by others. The Staff common folder is accessible by all faculty and staff in the building but is not accessible by students. The Student common folder is accessible by all faculty, staff, and students. Students also have personal files areas named with their login in. Those files are located in the Student directory and are organized by the student login (first initial, last initial, last four digits of the students ID, for example CF0988)
