Leadership Program Application

A completed application should be returned to Ms. Conte in the activities office no later than Friday, March 8, 2013 by 2:15pm. If you do not complete an application, you will not be granted an interview, nor be considered for a position in this program. Late applications will not be accepted for any reason.

Each year, the Leadership program is composed of individuals who share the desire to develop their personal leadership skills through the creation and implementation of student activities, independent and group assignments, school and community service, daily writing assignments, and interaction with students, teachers, and administration.

All students interested in running for an SGA Office, SAC Representative, or Class Office are required to apply and be accepted to the Leadership program prior to being approved to run for office. The South County SGA is

looking for students who are interested in being leaders, regardless of title and office.

There are a limited number of spots available in this program and therefore we ask that if you would like to be a member of this team, that you complete this application. The questions are designed to evaluate your

ability to be a successful student in Leadership.

All applicants are required to attend an interview. Applicants will be interviewed by a panel on March 19-20, 2013; you will be excused from class to attend this interview. Both the application and interview will

determine who is selected for the 2013-2014 Leadership Program; therefore both must be completed in order to be considered for selection.

If accepted to the 2013-2014 Leadership Program you are expected to attend the 2013 Leadership Retreat on June 18 & 19, 2013. The cost to students is tentatively $150 for lodging, food, activities, and transportation; the Leadership Program will fund the additional costs associated with the trip. More information about the retreat will be available in late spring. Please check your calendar as you complete the application process.

This trip is mandatory if you wish to be a part of the Leadership Program.

In addition to regular classroom assignments, you will be expected to put in a considerable amount of time and effort outside of school. As a leader, you are a role model. You are required to conduct yourself as a

responsible, positive student, as you are a representative of South County High School (please see the attached Leadership Code of Conduct). If you are willing to meet these expectations, please sign below and complete the application.

Leadership Code of Conduct

The following document details the expectations and responsibilities of a Leadership student at South County High School. The guidelines provided below are considered minimum standards and students may be asked to take on additional responsibilities as their course work prescribes throughout the year.

As a Leadership student, it is our expectation that you are a role model to the student body at SCHS.

Therefore, it is your responsibility to follow the rules and policies of our school and encourage your peers to do so as well. Your role as a Leadership student will require you to be security at events,

speak professionally and conscientiously in front of your peers, faculty, and staff, and attend out-of-school events. This position may also require you to direct students, enforce rules, or otherwise help

your Leadership teammates; a leader at SCHS does so with their head held high while demonstrating an overall positive model of behavior at SCHS.

Disciplinary actions taken against you throughout the year for attendance, behavior, or honesty

infractions could remove you from the Leadership program and/or office; this may be determined at the discretion of Ms. Saale, Ms. Conte, Mr. Smith, your Class sponsor as appropriate, and/or the SCHS Administration. An infraction that involves major breaches of integrity and/or violations of the FCPS

Student Rights and Responsibilities will result in an automatic dismissal from the Leadership Program and any office that you may hold.

Your academic success is a critical element of being a role model. As a Leadership student you are expected to maintain your grades; a minimum cumulative 2.5 G.P.A. is required to continue your membership in this program.

Being a part of the SCHS Leadership Program will require your dedication, initiative, and time. Due to the demands of this program, your ability to manage your time effectively will be important. You are

expected to attend committee meetings and class meetings as this is part of your obligation and commitment to the leadership family. If your ability to meet this requirement is impacted by other activities or classes, you must be an active advocate for yourself and be able to balance between your multiple responsibilities.

 Homecoming Powder Puff Games

 Homecoming Pep Rally during school hours  Homecoming Parade

 Homecoming Football Game

 Homecoming Dance set-up, attendance, and clean-up

In addition to attending the events, if you are a committee member planning one of these activities, you are required to be available for set-up prior to and clean-up after your event. Time needed for set up/clean-up will vary by activity.

All Leadership students are required to attend set-up and clean-up for the Homecoming Dance as scheduled. At minimum this will include the Saturday morning of the dance from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.-12 a.m. after the dance; it will include Friday evening 10/18 from 8-11pm.

The ONLY EXCEPTION to the Homecoming attendance requirements is for individuals who must attend varsity sports practices and/or games the week of Homecoming. You must document your absence by October 1, 2013 and have it approved by Ms. Saale. Any other commitments that week should be rescheduled. Your advisors will work with the SCHS faculty, staff, and coaches to ensure that they

understand this is a required part of your grade and necessary in order to conduct the activities required of this group during Homecoming week. If you are missing set-up for a legitimate, pre-approved

purpose, you must complete an extra non-required for the first quarter.

All Leadership students are expected to attend the 2013 Leadership Retreat on June 18-19, 2013. At this event we will be planning future details of the SGA/Leadership year including Homecoming. This is a critical planning step to be involved in as we will not be able to adjust or add items to the calendar as the school year gets started. Please make plans to attend!

We will also meet several times in August 2013 to plan our involvement in New Student Orientation, Welcome Back for Teachers, Stallion Stampede, and start the planning of Homecoming.

If you are willing to meet these expectations, please sign below to complete your application!
