Re: Campus Assignment
Warm greetings from Chung-Ang University!
We have not yet accept your students yet but please refer to this letter when you advise the applicants who would like to come to Chung-Ang University as a exchange student.
We often get inquiries from exchange students if they can study at Seoul Campus instead of Anseong campus since we have two campuses. The two campuses have their own strength and weakness and International Center of Chung-Ang University are doing its best to assign exchange students to the right campus.
There are three factors to be considered in choosing the campus to study. These factors are 1) the purpose of study 2) Korean and English language proficiency and 3) living expenses
As you may know both campuses have comprehensive range of courses. However, there is a slight difference which exchange students should consider in terms of the courses offered.
At Anseong Campus, 8 Korean courses of 4 levels are offered for exchange students. Anseong Campus provides ideal setting for those who want to study the Korean language and culture together with other academic courses with low costs.
At Seoul Campus, many courses are offered in English for those who have English language ability. We normally assign to Seoul campus students with Korean language proficiency (comparable to TOPIK level 4 or above) or high level of English language proficiency (comparable to TOEFL 213 or above) so that they have no problems of taking courses offered in Korean or English.
There is also a difference in the cost of housing between Seoul and Anseong campus. For example, the cost of a twin room of the dormitory is only US $500 per semester in Anseong compared to US $1600 per semester for off-campus housing in Seoul.
We normally assign your students to Anseong campus because we can arrange a space at the dormitory for them. In case of Seoul Campus, the spaces of on-campus housing are very limited and students should pay additional expenses for their off-campus housing in case dormitory spaces are not available to them.
Please let applicants to Chung-Ang University exchange program know about the upper mentioned two factors (language proficiency & living costs) when they choose the campus.
Thank you for your cooperation in advance and hoping to receive your students.
Those Korean Courses are regular courses conducted every semester. The exchange students don't have to pay for those classes and get credits after taking them. Also, it takes one and a half hour by bus from Seoul to Anseong.
