Changes in Your Vision
While cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the U.S., there is often confusion about what causes cataracts, how they affect vision and how they can be corrected.
What is a Cataract?
A common misconception is that a cataract is a “film” that forms over the eye. In reality, cataracts occur inside the eye with a gradual clouding of your eye’s clear, natural lens. Over time, this causes your vision to be cloudy, blurry and less sharp.

What causes cataracts?
Cataracts usually develop as part of the natural aging process, but there are other factors that can cause cataracts to form: • Genetics • Eye injuries • Diseases (such as glaucoma or diabetes) • Smoking
• Overexposure to sun’s rays • Some medications
“Dr. Solomon and his team are the best. I was treated
with compassion, empathy, and respect. It’s easy to
see that they truly care about each and every patient.”

Advanced Cataract Surgery
More than 2 million people have cataract surgery each year, making it one of the most commonly performed surgeries in the US. It is an outpatient procedure, normally taking only a few hours of your time.
Cataract Surgery/Advanced Lens
Replacement: Step-by-Step
Step One:
After making a small incision in your eye, Dr. Solomon will insert a probe to break up and remove the cloudy, cataract-affected lens.
Step Two:
The flexible lens implant is folded up and inserted into the lens capsule, at which point it opens and its haptics, or “arms,” unfold to keep it in the proper position.
Step Three:
With the cataract removed, and the new lens in place, light can once again travel unimpeded to the back of your eye, for clearer, more youthful vision.
“It was very hard for me to see in the dark, or the rain, to
drive to and from work. My vision now is great, and I can
now drive safely. Dr. Solomon is a great doctor and I would
recommend him to everyone!”

Advanced Lifestyle Lenses
Until recently, nearly everyone was fitted with a basic Intraocular Lens (IOL) that would provide clear distance vision but patients still had to rely on reading glasses or bifocals for a full range of vision. Recent innovations have led to the development of a variety of premium lifestyle lenses, each with their own unique features and advancements.
Premium Lens Options:
1. Full Range of Vision – A multifocal IOL is a type of premium
lens implant that can restore your ability to focus on things at varying distances including the close vision needed for tasks such as reading, threading a needle, or tying a fishing lure.
2. Astigmatism Correction – A Toric IOL is a lens implant
designed to correct moderate to high astigmatism, often times providing patients clearer, crisper vision than what glasses can provide, even at night.

FAQ’s
Which lens is best for me?
While the characteristics of your eyes certainly play a critical role in lens selection, it’s just as important to consider your lifestyle, and the role vision plays in the activities you enjoy. At your consultation, Dr. Solomon will take the time to discuss your options and help you select the lens that will change the way you see the world!
Are there other options?
In some cases, new glasses may temporarily improve vision, but there are no medications or exercises that will help cataracts disappear. If cataracts are interfering with your vision, surgery is the answer. With an experienced surgeon, cataract surgery is a safe and effective way to restore your clear vision and enjoy life fully once again.
Will I need to have cataract surgery again?
The results are permanent, offering you a lifetime of good vision. However, some patients may experience a clouding of the tissue surrounding the IOL. Should this occur, a laser may be used in an outpatient procedure to painlessly remove the cloudiness and restore clear vision.
When should I have cataract surgery?
The time for surgery is when cataracts are causing loss of vision which affects your ability to perform activities of daily living in your accustomed manner. With modern advancements in cataract surgery, developing cataracts no longer means having to suffer with blurry vision. The first step in detecting cataracts and determining your need for surgery is through a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Solomon.
Financing
Medicare and most insurances will pay for most of the cost of your cataract surgery when using a standard IOL. If you choose Laser Cataract Surgery with or without a Lifestyle IOL, you will have additional costs that will not be covered by insurance and will be an out of pocket cost to you. Considering the visual benefits and freedom that comes with it, most patients feel the additional investment is worth it. We also offer a variety of financing options to make your choice easier and more affordable.
If you’re suffering from blurry, cloudy, dull vision that just isn’t what it used to be, there’s no need to wait any longer! It’s time to open the door to a bright, clear world and restore your vision and your lifestyle.
