Task Description

DESIGN BRIEF: You are a graphic designer that specialises in designing promotional and marketing materials using graphic technologies for multinational companies. A company wishing to manufacture a Key Tag that will be distributed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Events has approached you to create a traditionally inspired design.

In this task, students will use electronic CAD software to design and 3D Print a Key Tag, and information technologies to generate a portfolio (in PDF format) that is to be submitted with your proposed Key Tag by the due date.

Product Restrictions: The Key Tag must:

• Be 3D Printed using PLA Filament

• not exceed a build volume of 35,000mm

• have a hole or provision to fit a 25mm diameter metal keyring

• incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander relevance/connection

• function as a key tag (suitable shape and size to fit in a person’s pocket)

This task also requires students to attempt an online quiz. This quiz will consist of a range of multiple choice, true false, matching of terms and short answer questions. The questions will be based on the content taught in the Promotional Prototypes Unit, testing their knowledge of the:

• Design and Production Process

• Work of Aboriginal Designers

• CAD software (Fusion 360)

Details of Submission

The successful completion of this task requires:

• a STL file of CAD design to be shared online for printing,

• an electronically produced final drawing of design in PDF file to be submitted on google classroom and,

• a 3D printed prototype to be handed in to your classroom teacher.

Teacher Feedback and Student Self-Reflection

• The task will typically be returned to students within 14 of the due date.

• At this time feedback including information on how to improve will be provided through written feedback via annotated marking criteria.

• Students can clarify or seek further feedback by speaker with their teacher or the assessment marker.

• You will also receive feedback on your literacy performance based on the criteria in the school’s literacy marking rubric. The marks achieved for literacy will account for between 10% – 20% of the maximum task value.

Upon return of the task, students will also be expected to complete a self-reflection.

Students will reflect on this task via the completion of an in class evaluation worksheet and discussion.

How does this link to my learning?

• Project work in the Technology Mandatory course is intended to give students the opportunity to plan, design and create a product that has a specific purpose. Students are to follow the design and production process to develop a 3D printed Key Tag that fits the design brief.

• Students will develop an understanding of and apply design theory, use design and production processes that encourage flexibility, resourcefulness and imagination in the development, communication and production of quality solutions.

• Report Outcomes:

o Plans and manages the production of design solutions.

o Selects and safely applies tools, materials and processes in the production of quality projects.

Assessment Procedures

All students should be fully aware of the School Assessment Procedures for their year group. These were provided at the beginning of the school year and are available off the school website under the Learning Tab for each year group.
