GENERAL INFORMATION PACKAGE
1. INTRODUCTION
This package contains information to assist you with the planning of your visit. The event will be organized by the University of Salamanca and the Spanish Ministry of Defence. The RTO Lecture Series IST-134 on “Advanced Algorithms for Effectively Fusing Hard and Soft Information” will be held at:

b. Coffee breaks
Throughout the morning and afternoon, refreshment breaks will be served free of charge.
c. Lunches
Lunches will be served at the Hospedería Fonseca, from 12.30 to 13.30. They will include a starter followed by a main dish to choose among three options, with a cost of 13.00 Euros (VAT included)
d. Language
All lectures, presentations and discussions will be held in English.
e. Wi-Fi access
There are two methods to connect to the University of Salamanca Wi-Fi. Users can choose one or the other depending on their needs or on their terminal features:
• USAL-Web is an open network without secure connections. Credentials (login and password) are given at the registration. It allows web navigation without having to configure anything on your laptop or PDA.
• EDUROAM is a network that requires authentication. Staff from other organizations, which are joined to EDUROAM project MovIRIS/EDUROAM, can access to this service at University of Salamanca by using their login and password.
3. ENROLMENT / REGISTRATION
Attendees to the IST-134 Lecture Series must enroll before the start of the event. You can enroll on-line at www.cso.nato.int (go to the “Activities” section of the Home Page and select “Upcoming Events”. Once there select Lecture Series on "Advanced Algorithms for Effectively Fusing Hard and Soft Information” (IST-134 - 15/10/2015 to 16/10/2015 – Spain). There are no conference fees for STO Lecture Series.
Registration will start at 8:00 on Thursday morning, 15th October in the Salón de la Cúpula of Colegio Arzobispo Fonseca. All meeting attendees will be provided with a badge and they are asked to wear it while attending the meetings. However, for security reasons, please remove your badge when leaving the meeting site. Take care of your badge and make sure that you bring it with you when going to meetings each day.

5. TRANSPORTATION TO THE MEETING SITE
You can fly directly to Salamanca Airport. There are daily flights from Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca (with Air Europa and Air Nostrum). Another option is to fly to Valladolid Airport or Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport in Madrid, the closest airports to Salamanca:
a. Madrid-Salamanca
Should you land in Madrid at Barajas airport, there are three options to travel to Salamanca by public transport:
1. Traveling from Madrid airport to Salamanca by Bus
You can take a direct bus to Salamanca at Terminal 1 of Madrid-Barajas Airport. The bus stop is situated in the bus parking at Terminal 1. Please, visit the link http://www.avanzabus.com to check the timetable of these buses. Usually, they depart from Terminal 1 at the following times:

You must also buy the ticket previously through this same webpage (price 23,45 Euro, one-way ticket). You can download the ticket and print it.
Once in Salamanca bus station, the best option is to take a Taxi to your Hotel. The taxi should cost around 4-8 euro.
2. Traveling from Madrid city center to Salamanca by Train
You may take a Taxi or the Metro (underground) to go from the Airport to Chamartin Train Station (the departure station for the trains to Salamanca). The Airport is connected to the Metro network through the LINE 8. There are two metro stops in the Airport, one corresponding to Terminal 4 and the other corresponding to Terminals 1, 2 and 3. Please, have a look to the Madrid Underground Map to localize it (see northeast):

In “Nuevos Ministerios” take the LINE 10 to “Chamartin” station (Fuencarral direction). Get down at Chamartin metro station and walk to the Train Station.
If you go to Chamartin Station by Taxi, the trip may cost from 20 to 30 euros. You can find taxi ranks in any Terminal.
The trains to Salamanca usually depart from Madrid at the following times: 08:30 – 11:14 – 13:44 – 15:30 – 17:08 – 20:06 – 21:13 – 21:50

There is the possibility to purchase your ticket (19.30 euro) online. However, you will not be able to download the ticket if it is the first time that you use this system. In such a case, you still can pay the ticket online, note the reference number (or print the window) and get the ticket at the train station desk (you will be asked to show the same credit card you used to purchase the ticket online). However, your seat will only be booked up to 1 hour before the departure time. In the event that
you arrive at the desk after 1h before the departure time, there still might be the possibility to get it, depending on how busy is that train. Of course, you can also forget about buying online and get the ticket directly at the station.
It takes 2 hours and 20 minutes to arrive to Salamanca. Once there, the best option is to get a taxi from Salamanca train station (called Vialia) to your hotel. The taxi should cost around 4-8 euro.
3. Traveling from Madrid city center to Salamanca by Bus
Buses to Salamanca from Madrid city centre depart from Méndez Álvaro Bus Station. You can get there from the airport either by Taxi or by Metro (see paragraph 2).
If you go by Metro. take the LINE 8 to “Nuevos Ministerios” station. In “Nuevos Ministerios” take the LINE 6 (called “Circular Line”) to “Méndez Álvaro” station. After getting out of the Metro at Mendez Alvaro you will easily find “Estación Sur” bus station (ask someone if you cannot find it). There you will find many buses to Salamanca.
The buses usually depart from Madrid at the following times: 07:00 - E 08:00 - E 08:30 - N 10:00 - E 11:00 - E 12:00 – E 13:00 - E 13:30 – N 15:00 – E 15:30 – N 16:00 – E 16:30 - N 17:00 - E 17.30 - N 18:00 - E 19:00 – E 20:00 - E 20:30 - N 21:00 - E 22:00 - E 22:30 - N
“E” means express service, which takes 2 hours and a half; “N” means normal service, which takes 3 hours and 5 minutes and has one stop at Avila. The updated timetables can be checked at www.avanzabus.com. Tickets can be bought online also through this web page. Price is 14.05 euros (normal service) or 20.45 euros (express service) for a one-way ticket. Please download the ticket and print it in order to be able to access the bus. Of course, you can also buy a ticket at the station.
Once in Salamanca bus station, the best option is to take a Taxi to your Hotel. The taxi should cost around 4-8 euro.
b. Valladolid-Salamanca
Salamanca is 115 Km southeast of Valladolid and there is a bus service from the airport to the city centre. Regular bus and train services are available from Valladolid (city centre) to Salamanca.
Valladolid - Salamanca (Bus):
Valladolid´s airport, Villanubla, is situated 11 km away from Valladolid. The most convenient way to get to either the bus or the train station is by taxi. It is also possible to take a bus from the airport to the city centre (however, there are not many bus services available from the airport).
Bus: It is also possible to reach the Auto-Res bus station by a bus service running from the airport (Linecar). The timetable for these bus services can be found at:
http://www.linecar.es/pdf/Horarios%20Aeropuerto%20Villanubla.pdf. Once at the "Auto-res" station in Valladolid, buses run frequently to Salamanca. The cost is approximately 10.05 Euros for a one-way ticket and 18.95 Euros for a return ticket. More information about timetables and prices can be found at their website: http://www.avanzabus.com/
Valladolid - Salamanca (Train):
The most direct way to get to the train station is by taxi, which should cost around 15 Euros. The trip to the city center takes about 15 minutes.
