In the sacred context dictated by the Liturgy,
we are now carrying out the traditional ceremony of our Order:
The Investiture of new Knights and new Dames.
Participation in the ceremony renews in all Knights and Dames the profound sense of belonging to the Order
and the full sharing of the ideals of faith and charity.
May our common prayer, which we entrust to the Virgin Mary, Mother of the Risen Christ and Queen of Palestine,
be of help to those who today embark on the new path
by becoming part of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
hy m n “Veni Creator Spiritus”
Chant, Mode VIII
Come, Creator Spirit, Visit the souls of your devoted;
With you divine grace fill The hearts which you have created.
You are called Comforter, Gift of the highest God, Fount of life, fire, love, And spiritual unction.
You are seven-fold in your gifts, The finger of God’s right hand,
You are the one duly promised by the Father, Enriching our tongues with speech.
Pr a y E r
Let us pray.
O Father, who sanctifies your Church in every people and nation, spread the gifts of the Holy Spirit to the ends of the earth, and continue in the community of believers
the wonders you wrought at the beginning of the preaching of the Gospel.
For our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who is God, and lives and reigns with You,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever.
Amen.

The Chancellor of the Lieutenancy reads the Decree with which the Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem has appointed the Knights and Dames who will receive Investiture.
in v E S t i t u r E O f Kn i G h t S a n d da m E S
The Ecclesiastical Master of Ceremonies invites the candidates for Investiture to present themselves. The candidates stand and the Celebrant addresses them:
Dear Brothers and Sisters, what do you ask of our Order?
I request to receive Investiture as a Knight/Dame of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
dEclaratiOn
The Apostolic See, and in particular the Roman Pontiffs, have always had at heart the Holy Places in the Holy Land, in particular the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem
that is the memorial of the mystery of the life
and the death of the Lord and His glorious Resurrection.
The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem was established long ago for the custody of this Holy Place
and for the care of the faithful in the Land of the Lord and of pilgrims.
Becoming a Knight or Dame means dedicating your life with commitment to profess the faith of Christ
through witness, generosity, and love for the Gospel.
This implies placing Jesus Christ at the center of our existence and of every personal, family, and social project.
It means believing in the redemptive power of the Cross and the Resurrection to offer hope and peace to the world and particularly to the Land of Jesus.
An ancient bond therefore ties us to the perennial memory
of the places of the Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection of the Lord and to the pastoral charity of the Church in the Holy Land.
Are you ready to accept this ideal in your life?
I am ready.
Every man and woman must follow their own upright conscience illuminated by faith and striving always for truth, justice, and honesty.
A Knight and a Dame of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre must always strive to achieve the perfection of the Christian life and show themselves worthy of the dignity
they receive in Baptism and with which they are clothed;
they ought to speak proudly of belonging to Christ and collaborate to uphold the good name of the Order.
Are you ready to live our Christian faith fully and to behave everywhere and always in such a way as to uphold the ideals and commitments undertaken today in honor of Christ and his Church?
I am ready.
Are you ready to promise with your word and with your heart that you will observe the Constitution of our Order?
I declare and promise with the help of divine grace and trusting in the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to observe the commitments of our Order.
Be therefore faithful and generous
Knights and Dames of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre;
know how to preserve the great richness of the values of the past, while living the present intensely, committing yourselves to today, looking toward the future, opening horizons of hope
to give a more human face to society and to make Christ the heart of the world.
actOf invEStiturE
The candidates are brought before the Celebrant. He places the crosier or processional cross on the right shoulder and says:
By virtue of the mandate conferred upon me, I constitute and proclaim you
a Knight/Dame of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
In the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
The Celebrant then presents the neck Cross, saying:
Receive the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, may it protect you and be for you
a sign of honor and pledge of eternal glory.
Amen.
The new Knight or Dame is covered with the Cape. The Dames wear the mantilla.
Thereafter, each is welcomed into the Order.
When the Knights and Dames are back at their seats, the Celebrant addresses them saying:
Now that you are Knights and Dames of the Holy Sepulchre, try to emulate those who, living faith,
provided for the needs of the Body of Christ, watched over it and later became also
privileged witnesses of the Resurrection of Christ.
Following their example,
express with the works of your faith
the sense of the love of Jesus which has no limit.
May Mary, Mother of the Lord and of the Church, assist you in your mission
and grant you always to have at heart the words and places where Christ passed, helping and healing.
It is my vow.
May the Divine Redeemer and the Virgin Mary grant me the necessary grace.
The new Knights or Dames bow to the celebrant.
cO n c l u S i O n O f t h E in v E S t i t u r E
O Father, who wished to save men with the Cross of Christ Your Son and poured out the Holy Spirit on the Church,
grant us, who have known Your mystery of love on earth, to enjoy the fruits of redemption.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The celebrant changes his vestments for Mass.
Pr O m O t i O n S
The Ecclesiastical Master of Ceremonies invites the candidates for promotion to stand.
Each candidate for promotion approaches the Celebrant, bows, and is conferred the insignia of the new rank. The newly promoted Knights and Dames are congratulated and return to their seats.

Brothers and sisters:
What does Scripture say?
The word is near you,
in your mouth and in your heart
—that is, the word of faith that we preach—,
for, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.
For the scripture says,
No one who believes in him will be put to shame.
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek;
the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call upon him.
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

You descendants of Abraham, his servants, sons of Jacob, his chosen ones!
He, the LORD, is our God;
throughout the earth his judgments prevail. + He remembers forever his covenant
which he made binding for a thousand generations – Which he entered into with Abraham
and by his oath to Isaac. + For he remembered his holy word to his servant Abraham.
And he led forth his people with joy;
with shouts of joy, his chosen ones. +
The Spirit of truth will testify to me, says the Lord, and you also will testify.

After this, Joseph of Arimathea,
secretly a disciple of Jesus for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus.
And Pilate permitted it.
So he came and took his body.
Nicodemus, the one who had first come to him at night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes weighing about one hundred pounds.
They took the body of Jesus
and bound it with burial cloths along with the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom.
Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been buried.
So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day;
for the tomb was close by.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

The reception of Holy Communion is the most sacred act for Catholics. We believe that we are then receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. Catholics who are properly prepared should approach the ministers of Holy Communion.
We ask non-Catholics not to receive. They are encouraged, however, to come forward with arms crossed over their heart to receive a blessing.

My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

F.E. Weatherly and Stephen Admas Last night I lay asleeping, There came a dream so fair,
I stood in old Jerusalem, Beside the temple there;
I heard the children singing, And ever as they sang, Me thought the voice of angels, From heav’n in answer rang.
And then me thought my dream was changed, the streets no longer rang, Hushed were the glad Hosannas The little children sang;
The sun grew dark with mystery, The morn was cold and chill, As the shadow of a cross arose Upon a lonely hill.
And once again the scene was changed, New earth there seemed to be, I saw the Holy City Beside the tideless sea;
The light of God was on its streets, The gates were open wide, And all who would might enter, And no one was denied.
No need of moon or stars by night, Or sun to shine by day, It was the new Jerusalem That would not pass away.

Lord, for Your five wounds
that we carry on our insignia we pray:
Give us the strength to love all whom your Father has created and, more so, our enemies.
Free our soul and heart from sin,
from partiality, from egoism, and from fear so that we can be worthy of your sacrifice.
Let Your Spirit descend upon us all,
the Knights and Dames of the Holy Sepulchre, so that it may render us as convinced
and sincere ambassadors of peace and love among our brothers and sisters,
and, especially, among all those who think they do not believe in You.
Give us Faith to face all the pains of daily life and to deserve one day to approach,
humbly but without fear, Your presence.
Amen.

As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Eucharist when we receive Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive Communion devoutly and frequently. In order to be properly disposed to receive Communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour. A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession except for a grave reason where there is no opportunity for confession. In this case, the person is to be mindful of the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, including the intention of confessing as soon as possible (Code of Canon Law, canon 916). A frequent reception of the Sacrament of Penance is encouraged for all.
fO r O u r f E l l O W ch r i S t i a n S
We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Eucharist will draw us closer to one another and begin to dispel the sad divisions which separate us. We pray that these will lessen and finally disappear, in keeping with Christ’s prayer for us “that they may all be one” (John 17:21).
Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Holy Communion. Eucharistic sharing in exceptional circumstances by other Christians requires permission according to the directives of the diocesan bishop and the provisions of canon law (canon 844 §4).
Members of Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish National Catholic Church are urged to respect the discipline of their own Churches. According to Roman Catholic Discipline, the Code of Canon Law does not object to the reception of Communion by Christians of these Churches (canon 844 §3).
fO r t h O S E n O t r E c E i v i n G hO l y cO m m u n i O n
All who are not receiving Holy Communion are encouraged to express in their hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another.
fO r n O n- ch r i S t i a n S
We also welcome to this celebration those who do not share our faith in Jesus Christ.
While we cannot admit them to Holy Communion, we ask them to offer their prayers for the peace and the unity of the human family.
