Produced by the Education Data and Analysis Team Page 1 The following notes are meant to be used as a support to officers that are responsible for inputting data in the personnel module within SIMS, for the School Workforce Census (SWF). They are designed to show which SWF items go in which SIMS fields.

However, they are not meant to be used as a substitute for SIMS training on the Schools Workforce Census. Further information on all SIMS training courses can be found on the School Improvement Liverpool website (scroll to the bottom of the page for SIMS training courses).

Different data items need to be collected for the SWF, depending on whether an individual in a school is a teacher or a member of the support staff. For teachers, there is a maximum of 39 data items to be gathered. These notes are aimed at showing where the SWF data items go in the SIMS personnel module.

In the notes, a yellow text box pointing to a red circle indicates the need to click, or double click, as appropriate, to open the relevant tab or record. An example of this is below:

A yellow text box pointing to a particular field will contain the wording of the data item, as used by the DfE for the School Workforce Census. This may differ slightly from the title of the field in SIMS. Here is an example:

Only fields that are required for the SWF are indicated. Other fields can be entered as appropriate.
