RE Cloud from Richardson Eyres
Frequently asked Questions
What is RE Cloud?
RE Cloud is Richardson Eyres cloud computing service delivering virtualised, on demand multi tenant elastic computing resource. Capacity can be scaled both up and down without contractual
commitment to a fixed capacity.
Your infrastructure or ‘Virtual data centre’ is set up by our dedicated technical team and then managed and self administered through an easy to use self-service web control panel. re cloud
express instances can be more effective (both in performance and cost) than dedicated servers and
can be provisioned in minutes.
With RE Cloud you can logically group virtual machines together and apply resource when and where you need them: -
Create Virtual machine form the ground up or use the prebuilt catalogues o Windows 2003,2008
o Redhat o Centos
Create your own internal network topology
Add more storage when you need it
VPN gateway or access via a VPN Client
Move Virtual machine between your own Virtual infrastructure into the re cloud
RE Cloudleverages Richardson Eyres years of solutions and services expertise and is built on the leading HP Proliant™ and VMware vCloud™ cloud technology.
How do the RE Cloud Virtual DataCenter offerings work?
There are two types of virtual DataCenter resource models: -
Allocation; an organisation commits to a level of resource in terms of memory, CPU, storage and
Suitable for traditional business with consistent workloads who want a predicable bill each month,
Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG): resources are only committed when users create vApps in the organization
Virtual Data Centre (vDC). You can specify a percentage of resources to guarantee, which allows you to over commit resources. You can make a Pay-As-You-Go organization vDC elastic by adding multiple resource pools to its provider vDC.
With PAYG, organisations only pay for what they use. Suitable for unpredictable, seasonal workloads or for temporary capacity such as development/test
What are the advantages of RE Cloud?
Unlike many of our competitors our customers enjoy the peace of mind of having dedicated technical expertise. RE Cloud offers two approaches;
Managed; ask and you will receive, any build or changes required and our dedicated technical team
will make those changes for you.
Managed Yourself; you will be provided with a RE Cloud virtual datacentre login after which you can
go start building your environment straight away. With online tutorials to guide you it won’t take long to have you up and running. Alternatively why not have one of the RE Cloud personnel walk you through the setup process.
What does RE Cloud run on?
RE Cloud is based on best of breed HP Proliant™, HP and EMC Storage and VMware vCloud™ cloud technology. For network security RE Cloud uses CheckPoint’s Firewall and VPN products or VMware’s vShield appliances.
How am I billed for the service?
With RE Cloud you are only billed for what you use. A monthly usage report is produced and sent to users so they are always up to date on their usage.
Fees are then payable monthly based on the configured package and corresponding usage which is calculated from the service commencement date.
Who should use RE Cloud?
RE Cloud is the perfect entry point into cloud computing – and an ideal means to evaluate then adopt the cloud within your IT function. Unlike many entry-level cloud solutions, RE Cloud gives you access to an experienced team of cloud computing experts. Richardson Eyres’ professionals will be on hand to help you plan, roll out and utilise your solution in whatever way your business needs.
Use RE Cloud if;
Your business / department has frequently shifting computing requirements
You need to quickly establish a testing and development environment
You want to create your own affordable virtual data centre
Your business needs to set up a data replication platform
What if I need Enterprise class cloud?
If you need Enterprise class cloud then talk to us about NaviCloud.
Enterprise Managed Cloud Computing Architecture: Production-Ready, Reliable, and Scalable
The NaviCloud platform sets the standard for enterprise-class infrastructure and application
performance. A robust, virtualized infrastructure deployed as multiple, secure infrastructure clouds in NaviSite's data centres. The Platform includes the building blocks of a system infrastructure service, including:
Virtualized servers
Windows and Linux operating systems
Storage
Networking
Firewalls
Load balancers
Enterprise-Class Infrastructure
The NaviCloud Platform is built on a state-of-the-art infrastructure:
VMware's vSphere 4 virtualization platform
Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS)
IBM XiV storage
Virtualized firewalls
Memory configurations specifically optimized for virtualization
Mezeo Cloud Storage platform
High-Speed, Scalable Cloud Architecture
NaviSite's cloud-enabled data centers are interconnected by dedicated 1 Gbps Ethernet links, minimizing network-oriented bottlenecks. High-speed connections to physical servers hosted in data centers ensure that complex applications scale to meet business demands. Load balancing options include low-cost shared solutions to support smaller environments, and multiple virtual load balancers – deployed and managed from within the cloud portal – to support more complex environments.
Highly Secure Cloud Computing Environment
The NaviCloud Platform employs a multi-prong approach to ensuring and enforcing the security, privacy, and integrity of enterprise applications and data. All cloud-enabled data centers are compliant with SAS 70 Type II requirements for physical and logical security. In addition, the NaviCloud Platform provides all of the security measures associated with traditional hosting environments, including:
Two-factor authentication
File integrity services
Network intrusion detection and prevention
Log aggregation and correlation
Automated vulnerability scans
Third-party penetration testing
Fully Integrated Business Continuity
Designed specifically to meet enterprise IT demands, re cloud delivers services on best-of-breed technology infrastructure from leading vendors including Cisco Systems™ and VMware™ - all provided under one of the industry's strongest SLAs.
The Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) is configured for high availability – two fabric
interconnects are connected as cluster peers, allowing both an active and standby instance of the UCS manager to run on the fabric interconnects. If the primary instance fails, the standby instance assumes the role of primary instance.
Inherent NaviCloud Disaster Recovery Benefits
Two-Tiered Cloud Computing Storage
NaviCloud employs a two-tiered approach to storage. Primary storage is handled by IBM™ XiV storage area networks (SANs) that combines high I/O rates with redundant Fibrechannel links to the disk arrays. A flexible, elastic, cloud storage capability handles enterprise requirements for secure supplementary file storage, advanced file sharing, and collaboration.
Enabling the Transactional Cloud for e-Commerce
Transaction-based applications require a cloud infrastructure that ensures security, dependability, and the ability to handle large volumes. In addition, e-commerce applications require proven credit card processing capabilities. The NaviCloud Platform meets e-commerce application requirements and adheres to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) objectives.
