Students also have free online access to IELTS exam preparation
material as well as ongoing career mentoring after graduation.
Professional Year graduates also have access services provided by
Swinburne’s Careers and Employment Unit, including free seminars,
résumé checks, interview practice sessions and access to an online
employment database.

were employed in their field within six months of completing

Program structure
Students spend the first half of the program undertaking two concurrent units of study. Classes are held during business hours for two days per week. Students then undertake their 12-week internship, as well as an online unit.

Skilled Migration Internship Program: Accounting (SMIPA)SMIPA has been developed by Swinburne College in conjunction with CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

Swinburne’s Professional Year internships provide an opportunity for you to demonstrate your knowledge and gain new skills in the Australian workplace.
Internship placements are organised by Swinburne College. We match your skills and objectives with a suitable host organisation to help you get the most out of your internship. Students are placed in a range of professional fields, including:

our accounting intern, tina, started her
internship by taking over all of our internal
bookkeeping and financial reporting work.
She also helped out with basic administrative
duties. over time she took on self-managed
super fund accounting work.
We believe this is a fantastic program for both
Australian companies, and for the interns. It
helps to break down some of the barriers that
exist when considering someone for a role
when english is their second language.

Entry requirements

■ a bachelor or master degree in accounting
or ICT from an Australian institution; students must have completed at least two years study in Australia
■
■ an overall IELTS result of 6.0
(no band below 6.0)
■
■ a skills assessment from the ACS, CPA,
CA or IPA. These bodies are authorised to assess students’ qualifications and experience in relation to applications for skilled migration
■
■ a Skilled – Graduate (Temporary) visa
(subclass 485) or a Bridging Visa A; student visa holders are not eligible. Students must also attend an interview as part of the application process.

Before the Professional Year Program
I did not know much about the real world
of accounting. Now I can apply my theoretical
