Hello Future Student,

We are excited about your interest in the EMT program here at Alamance Community College. I am writing to you today to tell you a few things you should know about our program before you arrive for the first, class session.

The EMS Department is located on ACC’s main campus in Graham. We are located on the first floor of the B-Building. Please come by my office (B-111), or schedule a zoom meeting, before the semester begins to say hello or ask any questions. My door is always open.

This course is designed to prepare the student for certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), as defined and recognized by the NC Office of EMS and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). The course content includes the knowledge and skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at the basic life support level with an emergency service or other specialized service.

Registration Process:

1. Complete a registration form – forms can be obtained either directly from Jan Vass (336-506-4316), from the EMS program’s website, or

2. Submit your FAFSA- follow the link to update your information. EMT students are eligible for SECU and GEER scholarships worth $1,000+

3. Return the registration form with tuition and fee payment ($231) – classes have a maximum capacity of 24 students. It is highly encouraged to return these registration forms as soon as possible as seats are competitive and will only be guaranteed upon receiving a full payment.

4. Submit an official transcript – First night of class or electronically

5. Obtain all of the required materials and paperwork - Paperwork will be collected the first night of class through Moodle.

6. Order uniforms – Please contact Wes Gaulden for more information see below (before class is highly encouraged).

Prerequisites:

• 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course.

• Possession of a high school diploma, high school equivalency or successful completion of an exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills at a minimum at the eleventh-grade level.

Textbook: Limmer, Daniel, & Michael F. O’Keefe. Emergency Care, 14th edition. Upper Saddle River, New Jersey: Pearson Education, Inc., 2020.

EMStesting--$49.00 (purchased the first night of class if access code is not obtained prior)

Platinum Planner - $30 (purchased the first night of class if access code is not obtained prior)

A laptop, tablet, and/or smartphone. Laptops may be checked out through the ACC Library.

Required Documents: Due the first night of class • Copy of Driver License

• Letter of Affiliation (only if eligible for fee exemption)

Official Transcript—College, High school transcript or have a GED. Submitted in-person the first night of class.

If your transcript is on file at ACC, you must request an official transcript from the ACC registrar.

Do not send an official transcript through the mail. NIMS Certificates:Due 30 days from the start of class

All of the NIMS classes can be taken on line. Once you complete them you will receive a certificate. You will be given credit for these classes. If you have any questions with regards to the information, please notify your lead instructor. “NIMS is designed to provide a consistent nationwide approach for Federal, State, and local governments to work effectively and efficiently together to prepare for, respond to and recover from

Uniforms: uniform requirements will vary based on the season the class is held. It is expected that students arrive to every class (with the exception of the first class) in a neat and professional manner. Students will not be permitted to wear any articles of clothing that are not part of the uniform (i.e jackets, hats, sweatshirts, long-sleeves, etc.). Students arriving out of uniform will not be allowed to participate in class until full compliance of the uniform policy is achieved. Students are highly encouraged to place the uniform order before the first night of class.
