Notes from

the SPL

This upcoming month is going to be a great time for our troop- jam packed &full of activities. First we have Leave No Trace training on Feb.

8th, a great course to learn about the wilderness and how to keep it wild, so I would recommend it to anyone who can attend. Next up is a time where we can show Wisconsin how great our troop is by doing color guard at a Marquette Basketball Game on Feb. 18th. If you are able to help, you will receive free admission to the game. Finally, to end the month, we are having an outdoors

activity at Wilmot Mountain where we will have an awesome time with snow tubing, snowboarding, and skiing. The activity will be on Feb. 21st. Please consider going to one or all of these new scout activities. See you there. ~ Victor

A Full Service Weekend

It was a full weekend of service and training for scouts of Troop 363. On Saturday Jan. 11th, five hundred cub scouts participated in BSA Potawatomi Council's Cub-O-Ree at MHS. Eighteen Troop 363 scouts helped mentor the cubbies in a variety of activities designed to fulfill requirements in a fun way to advance in cub scouts. Such areas were games and songs, outdoor hiking, whittling chip, art, knots and whipping. It was truly a blast from my past cub scout

adventures.

On Sunday Jan. 12th, fifteen scouts and six adult leaders were trained in CPR/AED lifesaving, by three Mukwonago EMT's, Zach, Lindsey, and Mark. We practiced adult, child, and infant CPR, including how to use an Automated

External Defibrillator (AED) in a four hour session. After a full morning of reviving our mannequins we all passed with flying colors! It gives us confidence that we can be in an emergency situation and help to save a life.

Electronics

Weekend Jan.

24-26

We traveled to the shores of Lake Michigan in Grant Park to have our annual planning outing. This is the only campout we are allowed electronics. Thus the name. We had a variety of game consoles to play on, also cards were played and music was shared. We welcomed our new Scouts, brothers Joey and Justin, and their dad to our troop. It was fun getting to know them and adding their expertise in scouting to our arsenal. When you see the brothers make sure to give them a hearty welcome. Saturday night was movie night and our treat was not popcorn but ice cream! Two different movies were watched one for the older scouts and one geared more for general viewing.

Electronics Con't

We had a full kitchen in the cabin and the meals were delicious. *RED ALERT*

Monday, January 27th as part of Requirement #7 of the Journalism Merit Badge, Joe, Thomas and I traveled to West Allis to meet my friend Michelle McCormack to get a tour of the Channel 58 newsroom. What an incredible 2 hours! Michelle introduced us to all the different areas that make up getting the news on air and the web every day. We listened to the various people she works with on what they do. For

example: the video editor, and Chris the web editor. We also had the opportunity to be in the control room and watch the action. But what we liked best was watching the news live from backstage! Mark McGinnis having to present the weather pointing at a green screen, Kevin Holden the sportscaster, dropping his mike backstage and trying not to laugh before his segment and watching Michelle preview what’s coming up next with possible edits before she broadcasts. Now, you may be wondering why I’m writing about Journalism MB, well I thought it would be a great way get other scouts to let us know what cool experiences they

Channel 58 con't

are having while working on their merit badges. So share your experiences guys so we know what great opportunities are waiting for us! By the way, Michelle gave us an open invite to return so if you are interested let me know! Next up for me- Chemistry MB and Oceanography MB at Discovery World! ~ Clay
