Report Notes

• Throughout this report “AUDIENCE REACH” has been quoted, which is the measurement of the total unique individuals to have watched the event on television in-home. This ensures viewers are not duplicated while providing a true measure of event penetration.

For the purposes of this report, audience reach has been based on viewers watching a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes of coverage; however various other reach conditions have also been sourced and are quoted throughout as well as shown in the “Appendix” section. The projected global reach is based on collecting the audited reach data in major measured markets around the world, which account for a wide geographic spread as well as a significant proportion of the world’s population.

This report examines only Television audiences. FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013 was

available to audiences via other media forms, such as broadband and mobile however, this report does not detail consumption figures for these other forms of media as the data cannot as yet be aggregated.

• Many markets around the world have developed accurate methodologies to measure “IN-HOME AUDIENCES” over recent years; therefore there is a higher level of available audited audiences in this report than in the previous event report.

• Where estimated audiences have been applied, a more rigorous methodology has been employed than previously, taking into account multiple variables (see “In-home data sources and methodology” section on page 10).

Audience estimates are used due to the fact that official audited audience measurement systems still do not exist in many markets around the world. For example, estimates continue to be necessary in much of Africa, the Middle East, Caribbean, Pacific Islands and smaller markets in the Asia sub-continent. In addition, many digital/subscription channels around the world either do not or are not able to measure their audiences.

Audited audience data is available in over 85 territories, which, although only representing around 40% of the territories where coverage was available, account for approximately 75% of the world population.

Executive summary

The in-home television coverage of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013 reached 205.0 million people around the world, based on viewers watching a minimum of three (3) consecutive minutes of coverage. Based on viewers watching a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes of coverage, the FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013 reached 127.5 million viewers. The previous event in Colombia, in 2011, generated high audiences in the host region / timezone, in particular, the Final match in 2011 between Brazil and Portugal. The high audiences in the host region in 2011, especially in Brazil and Colombia, were not matched in the host region of Europe in 2013.

To establish the audience reach for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013, FIFA sourced audience reach from 10 major markets.

Globally, FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013 saw a decrease in audience reach2 compared to FIFA U-20 World Cup Colombia 2011. There are two core reasons for this; firstly the timezone/location of the 2 events and secondly the success/participation of local teams. In 2011 the event took place in Colombia whilst in 2013 Turkey played hosts and it was in their respective regions where the majority of global reach2 change was seen. When looking at the total reach2 figures for these regions, it is clear to see that the decrease in audience across the Americas region between 2011 and 2013 outweighs the gains made between the two events in Europe. The relevant reach2 figures from each event are detailed in the table below (based on viewers watching a minimum of 20 consecutive minutes):

Region 2011 2013 Gain/Loss

Europe 7,628,543 21,542,654 13,914,111

North, Central America and Caribbean 55,076,754 16,330,400 -38,746,354

South America 73,328,455 48,323,521 -25,004,934

Americas Total 128,405,210 64,653,921 -63,751,289 In the 2011 host region of South America there were drops in audience reach2 in both Colombia (from 34.2 million to 20.2 million) and Brazil (from 22.5 million to 11.9) year on year. Both timezone and participation/team success were factors here. To compound the timezone effect, in 2013 Brazil did not compete in the Finals, this compares to 2011 when they progressed all the way to the Final. Again, further to the timezone impact, Colombia also performed slightly better in 2011 (along with hosting the event) when they reached the Quarter Finals, compared to the Round of 16 in 2013.

In Central America there was a drop in audience reach2 in Mexico of 24.4 million year on year (from 34.2 million to 9.8 million). The main contributing factor was again the timezone (2011 Americas – GMT-5 hours vs 2013 Europe – GMT+3). Furthermore, Mexico were knocked out at Round of 16 in 2013 compared to 2011 where they progressed to the Semi Finals, competing against other teams from the Americas, Colombia and Brazil, along their route through the knockout stages.

There were audience reach2 gains in Europe, in particular in Spain (+8.4 million), France (+2.7 million) and on Eurosport (+1.9 million) across the region, however, as shown above, these did not total as much as the decrease seen across the Americas.

In-home data sources and methodology

The majority of schedules and programming were sourced from the official television auditing agencies in markets, or in some cases directly from the FIFA “MEDIA RIGHTS LICENSEES (MRLs)”. In addition, the current household penetration figures were confirmed via the same source for the majority of MRLs, or if this was not forthcoming, from either published data or via the Kantar Media and WPP network of offices. Furthermore, audience data, where available, has been gathered for each programme directly from MRLs. However, in some cases this has also been ordered from official television auditing agencies in the market. It is worth noting that several territories have audience measurement panels which do not cover the entire territory. In such cases, the audiences are upweighted using the officially measured data in conjunction with population and television penetration information to account for the entire territory.

Where markets are able to split live coverage into pre-match, match and post-match and such coverage is of reasonable duration (more than three minutes), this has been displayed and analysed as separate highlights programming.

Where markets remain unrated, a methodology to “ESTIMATE AUDIENCES” was employed in each of the individual markets. This methodology is based on using the available data for licensees in the corresponding region as well as analysis based on a combination of the following variables:

o Household penetration of channel

o Day part (early morning, morning, lunchtime, afternoon, prime time, late evening or late night) o Type of coverage (live, delayed, repeat, highlights / magazine)

o Match (live games only)

o Stage of competition (group match / round of 16 / quarter-finals / semi-finals / final; all non-live programming)

o Analysis of individual market (i.e. whether the market has a team competing in the tournament, whether the market has a team competing in the fixture, the level of interest in football within a market, etc.)

o Comparative audiences in the region
