This is the Duplex difference:
In the days where there was no electro-nics, an asynchronous generator was needed to be able to achieve “smooth” electricity and synchronous generators to tackle “heavy” electricity.With the DUPLEX technology, the electro-nic control module adapts to the drive engine and responds correspondingly
before the engine is overloaded. Hidden power reserves can be tapped and the DUPLEX generator “pushes up” even the heaviest inductive consumers and protects even sensitive consumers from damage. In this way all the advantages of asyn-chronous and synasyn-chronous alternators are combined in a single product, and the differences are not needed anymore.
The subtle difference
Where conventional machines still have carbon brushes, which are subject to wear and tear, the ENDRESS DUPLEX system has an intelligent exciter machine. In combination with the power electronic assemblies, it marks the peak of modern power generation technology.

Why speed reduction?
Most generators do not run at constant load all the time but there are times of idling in between. Power is withdrawn as and when needed, such as when power tools are used. Today it is important to have power available on call.

What you should
know about generators
Verify prior to any start-up that the overalloutput of the unit to be connected does not exceed that of the nominal continuous output of the generator. The required information can be found on the name-plate or in the product booklet of the consumer.
Types of engines
Petrol enginesshould be considered when the mobile generator should be small and must only run for short periods at intermittent occasions.
Diesel enginesare heavier and more robust and therefore better for long run hours. Diesel engines have lower specific consumption.
When to use a high-speed and when a low-speed engine?
The correct decision.
High-speed engine (OHV petrol and diesel engines of 3000 rpm)
•
Engines for daily operation of 4 - 10 hours. Life = service life between 3000 and 5000 hrs. (e.g., building sites, craft businesses)Low-speed engines (diesel engines of 1500 rpm)
•
Engines for round-the-clock serviceLife = service life between 10000 and 20000 hrs. (e.g., electricity and emergency generators)
Start-up system
A distinction is generally made between two types of start-up systems:
1. Recoil starterto crank the engine manually via a strong pull of an automatic wind-up rope.
2. Electric startervia ignition.
At a glance
Performance data often indicate the maximum output of the engine without load on the crankshaft = SAE HP, usually at 3600 rpm. For electrotechnical reasons all high-speed engines must run at 3000 rpm. Hence, the output is lower even if no load is connected.
Therefore: Rely only on performance data that relate to 3000 rpm.
Rule of thumb:
1 HP engine output supplies maximum 0.5 kVA generator output (50%) 1 kW engine output supplies maximum 0.65 kVA generator output (65%)
Synchronous or asynchronous generators:

in consumers
Types of protection
Ohmic consumers
In this case, the consumers concerned are machines which do not require any start up current, i.e., consumers whose power consumption does not increase up to the normal operating condition in the moment of ignition. Start-up current = opera-ting current.
The consumption data of these machines can be used without making any additions.
Inductive consumers
In this case, the consumers concerned are machines which require a multiplicity of power indicated only for a short time during the moment of starting.
Particularly electric motors require 2-6 times the given value for the build up of the magnetic field as well as for the accele-ration to the working speed.

Why are they so important?
Electrical machines must be protected from moisture and dirt to be able to function properly. ENDRESS generators work to the protection measure/protection separation VDE 0100. The protection separation divides the supply line of a connected unit from the storing network. In this way a situation of a closed electric circuit can be prevented by the ground. Therefore the installation of grounding can be avoided.IP = International protection according to DIN 40050
The IP code is a two-digit number which indicates the type of protection. Reactive power
This is the difference between active power and apparent power. It provides the required start-up current - moves between generator and consumer to build up the magnetic field.
COP = Continuous power of the unit
Continuous power in full power application without a time limit.
PRP = Variable continuous power of the unit
Continuous power in a varying load operation (average 80% load within 24 hrs.) without time limit.
LTP = Limited time unit power
A maximum power which can be applied for a maximum of 500 hours per year, whereby in a variable load operation 300 hours should not be exceeded.
RCD
The RCD, also named grounding or short circuit switch, is one of the most widely used electrical safety elements that pro-tects the user from electrically loaded components if he should accidentally touch them. The electricity supply will be automatically cut off as soon as there is a loss of power towards the ground wire, e.g. from a faulty conductor. Correct grounding, to which all earth conductors of the unit are connected, is a prerequisite for the perfect functioning of the RCD.

Insulation monitoring
ENDRESS ISO makes a so-called “built grounding” unnecessary, whatever the bedding might be. Furthermore the “calibration” of this protective measure may be dispensed with. Hence operation becomes possible at any workplace without any further prepara-tions. In addition high resistance insulation defects are reliably detected and auto-matically cause the voltage to be switched off.

Why lower speed?
Most generators do not run at constant load all the time but there are times of idling in between. Power is withdrawn as and when needed, such as when power tools are used. Today it is important to have power available on call.
