MTS Communications Officer

Position:

Part Time (approx. 15 hours per week), based

in Hurstville, NSW

Remuneration:

MTS National Director

Position Context:

The Ministry Training Strategy (MTS) is an evangelical ministry committed to multiplying Gospel workers through ministry apprenticeships.

MTS recruits and trains apprentices in every state and territory of Australia. We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative person who can use their God given gifts in communications to help MTS reach its goal of recruiting and training 10,000 apprentices by 2020.

We are seeking a permanent part timer (15 hrs per week) to work as a member of the MTS team based in Hurstville, Sydney. The work hours are flexible (e.g. during school hours), however the successful applicant must work Wednesdays in order to attend the MTS Staff Meeting.

Skills and Attributes Required:

· Commitment to the Christian vision and values of MTS as contained in the MTS Doctrinal Statement (http://www.mts.com.au/our-beliefs).

· Demonstrated ability to research, plan, commission, write and edit copy at a high standard for a range of printed and electronic publications.

· Excellent written, interpersonal and oral communication skills, including a proven ability to liaise and consult with a diverse range of organizational partners.

· Helpful and friendly customer service skills – being flexible and adaptable. · Highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines under

pressure. · Proficient with:

o Microsoft Office o Twitter

Responsibilities:

MTS Publicity Strategy

· Developing, implementing and managing the MTS Publicity Strategy · The MTS Publicity Strategy is the overall Communications “blueprint” and

is the most important responsibility of the Communications Officer. The MTS Publicity Strategy determines:

o WHY we are communicating – what is the purpose of the message and what are we hoping the recipient will do as a “next action” in response

o WHAT we are communicating – the message, the content, the story

o HOW we will communicate – via what medium e.g: § Printed Material – brochures / advertising etc. § Banners

§ Webcasts § Twitter § Facebook

§ Email (Campaign Monitor) § Email

§ SMS

o WHEN we will communicate – in light of the annual schedule o To WHOM will we communicate – what cross section of the MTS

database is the message aimed at e.g:

§ MTS apprentices, MTS trainers, MTS supporters, The Wider Christian Community, Partner Organisations

Management of the MTS Website

· Content Management – keeping all information up to date · Online Registration links

· Collecting or writing monthly blogs

· Management of “Apprentices Wanted” job adverts · Online resources - uploading and updating

MTS PartnerNews

· write, edit and produce both electronic and print versions 3 times per year (Autumn, Winter, Spring) print and online

· Design the edition theme and content required · Liaise with graphic designer about layout · Collect or write stories/content

· Organise Printing (hard copy version)

· Organise Email Version (Campaign Monitor) · Grow readership

MTS Conference Publicity1 for National and NSW Events including:

· MTS Training Day 1 (for apprentices and trainers) · G8 - The MTS National Apprentice Conference · SPUR NSW (Apprentice Recruiting Conference) · Training Day 2 (for apprentices and trainers) · MTS National Apprentice Graduation (November)

· Assisting other MTS Network Coordinators around the country by sharing graphic design resources (on an ‘as needs’ basis)

Online Registration Management

· Oversee the set up of online registration (whether outsourced2 or otherwise)

for the following events:

o All Sydney Based MTS Conferences

o All MTS National Office organized conferences

o Assisting other MTS Network Coordinators around the country with online registration for their events on an ‘as needs’ basis.

Oversight of “MTS Sunday”

MTS Sunday happens on the last weekend in July every year · The goals are to:

o Encourage churches to pray for Harvest Workers (Matthew 9:38) o Encourage churches & congregation members to become MTS Partners o Exhort potential apprentices to come to the local MTS recruiting

conference

o Publicize the local apprentice recruiting conference · The responsibilities include:

o Liaise with churches to encourage them to participate in MTS Sunday o Produce and provide the resources (print and electronic) that churches

will need to participate

o Develop “next step” strategies for church members to become an MTS Partner

Relationship Management

· building cross promotional partnerships with partner organisations

o Make sure MTS is listed as a partner on their church website and vice versa

· Sydney Missionary and Bible College · The Geneva Push

· Plus many more

Conference Publicity is scheduled and coordinated in an orderly fashion as per the MTS Publicity Strategy.

Office Administration duties including:

· Database maintenance

o Updating and maintaining records o Chasing new apprentices each year o Updating the “Key Training Centres” list · Photocopying

· Preparing mail outs – stuffing envelopes and sticking on stamps · Collecting mail from the post office

· Assisting at MTS conferences (as able)

· Preparing refreshments for meetings on an as needs basis
