Please do not forget that our first MPA Brownbag of the year is tomorrow. All students and faculty are invited to attend but all first year students who are required to complete an internship are strongly encouraged to attend. Please see attached invitation.

2) MPA TAILGATE
The MPA program will host our second annual MPA Tailgate!!!! The tailgate will occur on Saturday, September 21. This is the JMU vs. UNC Charlotte game. Some have asked who am I going to root for (many know I received my doctorate from UNC Charlotte). I guess you will need to come to the tailgate to see what colors I am wearing that day...

3) OPEN ASSISTANTSHIP
I'm telling you---you all are good! The more and more people learn about the kind of student we have in our program the more and more they want you want you----this is a good thing! Dr. Maria Papdakis (Professor in ISAT) reached out to me this morning to see if I could send a student her way to serve as her graduate assistant for a grant funded project on energy policy and rebate programs. Please see the position description below. If you do contact Dr. Papadakis, please let me know.
Graduate research assistant needed to help with a major new research initiative modeling and analyzing energy policy and rebate programs. The scope of work involves background research on consumer appliance rebate programs, analyzing state energy programs, and helping to develop a database codebook. Good literature research skills are a necessity. Familiarity with types of statistical data (nominal, ordinal, interval) and descriptive statistics is highly desirable. Must be willing to learn SPSS statistical software. Familiarity with basic statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, or similar) also highly desirable. The Graduate Student Association will have their opening meeting on Sunday, October 6 from 4:00 – 5:00 in Taylor 302. GSA meetings are open and all are welcome to attend and get involved in the organization.
To continue to have an active and representative GSA, the MPA program needs a GSA representative for this year. Representatives are asked to attend the monthly meeting (five meetings total) and participate in one of the GSA subcommittees. If you have any questions about the GSA and the opportunities and commitments involved, please invite them to contact Casey Musselman ([email protected]) or AJ Good ([email protected]).
