Special conditions and limitations of using pilot
exemption certificate
The conditions and limitations listed below are in force when using a Pilot Exemption Certificate. Ref. Regulations concerning compulsory pilotage in Norwegian waters To deviate from these restrictions, exemptions must give from the actual Pilot Department/pilotmaster.

Definition of night:
Night is to be understood as the period between sundown and sunrise when shoals and small rocks are unseeable for navigational purposes, also referred to as astronomical twilight.
Conditions and limitations for the entire Norwegian coast
Military regulations Pilotage exemption certificates (P.E.C.)
only apply in waters as prescribed in Regulations governing the Entry into and Passage through Norwegian Territorial Waters in Peacetime of Foreign, Non-Military Vessels
(Regulation nr 1130 of 23 December 1994).
Regulations regarding towing operations
The Pilot exemption certificate (PEC) is not useable if the vessel is pushing or towing on or more objects, where the object or objects have a total length of 75 meters or more, or a width of 30 meters or more, or a draught of 8 meters or more.
Exceptions from the previous part: a) Certified tugs (length more than 15

meters) may use the PEC for towing floating tubes where the total length of the object is no longer than 505 meters and the width of the object is not more than 12 meters, and the draught of the object is not more than 0,5 meters. b) Certified tugs (length more than 15 meters) may use the PEC for towing fishfarms when the fishfarm or
fishfarms total length is not longer than 300 meters and the fishfarm or
fishfarms draught is not deeper than 0,7 meters.

If draft deeper than 5,5m the approach Leirpollen must be from 1 hour before high tide to 1 hour after high tide. 6. If draft deeper than 5,5m the departure Leirpollen must be from 2 hour before high tide to high tide.
