Internships at Bellefaire JCB

Bellefaire JCB offers many internship opportunities to students in the Masters Program in Counseling at JCU. Bellefaire is conveniently located next to JCU. Our internships are supervised by licensed professionals who carry a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with the student.

Areas of learning opportunities include: clinical, individual therapy, group therapy, diagnosis, assessments, prevention, treatment, case management etc. Clients range in ages (mostly up to age 21) depending on the program.

Adoption - Acting on behalf of children to help create permanency in their lives.

Foster Care - Providing children safe, homes through preparation and support.

Independent Living - Providing support and education to youth.

School Based Services -Treating clients in the schools, and after school in the After School Program.

In-Home Services - Treating clients at home including substance abuse, early start, and integrated treatment etc.

Residential Treatment –Three levels of care including intensive, intermediate, and transitional.

Prospective students should call Central Intake at 440-260-8300 to request an application for Masters level counseling Internships. (Dr. Britton also has copies of the applications). As part of the application process, the student is required to choose his/her preference of two tracts: 1. Community Mental Health: Interns will provide mental health, child welfare and/or juvenile justice services to children and adolescents in their home or school settings. The goal of these services is to positively impact client's mental health symptoms and increase his/her family support. Services are community based and can be offered in an intensive manner. Afternoon and evening availability is required. Maybe at Berea or Downtown offices.

2. Outpatient Mental Health: Interns will provide mental health counseling services to children, adolescents and adults in an outpatient office setting. Afternoon and evening availability is required. Work will take place mainly at the Berea office.

Also, there are several prac/internship slots available in the Residential Treatment Facility. This site located at Berea Children’s Home in Berea and is a Partial Hospitalization group program (PHP).

Individual, group, and family psychotherapy treating mild, moderate, and serious psychological problems and disorders in children, adolescents. They will also provide consultation to residential youth staff. They also have the option to complete formal and informal psychological assessment; crisis intervention is a component of the internship. The variety of clinical problems and concerns presented by CCH residents is extensive. These include adjustment and mood disorders, family problems and conflict, relationship concerns, anger management issues, anxiety disorders, sexual paraphilias, hyperactivity, character disorders, and at times psychoses.

All interns seeking placement must first complete an application for employment, provide three (3) references, and submit to a criminal background check which includes fingerprinting. All interns are required to receive the same training as paid staff.
