Daniela Clarke
Daniela Clarke is a freelance teacher trainer, ELT writer and ELT consultant. After graduating in English and Aesthetics, she gained an RSA DELTA, a PgCert in Education and a PgCert in Coaching (Modern Foreign Languages). She has worked in ELT since 1997, mainly in the UK as an EFL teacher, teacher trainer and subject learning coach, teaching on courses for young learners, teenagers and adults, training on the Trinity Cert TESOL and Exam Assessors Courses, and coaching teachers. She has also cooperated with Macmillan both as a teacher trainer and author. She is especially interested in the use of Interactive Whiteboards in ELT, motivational teaching strategies, and differentiated learning.

Where Do Slovaks Go Wrong?
(Dealing with specific errors to which Slovak L1 students incline)
Do your learners keep making the same mistakes? Are you concerned that their spoken or written accuracy is not improving enough? Do you wonder when to correct their mistakes and when to ignore them? In this talk we will look at common grammatical, lexical and phonological mistakes that Slovak learners repeatedly make in their productive skills. An analysis of these mistakes and their causes will lead to suggestions as to how to avoid them and help learners improve their spoken and written accuracy. Language analysis will be accompanied by practical teaching tips to assist learners in achieving more accurate expression.

Keeping Them On Board: Motivating young learners
Children are naturally curious and willing to learn, but it isn't always easy to keep their full attention. In this workshop we'll first consider what motivates young learners, followed by practical demonstrations of a variety of teaching strategies and language and skills activities that keep primary school pupils motivated throughout an English lesson.

Chalk and Cheese: Preparing a mixed ability class for the Maturita exam
The hardest lessons to teach are those where the students are of mixed levels, mixed learning abilities, or both. The teacher needs to find a balance to keep the strongest and the weakest students on board. This seminar offers ideas on how to prepare a mixed ability class for the Maturita exam whilst addressing the needs of a wide range of student abilities, sensory learning styles and levels within the class.

Effective and efficient communication is the cornerstone of successful business. This seminar aims to show how we can help learners on Business English courses improve their speaking skills with a particular focus on the use of appropriate language and soft skills needed for successful business communication.
Fiona Mauchline
Fiona Mauchline is a teacher, teacher trainer and materials writer based in western Spain, and she has worked in ELT for over 25 years. She regularly teacher-trains in Spain and other countries, and is the author or co-author of materials such as Motivate! and Using Graded Readers in the Classroom (both for Macmillan). She also writes, runs or participates in 5 blogs (including macappella and Take a photo and...), and co-curates www.eltpics.com. She doesn’t sleep much….

“Me” is for memorable, meaningful: the learner-centred classroom
Current coursebooks have moved away from the ‘describe your house/last holiday' format of earlier materials as content/culture-based learning and model texts take pole position. The content may be more challenging, but is it memorable? How do we personalise it all? Where do the ‘Me Moments’ come in? Fiona’s workshop will look at a wealth of creative, learner-centred activities to the put the ‘Me’ back into memorable and meaningful lessons for teens and adults alike.

Putting the Creative back into Writing
'I have no imagination' is a common complaint, the let-out clause for teens and adults alike, but with a gentle nudge and some fun activities that unleash a wealth of vocabulary and awake the senses as well as the imagination, not only will your students enjoy writing creatively but you'll have something interesting to read. Let the Muse begin to play.
Roisin O’Farell
Roisin O'Farrell has been teaching for more than 20 years in different parts of the world. She is currently based in Seville, Spain, where she is Head of Children's Studies at ELI. She is a teacher, teacher trainer and materials developer and she is a regular trainer for Macmillan ELT , as well as being co-author of My English Quest.

Building to communicate
As teachers, we need to optimise the opportunities that our children have to speak in class to build their communicative confidence. This workshop is full of ideas for getting your children communicating easily in English. We will begin at word level and build to sentences, use questions and answers to build dialogues, look at simple role play and the use of pictures as a source of speaking practice.

Tell me a story
Stories are an important part of childhood and a great resource for language learning. Using stories from Macmillan English Quest we will try out some basic story telling techniques to bring the stories to life in your classroom. We will look at some fun activities to practise the story, different ways of checking children's understanding and ways that children can personalise the story for themselves.
Ruth Elliott
Ruth completed an MA degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in 2011, and since then has taught English in secondary schools in Germany, Austria and Slovakia. She is currently teaching at the Bilingual Gymnazium Milan Hodzu in Sucany, and at a private language school in Martin.

Bridging the cultural gap: Going beyond the coursebook.
In this session I will be using the Irish festival of St Patrick’s Day to explore ways in which national celebrations and festivals can be used in the classroom. We will also explore the extent to which coursebooks really inform us about other cultures and consider a different side to St Patrick’s Day not covered by coursebooks.
Caroline Taylor
Caroline has an MA in Languages from the University of Oxford and has worked in ELT for several years, teaching teenagers and young adults in France and Spain, before moving back to the UK to work in ELT publishing.

Zoltan Rezmuves
Zoltán Rézműves graduated from ELTE University of Budapest. He began his teaching career in a state secondary school in Budapest in 1990, and has been involved in ELT ever since. After a career as a translator and editor of fiction, in 1999, he joined Oxford University Press (OUP). There he worked on a wide range of coursebooks, as well as testing and exam preparation materials, both print and digital, as editor and project manager? then in 2007, he was appointed Managing Editor for Central Europe and Russia. He has also been involved in teacher training since 2001, and has given seminars in over 30 countries around the world. He left OUP and set up his own publishing services company, Consonant Kiadó, in 2012, and currently works as ELT author, teacher trainer, editor and consultant.

Ready for exams, ready for life: finding the balance
How do we teach our students to communicate well in English? How do we get them ready for exam success? How can we do both at the same time? There is a balance teachers must find in order to achieve both their objectives: training effective communicators and successful exam takers. We will examine how testing tasks can be integrated into our classroom work without losing the focus on genuine skills development.

Teaching other subjects through English: true CLIL in action
English becomes a springboard for learning other subjects through the teaching of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). What exactly is CLIL? How can it help us in the English classroom? How do we incorporate CLIL content from the very early stages onwards to the dual benefit of both the language that we are teaching them and the content of the subject with which we are familiarising them? We will explore the integration of CLIL into our language teaching curriculum.
Martin Jelínek
Martin is the founder and owner of the Bright House Language Institute which focuses on teaching and learning innovation,communication and presentation skills.
Martin has 15 years of experience and has worked for private and state language schools as well as universities. His last overseas placement took him to Honduras, where he taught ESL classes at Unitec, Laureate International Universities and was voted the Teacher of the Year for 2010.
Besides running his own business, he works as an assistant lecturer at University of Presov, Institute of English and American Studies, where he teaches Speech Communication and Language Competence. Martin is also an active Cambridge Oral Examiner for the BULATS and FCE examinations.

Grenville Yeo
Executive Director and founder of SOL in 1991 an organisation set up in 1991 to support the teaching and learning of English in eastern and central Europe which it does by running courses and workshops both abroad and in its own centres in Devon. Prior to 1991 taught for 24 years in UK State schools, the last 13 years as Deputy Head of a large comprehensive in North Devon. Always valued the importance of educating students in cultural awareness.

Hidden meanings
When faced with a notice that says ‘Walking Bus’ or ‘Blind Summit’, unless it is something already familiar to the reader, the meaning may not be immediately obvious. In the UK there are many such examples and in deciphering them one learns a lot about both the culture and language of the country!! Come to this session and try your luck at deciphering these hidden meanings and learn a lot in the process.
Pavla Milerski
Pavla Milerski has over 10 years’ teaching experience, mainly in the Czech Republic and England, where she has worked as an EFL teacher, Director of Studies, teacher trainer and a Centre Manager at junior summer centres. She also works as a Cambridge Speaking Examiner for both general English exams (KET, PET, FCE, and CAE) and business English exams (BEC Vantage and BEC Higher). Pavla has a special interest in teacher training and spreading quality ELT methodology in the Czech Republic. Pavla Milerski has also been cooperating with Macmillan both in the area of teacher training and as an Educational Consultant.
