FASTING AND ABSTINENCE
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abs nence. Fridays of Lent are also days of abs nence.
FASTING is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Ea ng between meals is not permi ed, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.
ABSTINENCE is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abs nence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abs nence, the parish priest should be consulted. Fas ng, almsgiving, and prayer are the three tradi onal disciplines of Lent. The faithful should undertake these prac ces seriously in a spirit of penance and of prepara on for bap sm or of renewal of bap sm at Easter.
Dear Friends,
As you will read in this week's bulletin, Lent is coming quickly.
The Holy Season is a time of great grace! The three marks of Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As we approach the Holy Season, let's spend some time now planning ahead, praying about how we will incorporate the 3 marks into our Lenten observance.
Ask God what He wants you to do.... He will tell you!
May God grant us all a Blessed Lent, Fr. Giombetti
Registra on is required for all Masses, except for parking lot Masses. Registra on details to follow in the coming weeks.

Almighty and Merciful God, during these 40 days, let me be more aware of my dependence on You and of the needs of others and our church. By prayer, fas ng, and almsgiving allow me to repent for the sins that I have commi ed and regret any sign of contempt that I have shown towards You or my neighbor.
Let these weeks leading up to Good Friday and the glory of Your Resurrec on show me how much You suffered for me and how much You love me. Grant that these ashes remind me of my own mortality and the realiza on that only through You can I receive everlas ng life.
Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

SPECIAL
COLLECTION
This Ash Wednesday, a special collec on will be taken up for Catholic Chari es of Boston. Catholic Chari es works to serve more than 200,000 families and individuals annually throughout the Archdiocese and help put them on a path to self-sustainability. Programs including food and u lity assistance, adult educa on, temporary and transi onal housing, at-risk youth development, child care, and refugee and immigra on services provides support to individuals for their most basic needs while char ng a path to a living wage. On behalf of those we serve, thank you in advance for your generosity. For more informa on, please visit www.ccab.org.
One of the best-known and well-liked students at the local college was a 70-year old woman named Ruth. She started her college career many years ago, but dropped out to work to support her husband in medical school. Then she had children and raising them was a full time job. She signed up for classes when her youngest started college, but then a sickly grandchild needed full time nursing, and college was once again put on hold. Finally, after so many delays, she made it back to the classroom. Her motto was eloquently simple:
“Now, where was I?” Supporting others is demanding. Our own goals and dreams might be sidelined until someone else achieves, or recovers, or stands on their own. The amazing thing is that none of us are successful without such supports. Our parents, teachers, pastors, relatives, and friends give us the best part of their lives so that our life is better. We benefit from others’
generosity and love. Then, it will be our turn to give until it hurts, to love and cherish with everything we have and all that we are. Give thanks to those who helped you along the way and take a page from their book as you help those who most need you.
February 14 ~
Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time
St. Paul speaks to us clearly and succinctly in the second reading today: “whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” During the week, make this your prayer - that in all things large and small, in your words and in your ac ons, that all will be done to give glory to God. When you do that, not only will you no ce a difference in your thinking and your a tude toward others, but others will also no ce a difference in you as well.
