TOP-DOWN TRIANGULAR SHAWL // DESIGN BY CORRINA FERGUSON

MATERIALS

2 skeins SweetGeorgia Merino Silk Fine in Deep Cove (380 yds / 347 m per 3.5 oz / 100 g skein; 50% Merino Wool, 50% Cultivated Silk)

NEEDLES

Size 6 US / 4.0 mm needles. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

SKILL

Intermediate

GAUGE

16 sts and 23 rows = 4" / 10 cm in blocked body pattern. To save time and ensure accurate sizing, check gauge.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

78" / 198 cm wide by 24" / 61 cm deep

At first glance, Hadria appears to be a very complex lace shawl, but in fact, it

is based on a simple top-down shape, finished with a delicate crochet

bind-off. Lace and bud stitches are set into columns of twisted stitches.

PATTERN

Cast on 5 sts. Work the following two set-up rows:

Row 1: Sl 1, kyok 3 times, k1 tbl.

Row 2: Sl1, p9, k1 tbl.

CHART A

Work the 13 Rows of Chart A, ending with a RS Row. 53 sts.

CHART B

Work the 20 Rows of Chart B four times, starting with a WS Row and ending with a RS Row. 293 sts.

CHART C

Work the 32 Rows of Chart C once, starting with a WS Row and ending with a RS Row. Note that there are different charts for the right and left sides of the shawl for Chart C.

391 sts.

CHART D

Work the 5 Rows of Chart D once, starting and ending with a WS Row. Note that there are different charts for the right and left sides of the shawl for Chart D. 481 sts.

BIND OFF

Work the crochet bind off as follows:

Row 1: Using crochet hook *k3tog, ch6, repeat from * to 4 sts before center st, k2tog, ch6, k3tog (the center 3 sts), ch6, k2tog, *ch6, k3tog, repeat from * to end of Row.

FINISHING

Weave in ends, but do not trim. Wet block to measurements (see blocking shape schematic on the last page), using desired method. When dry, trim ends.
