Supplementary Species-specific Modules for PIL A & B – Large Animals

The RVC offers Species-specific Modules for PIL A & B courses, for Carnivores (cats, dogs, ferrets), Camelids (alpacas, vicunas, llamas,etc.), Mini-pigs, and Large Animals (horses, deer, cattle, sheep, goats and pigs). The Large Animal course has arranged dates throughout the year as below. The Carnivores, Camelids, and Mini-pig courses are arranged on demand. Please note that these supplement the basic course and are not complete courses in their own right: you will need to complete “core” PIL A & B first.

Course Modules as listed according to staff function under EU 2010/63 Article 23:

A. Module for “those performing humane euthanasia on animals”

Further information about the courses Is there an exam?

PIL A - C courses for all species are assessed by a short examination, held at the end of the appropriate module or group of modules.

Assessment for PPL is by an assignment, given out at the end of the course, to be completed and returned for evaluation.

Species-specific Modules for PIL A & B are assessed by a short examination, held at the end of the day.

What happens next?

Following successful completion of the course and assessment, a Royal Society of Biology certificate is awarded, which is used to support your Home Office Licence application. (Cost of the certificate is included in the course fee).

What’s included in the course fees? • All course materials

Online access to the RVC’s “RVCLearn” teaching website before and after course • Refreshments during the morning & afternoon breaks. Lunch is not included but the

RVC has a refectory on site.

• Royal Society of Biology Certificate - required to apply for a Personal or Project Licence.

• PIL A – C and PPL training are held at the RVC’s Camden campus in London, Royal College Street, NW1 0TU

Species-specific Modules for PIL A & B are usually held at RVC’s Hawkshead campus, Herts, AL9 7TA. Carnivore courses are also held at RVC Camden. • Modules and additional staff training can also be held on site at your own Institution.
