Create and manage your Reading Lists

Reading Lists makes it easy to create, manage and evaluate your subject readings by:

collating all subject readings in one place;

• organising the readings to complement the subject delivery schedule - by week, topic or module;

• allowing you to collaborate with colleagues to build a reading list that can be used by all cohorts;

• allowing you to reuse a reading list from session to session; and

collecting analytics such as full-text views to assess student engagement.

Create your list

Start by clicking on the + New List button;

The title section should consist of your subject name and number e.g. “240710 Digital Consumer Behaviour”. Add a description (not required) and select Create.

Choose a template

We have created several templates for you to select or you can select Blank and create your own.

Adding Library resources

You can search directly in the UTS Library catalogue

Search by title, author or keyword and a list of search results will appear.

Note that the search will display the format, location, and availability of each result.

To add and item to your list, simply click and drag it into the section you would like it to appear in.

Electronic items will have the status of complete immediately whereas print items will have the status “Being Prepared”.

Adding Web Resources

You can add in resources from the web by using the Cite IOt! Widget.

To install Cite It on your browser, click on your username in the top right hand corner and select ‘Cite It!’ from the drop down menu.

Here you can see the list of all the sites supported by the widget. This list gets updated on a regular basis.

To install, drag and drop the ‘CITE IT!’ link to your browser’s toolbar.

Using Cite It!

• Go to the webpage or video you wish to add and click the Cite It button on your bookmark bar

• Select which list or section you wish to add it to and press Add & Close • The citation will now be listed in your Reading List

Manually adding your own citation

Select Add Item and then select the Create tab.

• Fill in the Citation details including the title and author

Select the type of source from the drop-down menu

Add the source for the citation (e.g. for web content - URL)

• Select the section of your list you want to place the citation

Statuses

A citation will have one of the following statuses:

• Being Prepared - The initial status when you are preparing your list.

Ready for Processing – You have sent the citation (or the entire list) to the library for processing.

In Process – Library staff have begun working on a citation.

• Complete – Library staff have finished preparing the citation and it is ready. • Declined - The library was unable to fulfill the request.

Deleting items from your list

To delete an item from your list:

Click the ellipses icon next to the resource • Select “Delete item” from the drop-down menu.

Editing your list

To move an item in your list to a new position or section: • hover over the item

• click and hold the blue panel • drag the item to the new location

To add a new section to your list: • click the New Section button

• enter the title and description of the new section • Select the Create button

Your new section will appear in your list. You can now click and drag it to the desired position.

To edit the information in a section or to delete it. Click the drop-down menu in its title banner

Editing individual items on your list: you can edit the information of an individual item by clicking on its title to open it.

Select the Edit button to edit publication information in the Edit Item window then the Save button once the changes are complete.

Tags

In the Add Tags box you can select from various tags that indicate the nature or importance of the item e.g., “recommended” or “required”.

Using Tags

Tags are useful tools to indicate to students the nature or importance of an item. You can use a single tag or multiple tags. Students can filter lists by their tags to view only items labelled that tag.

Due dates

Click the Calendar icon in the Due Date section to set a date to the item.

This will be visible to students and can be used to inform them of when their reading is due.

Notes

Public Notes are visible to students and can be used to communicate

information, tips, or instructions

Private Notes can only be seen by you and your collaborators to use as reminders, observations, or points to be noted

Sending and Publishing your List

To complete your list, you will send it to the Library to be reviewed then publish it for your students to view.

Sending your list to be reviewed by the Library allows them to view and work on your list if necessary.

The Library Discussion box allows you to leave notes, questions and comments for the library to see when they receive your list.

Once you have entered your comments, click the ‘send to library’ button and the list will be sent

Publishing your list

Select the ellipses icon next to the list title and from the drop down menu; select Publish.
