CEREC users

“I always let my patients watch the design process. If there is one thing that demonstrates just how modern my dental practice is, then it‘s CEREC. And now even more with CEREC 4.0 software.”

“CEREC Biogeneric creates customized restorations for each individual patient. No tooth database is capable of this. In the past I spent ten minutes designing a restoration. Now, I need only three minutes.”

“I rely on modern technology when I want precision. And CEREC is precise: it does precisely what I want.”

“I‘m not joking: since I‘ve been working with CEREC patients even ask me when they can have their next appointment. Previously it was me doing the asking.”

“With CEREC I can create genial designs to exact individual require-ments – at any time. I control the entire process. Now I have become a dental ‘recréateur’.”

“I could tell you a lot about the CEREC system, but you should really experience it ‘live in action’. Afterwards, you will not want to treat your patients any other way. That is for sure.”

“I have created various conventional and digital bridges in parallel – the fit of the CEREC Connect restorations was astonishingly good. And I am not normally so easy to impress.”

“Combining CEREC with the data from the GALILEOS 3D X-ray unit was the best thing that Sirona could have done. This has created an integrated platform for reliable implant planning.”

CEREC – system competence

CEREC chairside:

One visit dentistry.

CEREC today.

Much more than just

a CAD/CAM system.

Are you ready to adopt new technology? The CEREC system certainly is too. It has long since progressed from being a CAD/CAM solution for single-tooth res-torations and become a platform for modern digital treatment procedures. You can work on several resto-rations simultaneously, place implants even more safely than ever before and send large restorations to your preferred dental lab via Internet. Welcome to the future of your dental practice.

Fast and flexible

A fractured anterior crown the day before the patient goes on holiday? No problem for both CEREC and you to demonstrate your capabilities in such a situation.

Proven

Independent scientific studies have con-firmed that CEREC restorations “are com-parable to gold in terms of their long-term performance”.

Patient-friendly

One treatment session; conserving healthy tooth tissue; without a temporary and with outstanding aesthetics. No wonder more than 98% of all patients rate the treatment results as “very good” or “good”.

Cost-effective

In its role as a “crown machine” CEREC makes a major contribution to modern patient care and to the financial well- being of your dental practice.

Pioneering

Successfully place more implants with CEREC? The combination of CEREC and 3D X-ray data give the necessary prosthetic and surgical security.

Image acquisition with CEREC AC and CEREC Bluecam

Impression tray or CEREC Bluecam? Gordon Boyle always leaves this decision up to his patients. Almost all of them opt for the CEREC Blue-cam. “Many simply cannot believe how quickly treatment can be perfor-med.” He too is thrilled with the outcome: satisfied patients, a newly motivated practice team and natural-looking aesthetic results. His family is not quite as euphoric. “They are fed up with me constantly enthusing about CEREC,” Gordon Boyle admits with a smile.

Dr. Gordon Boyle, started using CEREC in 2010. He has a small practice with 140 m² of floor space, a team of nine employees and performs six CEREC cases per week.

“If only I had known earlier, how easy

it would be to inspire my patients.”

Digital impressions with CEREC Bluecam:

Precision and ease of use redefined.

The camera is the very core of the CEREC AC. Its innovative optical system CEREC Bluecam sets new standards in precision. This un-precedented degree of accuracy* comes from the powerful blue light-emitting diode with a short wavelength. CEREC Bluecam is easy to operate. First-time users can immediately achieve exceed-ingly precise impressions. The compact camera can be placed directly on the teeth permitting efficient working even in the posterior cavity.

n Automatic image capture

The camera automatically detects the right moment to trigger the exposure. Simply move the CEREC Bluecam step by step over the relevant area. In this way you can acquire complete quadrants in the shortest possible time.

n Shake-free images

The short capture time combined with the built-in shake detec-tion system ensures that images are acquired only when the camera is held absolutely still. The CEREC software automati-cally selects the best data for the 3D model.

n Outstanding depth of field

You can either place the CEREC Bluecam directly on the tooth with the aid of the camera support, or capture the images leav-ing a small clearance between camera and tooth surface. In both cases the parallel light beam and high depth of field deliver excellent image quality.

* Accuracy of ± 19 µm – the result of a study by Professor Mehl, Zurich University 2008.

The benefits of CEREC Bluecam

n Precise: due to short-wavelength blue light n Easy: thanks to automatic exposure control n Fast: a half-jaw impression can be captured

in less than one minute

n Uninterruptible power supply (optional)

This allows you to temporarily transfer your CEREC AC to a second treatment room while milling is still in progress. You can then immediately start acquiring further digital impressions. Data can also not be lost during a brief power cut.

Design using CEREC 4.0 software

“Each patient and each prosthetic restoration

is different. It is really important to be

prepared for every eventuality.”

Design using CEREC 4.0 software:

Enjoy more creativity.

The best restorations are the result of teamwork between your expertise and our software. The CEREC software is tailored exactly to the requirements of dental professionals following many years of development experience. Using the new intuitive user interface of CEREC software 4.0, you do not require any special computer skills in order to create perfect restorations in just a few easy steps. The transparent workflow puts the right functions at your fingertips at all times. This allows you to work intuitively and directly on the 3D tooth model to create natural occlusions with a single click.

n Intuitive user interface

The user interface is clearly structured and employs self-explanatory icons. You always know where you are in the streamlined design process and are guided step by step. Only the appropriate design tools are displayed that you need at any given time.

n Natural occlusions with a single click

CEREC Biogeneric has revolutionized occlusal design. With a single mouse click this patented process reconstructs the patient‘s individual tooth morphology. CEREC Biogeneric can be used for all types of restorations – crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays, as well as full anatomical temporary bridges.

The benefits of the new user interface n Clearly structured with self explanatory icons n Maximum control over each processing step n Clear and intuitive navigation

n Easy to use, particularly for new users

Elsa Bettoni’s working day starts at eight o‘clock in the morning. Numerous treatment procedures e.g. crowns have already been scheduled and will be performed routinely using the CEREC system. But most of all she looks forward to unplanned, complex cases where she has to think quickly – and come up with the right solution. Elsa Bettoni is then in her element – all the more so now that she has the CEREC 4.0 software at her fingertips. It allows her to design and adapt several restorations simulta-neously. This is a major advantage for her – and for her patients too. Dr. Elsa Bettoni has been a CEREC user since her postgraduate training under Professor Mörmann at Zurich University. A CEREC instructor since 2005, she opened her own CEREC practice in 2010.

n Direct modification on the tooth

The CEREC 4.0 software facilitates the easy editing of the virtual restoration. Simply click and hold down mouse button, move the mouse – and the job is done. You work directly and intuitively on the tooth and are in full control of the process at all times.

n Multiple restorations

Depending on the given treatment situation, you can work simultaneously on several different restorations. When performing a complete anterior reconstruction, for example, you have the option to design veneers, crowns and bridges in parallel. The design tools can be applied to contralateral teeth in two different quadrants. This produces highly aesthetic results – and delighted patients.

Also fascinating for your patients: watching the virtual tooth being modified.

Design using CEREC Biogeneric

CEREC Biogeneric:

Natural occlusions with a single click.

“Does CEREC Biogeneric

work on Japanese teeth?”

The CEREC chairside process: acquire, define – and the job is done

1 Acquire the preparation and antagonist with CEREC Bluecam.

The bite registration is captured by a buccal impression. If information is missing it can be acquired subsequently anytime.

2 Define the preparation margin with just a few clicks – the

software helps you to mark the margin and supports you with a rotatable 3D view.

3 Done: the biogeneric initial proposal with customized natural

occlusal contacts is generated in the software automatically.

4 Prior to milling the restoration is visualized in the block to

optimize the aesthetics.

The analysis of the genetic information stored in the patient‘s own dentition produces natural occlusions in just a few seconds, combined with the security that this is a patented process. It sounds like science fiction, but with CEREC it is very simple. Acquire a digital impression, define the preparation margin, click and CEREC Biogeneric takes care of everything else. This unique

software tool enables you to create customized, patient individual restorations on a sound scientific basis. And best of all, the design process is identical for all indications – inlays, onlays, veneers, crowns and full anatomical temporary bridges. CEREC Biogeneric is the fast and simple solution for customized natural restorations in every clinical situation.

The benefits of CEREC Biogeneric

n Unique scientifically based patented process

n Tooth morphology can be derived from any available

reference tooth

n Customized patient restorations with a single click n Identical design procedure for all indications

Tomoko Takeda is not surprised that her colleagues repeatedly ask this question. “It is a question I have asked myself,” she confirms. The existing tooth databases proved to be unsuitable for her Japanese patients, resulting in extensive reworking of the restorations. By contrast, the biogeneric design proposals delivered by the CEREC software are astoundingly good. “I never imagined that the software could be so patient individual,” Dr. Takeda says before turning to her next patient, whose tooth anatomy will also be decoded within just a few seconds.

Dr. Tomoko Takeda opened her own practice in 1987. She works with two treatment units, employs one dentist and became a CEREC user in 2005. She treats an average of two CEREC cases per day.

You can find out more about the basic principles of CEREC Biogeneric in the interview with Prof. Albert Mehl available on: www.sirona.com/biogeneric

Milling with CEREC MC XL

I had wanted to work with CEREC since my time at university. And also my patients prefer not to bite down on unpleasant impression material. Only Josef Kopping, the dental technician in my in-house lab remained skeptical, until one of his pressed inlays suddenly frac-tured. Thanks to CEREC I was able to resolve this problem immedia-tely. We three – CEREC, Josef Kopping and I – now work as a perfect team together. Our objective is always to provide defect-oriented treat-ment while conserving as much natural tooth tissue as possible.” Dr. Bernhild-Elke Stamnitz started using CEREC when she set up her dental practice in 2004. She employs one dentist, has her own dental lab and performs up to six resto-rations per day

“I prefer to mill ceramic

instead of my patients’

natural teeth. This

corresponds to our

treatment concept.”

Milling with CEREC MC XL:

Everything fits together perfectly.

The benefits of CEREC MC XL n Milling accuracy of 25 µm

n High-speed milling coupled with optimum precision,

e.g. crowns can be completed in just 5 to 10 minutes

n A genuine all-rounder:

One machine caters for all indications (inlays, onlays, crowns, veneers and temporary bridges) and materials (feldspar/glass ceramics, lithium disilicate, and zirconium oxide). And in future: the CEREC surgical guide*.

* CEREC Guide available from the beginning of 2012.. n CEREC MC XL: precise, fast and versatile

The CEREC MC XL delivers professional, long-lasting results in just a few minutes. It mills restorations with a textbook accuracy of ± 25 µm. The clearly laid-out control panel and colored status illumination ensure optimum ease of use.

n The CEREC 3 milling unit: compact, proven and

competitively priced

In terms of capacity and speed the CEREC 3 milling unit is the ideal solution for single-tooth restorations e.g. inlays, onlays, partial crowns, crowns and veneers. It offers proven perfor-mance with compact dimensions.

In-house milling is a cost-effective option

Did you know that you can mill a crown in just ten minutes and incur production costs of only € 30. This is the typical cost for a

practice in Germany. That means more time for your patients and more profit for your dental practice.

All the components of the CEREC system fit together perfectly – from the acquisition of the digital impression to the milling of the final restoration. The user-friendly CEREC 4.0 software, the fully automated milling process, the clinical benefits of all-ceramic materials, complete treatment in a single session as well as positive

feedback from patients – all these factors combine to maximize your job satisfaction. And if you decide to install the milling unit in your reception room, you will create a real talking point and focus of interest.

CEREC indications and materials

Eleven months have passed since Stéphane Kassel first used CEREC to replace an amalgam filling on a patient – his assistant. He now works with CEREC on a daily basis. He recalls an unforgettable incident involv-ing the local mayor, who came to the practice with a fractured front tooth just a few hours before an important ministerial visit. Stéphane Kassel was able to treat this problem immediately and the mayor left the practice feeling very happy and relieved. “I have big plans for CEREC,” Stéphane Kassel concludes, “and my initial investment has already paid off.” Dr. Stéphane Kassel qualified in 1995 and started his own dental practice in 2005. He began using CEREC in 2010, has two treatment rooms plus a further one for surgical procedures (implantology).

“News of CEREC has spread

fast. Particularly since the

incident with the mayor.”

CEREC indications and materials:

So convincing and versatile.

Create your own in-house practice lab

n You can upgrade CEREC to a practice lab system with a low

additional investment.

n The inLab software caters for the complete spectrum

of indications. You can mill up to 12 unit bridges on your CEREC MC XL.

n Sinter full anatomical zirconium oxide bridges in less than

two hours with inCoris TZI blocks and inFire HTC speed furnace.

n CEREC materials geared to the highest demands

Renowned manufacturers produce top-quality materials for the CEREC system: enamel-like feldspar and glass ceramics, cementable lithium disilicate and high-performance polymers cover the entire spectrum of indications. These materials are tooth-conserving, biocompatible, clinically proven and long-lasting.

Further information about the CEREC CAD/CAM materials can be found on on: www.sirona.com/cerec-material

n CEREC aesthetics meet the highest demands

A simple polishing suffices to make the polychromatic ceramic restorations mimic the shading and translucency of a natural tooth. In addition, each restoration can be individually stained and glazed in just a few minutes. CEREC delivers aesthetic results to meet every demand – and every patient.

CEREC chairside opens up completely new possibilities: inlays, on-lays, veneers, partial or full anatomical crowns and temporary bridges – created and placed during a single treatment session! This results in optimum indication flexibility, particularly in difficult situations. Regardless of what challenges await you, CEREC is always the win-win option, delivering minimally invasive treatment,

customized aesthetics and a sound return on investment. This is true both now and in the future. The CEREC system is undergoing continuous development and can be successively upgraded. For example, it will soon be possible to create surgical guides on your CEREC system. CEREC Guides will be available from the beginning of 2012.

CEREC Connect

In his role as a dentist and in his private life as well, Gregor Findeis pays close attention to the details. So it is not surprising that he closely scrutinized the extended possibilities offered by CEREC Connect. His conclusion: “For me CEREC Connect is the ideal complement to CEREC chairside –for example when creating 5 unit bridges. I acquire the digital impressions with CEREC Bluecam for my dental technician. The precise result is fantastic.”

Dr. Gregor Findeis has a rural practice and began using CEREC in 1999. He registered with CEREC Connect at the beginning of 2010. His preferred dental lab is located a distant. 250 kilometers away.

An extended interview can be found on: www.sirona.com/cerec-inspired

“It’s essential to know

what you are doing.

Particularly, when working

on a 5 unit bridge.”

CEREC Connect.

The perfect counterpart to CEREC.

The benefits of CEREC Connect for CEREC users

n Ideal for all framework-supported single-tooth restorations

and bridges e.g. made from zirconium oxide, precious and non-precious metals

n Ideal for aesthetically layered anterior restorations from a

dental lab

n Ideal for high-strength cementable lithium disilicate

posterior crowns.

There are no limits to CEREC’s capabilities – even when you cannot do it by yourself. CEREC AC users already know and appreciate the advantages of digital impressions. So why not harness the proven precision of CEREC in order to streamline the working relationship with your external dental lab? For example send orders for complex multiple-unit bridges via Internet on the CEREC Connect web portal directly to your preferred dental lab. Enjoy the best of both worlds – with CEREC Connect and CEREC.

The CEREC Connect process – an example with a bridge 1. Digital impression acquired with CEREC Bluecam and CEREC Connect software

2. Definition of the preparation margins and pontics (optional)

3. Transmit the model data and the digital “order form” to the dental lab via the CEREC Connect portal. This takes just a few minutes. Direct communication between the dentist and dental technician about the details of the digital 3D model avoids potential errors.

4. CEREC chairside production of a temporary bridge 5. Production of the final bridge in the external dental lab 6. Delivery to your dental practice

Integrated implantology

In Carlo Raimondo’s opinion dentistry should never stand still. “It all began with CEREC 3D. That was love at first sight.” As soon as this system was up and running, he banished impression materials from his practice. When GALILEOS 3D X-ray was launched, his response was: “That’s something I must have!” Since then he has not placed any implant with-out having first captured CBCT images. He could hardly wait for ‘CEREC meets GALILEOS’. “It was the best thing that Sirona could have done. This has closed the circle for reliable implant planning.”

Dr. Carlo Raimondo started using CEREC in 2003 and acquired the GALILEOS 3D X-ray system in 2007. He works closely with his dental technician, Andrea Sartor, and places approx. 300 implants per year.

An extended interview can be found on: www.sirona.com/cerec-inspired

“CEREC has changed my way

of thinking more than once.

Now again with implant therapy.”

Integrated implantology with CEREC.

From the implant to the final prosthetic restoration with CEREC

The CEREC and inLab systems cater for all stages of the implant process. From polymer temporaries during the healing phase; cus-tomized zirconium oxide abutments or the final prosthetic crown. The choice is yours. And in all cases the entire added value remains in-house.

Further information about integrated implantology can be found on: www.integrated-implantology.com

Combine CEREC digital impressions and computer-aided design with the diagnostic security of Sirona’s 3D X-ray systems for genu-ine integrated implantology. It is now possible to perform surgical and prosthetic planning simultaneously – and then implement this plan precisely using a surgical guide. This is ideal for all who want

to place more implants in future – or those who want to provide implant therapy for the first time. You save time and money with fewer treatment sessions and achieve significant efficiency gains with a streamlined workflow. And last but not least, you can show your patients what the final result will look like.

CEREC today

The CEREC system: Learning by doing.

“CEREC is best experienced live.”

Clinically secure

CEREC is one of the most intensively researched dental procedures – as evidenced in more than 250 clinical studies worldwide. There are countless other scientific publications dealing with the system and methodology – and their number continues to grow. Here are some extracts from the key studies:

n An eighteen-year study of 1,011 inlays/onlays concluded:

“Even large CEREC restorations display outstanding longevity. In many cases, defect-oriented restorations and careful adhe-sive bonding provide the basis for dispensing with full crowns.”

Source: Reiss, B., Eighteen-Year Clinical Study in a Dental Practice (2006)

n A comparative study of the longevity of CEREC inlays and

gold restorations concluded: “In terms of longevity, CEREC inlays are on a par with gold restorations. Laboratory-fabricated ceramic restorations examined in this study were inferior in this respect.”

Source: Arnetzl, G., Different Ceramic Technologies in a Clinical Long-term Com-parison (2006)

n A comparative study of restoration quality established

that “Chairside-produced CEREC inlays have less risk of devel-oping enamel cracks in the treated tooth as there is no tempo-rary.”

Source: Frankenberger, R., Chairside and labside produced ceramic inlays - Influence of temporaries and bonding on the enamel integrity and margin quality. (2008)

What aspect of CEREC is most interesting to non-users?

The accuracy of the fit. I recommend they experience a live CEREC live demonstration. As a rule this resolves any remaining clinical concerns. When did you decide in favor of CEREC?

I became interested in CEREC during my postgraduate residency. The actual ‘decision’ simply followed on from that – though it was something I had really set my heart on.

How important are scientific studies for you?

Very important. I always want to do my best, but I also want to do what is verified as the best.

What has been the most significant development since you started using CEREC? The gratitude shown by my patients, I would say. For many of my patients CEREC treatment is something special. Some even embrace me spontane-ously afterwards. And that doesn’t happen very often to a dentist!

Reading or hearing about CEREC is helpful and informative, of course. But CEREC simply has to be experienced “live” if you want to grasp its full fascination. See for yourself and attend one of the many “CEREC live” events staged in dental practices, or else visit your local CEREC dealer for a demonstration.

Further studies can be found on: www.sirona.com/cerec-studies

Dr. Michael Maier began using CEREC in 1998 and opened his own dental practice in 2005. He regularly invites colleagues to attend live CEREC treatment sessions at his practice.

Epilogue

“What would your practice

be like without CEREC?”

It is a familiar story: you only recognize the true value of some-thing when it is no longer there. To find out how highly users rate their CEREC systems we asked a simple question: “If CEREC did

not exist, what would this mean for your dental practice?” The eight dentists featured in this brochure thought carefully about this scenario. Here are their answers:

The complete interviews can be found on: www.sirona.com/cerec-inspired

“Not having a CEREC would be like not having a computer. I cannot imagine it anymore. It is a part of me and my practice.”

Dr. Tomoko Takeda, Japan

“My first thought: give me my CEREC back! Working without CEREC and without integrated implantology is simply impossible. There is for me no alternative: I cannot, and will not, do without CEREC!”

Dr. Carlo Raimondo, Italy

“First of all, my work would be a lot less enjoyable. I really like using CEREC. For me it is a relaxing, stress-free method of treatment. Without CEREC my daily routine would definitely be much more complicated: scheduling appointments, additional patient sessions, more treatment steps with more room for error, and so on ...”

Dr. Michael Maier, Germany “Of course, I would still cope without CEREC. I managed to cope in the

past. But why on earth would I want to do without CEREC? I have only just decided in favor of this system.”

Dr. Stéphane Kassel, France

“It would impose severe limitations. Working without CEREC – and I know this from my own experience – is a lot less fun. Above all, I would miss the opportunity to decide what‘s best for each patient.”

Dr. Elsa Bettoni, Switzerland

“I honestly would hate to think. It would be a catastrophe as I have become so dependent on it. Sometimes I ask myself, why I didn’t invest in CEREC much earlier.”

Dr. Gordon Boyle, United Kingdom

“Financially this would be a major setback. I generate a large proportion of my prosthetic revenue with CEREC and CEREC Connect. And if I could no longer provide such a range of indications and chairside treatment, I would run the risk of losing those patients who come to me specifically because of CEREC.”

Dr. Gregor Findeis, Germany “This is not something I want to think about. I have so many future plans and look forward to the new developments and changes. My workload would definitely increase. Above all, I would not be able to put my personal treatment ideas into practice as I can now. Technology fascinates me when it functions properly. And that’s exactly what CEREC does.”
