Installation steps for the new ActiveX control.

In order to support Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Acusis is releasing a new ActiveX control. Since Acusis has not released a new ActiveX control in the last few years some users may be

unfamiliar with the process which is explained in this document.

The ActiveX control will try to automatically download when a user attempts to edit a transcript for the first time. The screenshots below detail what the user will see and the steps to follow to get the new ActiveX control installed.

NOTE: eTranscribe currently works only with Internet Explorer versions 5.5 or above.

NOTE: If the user does not see the same screens and prompts as explained below, your security settings may be too strict for the download to occur. Please refer to the section “eTranscribe Security Settings and Troubleshooting” which follows this section.

1.

Once you log in to eTranscribe and open a transcript for viewing, a new window opens

up with a yellow bar at the top prompting to run an Add on

(2)

2.

This message momentarily flashes and the second screen appears, click on the yellow

bar and select "Install this Add-on"

3.

This brings up the pop-up window to install the eTranscribe editor. You need to click

Install

4.

On the same screen you will see a second pop-up window, the install RichTx32, click

Install

(3)

5.

The following window appears with the installation progress bar.

eTranscribe Security Settings and Troubleshooting.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5/ 6.0/ 7.0/8.0 on Windows 98, NT, 2000, ME, XP or 2003 or Vista is recommended for use with eTranscribe. The use of other operating systems and browsers may cause instabilities when using eTranscribe.

Security Settings.

The default security setting for Internet Explorer is "High", then eTranscribe will not work. Make sure that the security settings are always "Medium" / "Medium- High" or "Medium-Low".

If your machine configuration matches the description above and you still experience problems downloading the eTranscribe ActiveX control, change the "Security settings for the IE

browser" below for configuring individual security settings.

(Alternatively, you can use the non-ActiveX option for viewing transcriptions. However, this is possible only if you have MS Word installed in your machine).

1.

If, even after you change the security settings of your browser, the problem persists, check the following.

To install the ActiveX control in your machine, the logged in user should have adequate privileges in the system.

2.

The firewall settings in your network may block the download of ActiveX controls. (Please Note: The ActiveX control provided with eTranscribe is secure and digitally signed by Verisign.)

3.

Some of the windows components are required for the eTranscribe ActiveX controls to function properly

If these conditions are satisfied, yet the download problem continues, please contact our customer service team.

Security settings for the IE browser

For automatic downloading and proper working of the ActiveX control, the following security settings in the IE browser should be enabled.

(5)

 Click on "Security" tab in the Internet Options window.  Click the "Custom Level" button.

(6)

The Security Settings window will appear as shown:

The security settings can be configured by selecting the drop down menu next to "Reset to" option and select either “Medium" or "Medium- High" or "Medium-Low".

Once the "Reset to" option is set and the user clicks on "Reset" button, the default security settings of the browser will be applied to "Settings".

(7)
(8)

 Click “Enable” on "Run ActiveX control and plug-in" option.

(9)

 Click “Enable” on "Automatic prompting for file download" and "File download" options.

For Internet Explorer 7.0/8.0:

 Click “Enable” on "Allow previously unused ActiveX controls to run without prompt" option as shown:

(10)

After changing the settings, click "OK" to close the security settings window.

For Internet Explorer 8.0 ONLY:

There is a new security feature added to Internet Explorer 8.0 called “Only Allow Approved Domains to Use ActiveX Controls without Prompt” for ActiveX controls to restrict the access of ActiveX control in different domains. By default this security feature is enabled, if this feature is enabled then the play audio option will not work.

We can change this security setting from enabled to disabled to make the Play Audio option work by following the below steps:

Please Note: You will have to make sure that the security settings explained under IE 7.0 is done before accessing eTranscribe in IE 8.0.

The procedure below is an additional security setting to be done in IE 8.0 to make the play audio option work.

(11)

 Click on "Security" tab in the Internet Options window.  Click the "Custom Level" button.

(12)

The Security Settings window will appear as shown:

 Click “Disable” on "Only Allow Approved Domains to Use ActiveX Controls without Prompt" option.

 Click on “OK” button.

 A warning window will pop up to ensure if you want to change the settings for this zone.

(13)

If we have not disabled “Only Allow Approved Domains to Use ActiveX Controls without Prompt” security feature in the ActiveX security settings (Procedure explained above).

Then when you open the editor window a message which reads “This website wants to run the following add-on: „Window media player Extension‟ from „Microsoft Corporation‟. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here” will be displayed.

Click on the message displayed or right click on the message bar. A list of options will be displayed as shown in the screen shot below:

(14)

Click on “Run Add-on” option from the list.

A pop up window will appear, click on “Run” button to run the ActiveX control, else click on “Don’t Run” button.

(15)

User privilege on your system:

If you are running Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003, you may not have permission to install software. Only users with "power user" or "administrator" privileges can install software.

To check, please try the following: Press the Start button and go to: Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. In the file tree, select System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Groups. In the right hand panel, double click on Administrators group and see if your username is listed. If it is, you have administrative privileges. In other case contact your network administrator.

Firewall settings.

Although it may appear that you have lost your Internet connection, it could be that the firewall is preventing necessary files from being downloaded. Firewall is set up by your network

administrator or ISP (Internet Service Provider) to block certain files from being downloaded. If this occurs, please contact your network administrator or your ISP customer support.
