GENERAL POLICIES

If material appears to be defective, the customer shall attempt to process the material as usual. If the material appears to have numerous imperfections or defects af

-ter a minimum of 10% has been processed, the customer may then suspend production and notify AHMSA, and a technical service representative will arrange to inspect the material.

The customer shall notify AHMSA of any technical or ad

-ministrative claims via www.ahmsa.com or customer ser

-vice representative. Once a claim has been initiated, the Sales and Technical Service departments will be notified in order to seek resolution.

AHMSA shall not be held responsible for certain claims arising from the oxidation of our products. Discoloration and staining is inherent from the presence of atmospheric humidity and the collection of condensation in transit. Be

-cause of the reactivity of steel, oxidation may be present between the layers in coils or between bundled sheets. AHMSA shall not be held responsible for the following oxi -dation claims:

1. When material is ordered without oil (dry) or without a suitable surface treatment.

2. When orders specify packaging with less than AHMSA’s approved minimum level of protection.

3. When the steel is stored outdoors, or if left unprotected against moisture or sudden temperature changes.

Note: If upon delivery the steel coil temperature is below the warehouse temperature, the customer shall not unpack the material until the coil temperature equalizes with the warehouse.

A variation up to +/- 1% of the scale weight per invoiced shipment shall be allowed between the customer and AHMSA, before a claim may be initiated.

Will be considered in the following cases:

1. Upon delivery, all items have immediately been inspec

-ted for the presence of moisture in the package. 2. If moisture in the packaging is present at the time of

delivery, an annotation must be made in the delivery log while in the presence of the carrier. AHMSA sales must then be notified immediately.

3. Before the material is delivered to the customer or the customer’s contracted carrier.

For material that is picked up by the customer, the claim must be made to the customer’s contracted carrier. AHMSA sales must then be notified immediately.

quality the hot-rolling process may produce material with scale and surface oxidation.

AHMSA guarantees the surface of the hot rolled coil to be 98% free from defects such as: mechanical marks, scratches, scale, laminations, flakes or cracks that do not affect the thickness tolerance. For special requirements, a production feasibility study shall be required.

Flatness 6 months Hot rolled steel coils that have not been skin passed are guaranteed to meet

50% of the ASTM A-568 & A-635 standard. See the Flatness tolerance informa-tion listed in Table 13.8 of this manual.

45 days Skin passed, hot rolled steel coils are guaranteed to have a maximum of 1/4” wave height per meter. The 5 meters at the outer end of the coil and the 10 meters at the inner end of the coil are not covered by this guarantee (Head &Tail ends of coil). Dimensional 6 months Thickness: guaranteed to meet 50% of the ASTM A-568 and A-635 tolerances

tolerances in 98% of the length of the coil. The remaining 2% length of coil shall be within 100% of the tolerance standards.

Width (mill edge): guaranteed to be -0”/+0.500” of specification, in 98% of the length of the coil. The remaining 2% length of coil shall be within 100% of ASTM A-568 tolerance

Telescoping Until Permissible Ranges: Maximum telescope of 2”, maximum coil misalignment of

& alignment received 1”, and coil misalignment for HSLA of 1.5”.

Hot rolled steel coils that are not pickled (dry) are manufactured with a mill edge in thicknesses from 0.059” to 0.500” and widths from 29” to 63.750”. Specific grade sizes can be referenced in size tables 1 through 5 of this section.

The surface finishes of hot rolled coils are semi-smooth and may have oxidation. Hot rolled coils are used for structural applications or where the surface quality is not critical. The typical applications of AHMSA steel coils include heavy machinery wear parts, crossties, pipes, and tubes.

When the application requires a quality surface finish or painting, such as in the automotive industry, pickling or another cleaning process should be performed by the customer, or the customer should consider purchasing AHMSA’s pickled steel coils. PRODUCT GUARANTEE TABLE, HOT ROLLED COIL (HOR)

to meet 50% of the ASTM A-568 & A-635 standard. See the Flatness tolerance information listed in Table 13.8 of this manual.

45 days Skin passed, hot rolled steel coils are guaranteed to have a max-mum of 1/4” wave height per meter. The 5 meters at the outer end of the coil and the 10 meters at the inner end of the coil are not covered by this guarantee (Head &Tail ends of coil).

Dimensional 6 months Thickness: guaranteed to meet 50% of the ASTM A-568 and A-635 tolerances tolerances in 98% of the length of the coil. The remaining 2% length

of coil shall be within 100% of the tolerance standards. Width (mill edge): guaranteed to be -0”/+0.500” of specification. Width (cut edge): guaranteed to be -0”/+0.125”, in 98% of the length of the coil. The remaining 2% length of coil shall be within 100% of ASTM A-568 tolerance.

Telescoping Until Permissible Ranges: Maximum telescope of 2”, maximum coil misa-& alignment received lignment of 1”, and coil misalignment for HSLA of 1.5”. For material

thicker than 0.250”, a maximum coil misalignment of 4” applies.
