Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, (1805-1871)

Founder of CMI Congregation

Blessed Chavara, our Inspiration, was a great visionary and pioneer who left his footprints in the fields of education, social reform, communication, culture and religious formation.

He was born on 10 February 1805 at Kainakary, Kerala, was trained as a

Priest, found his calling in serving humanity cutting across caste, creed and gender and founded CMI Congregation in the year 1831.

The first Catholic Sanskrit School (1846), seminaries for the education and formation of the clergy, a publishing house, a house for the dying and the destitute, schools for general education were some of his major contributions.

Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first indigenous religious congregation of India with a membership of 2000, renders its service to humanity in educational, social, health care and other activities, aiming at the integral development of the society.

The College

Christ College, Pune was born out of the educational vision of Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of CMI congregation. Blessed Chavara was a great educationalist and a social reformer of the 19 century. He

Christ College, Pune is a noble venture by “Carmel Vidya Bhavan Trust”

formed by the members of the congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI).

Christ College, Pune is located at Vadagaonsheri in North-East Pune, opposite Weikfield IT Park, with the fast developing suburbs of Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar and Kharadi as surrounding areas along with large IT Parks and residential areas.

Duration: 2 years, Part I & Part II having two semesters in each part. Every semester will have four papers (two compulsory and two special papers) of 100 marks each.

Eligibility: Any Degree of University of Pune or any other recognized University.

The entire course is a two years / four semesters' course. The last semester involves Industrial training.

Msc in Computer Science covers various aspects which can be applied to technology, science, business and education. A person who has done M.Sc. Computer Science will have opportunities in software development, testing and networking.

Companies such as Oracle, HP, Wipro, IBM, Compaq etc. are hiring people with M.Sc.

Computer Science qualification. A person who is very much interested in teaching computer science or doing research in the field of computer should definitely go for M.Sc. Computer Science

The Programme is a blend of 3 areas of studies viz. Information systems, Software product development and Knowledge Processing in a wide variety of Commercial domains, the main focus of which shall be on developing competencies required for computer application in IT and business.

Eligibility:

a. Any Degree of University of Pune or any other recognized University.

b. Every eligible candidate has to pass the Common Entrance Test conducted by the University/College

c. The candidates holding a Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Science have to satisfactorily complete an additional course in ”Commercial Operations and Business Practices” in semester I of M.C.A.

Admission Procedure

Admissions for the First Year commences immediately on declaration of HSC result.

The Prospectus and Application Form are available at the college office on a payment of :

For Undergraduate Courses and M.Com - Rs. 200/ For M.C.A., M.Sc Computer Science - Rs. 600/-

The Application Form can also be downloaded from the College website www.christcollegepune.org and submitted with a DD for Rs. 200/-(for Under-Graduate courses and M.Com) and Rs. 600/-(M.C.A., M.Sc Computer Science) The following documents are required for spot admission:

1. Duly filled in Application Form with one photograph pasted and two photos attached (dark red background) 2. Statement of marks in original and 3 copies of the same.

3. Leaving Certificate/Transfer Certificate in original and 3 copies of the same

4. The original Migration Certificate is required for candidates from boards other than the Maharashtra State Board.

5. In case of a gap between year of last exam passed and year of seeking admission, a Gap Certificate on Rs.20/- non-Judicial stamp paper signed by a notary is required.

6. Duly filled in Eligibility Application Form.

(1) Presence of either father/mother/guardian along with candidate is a must for admission.

(2) Academic Session commences on 15 June 2013.th

(3) Fees once paid will not be refunded.

Permission for admission to the University Examination will not be granted unless, 1. A student has put in at least 75% attendance in each subject during the academic year.

2. A student gets at least the minimum pass marks in the examinations conducted by the college as per the norms laid down.

3. Principal is satisfied with the conduct and character of the student.

4. Students are expected to abide by all the rules and regulations of the college.
