For most companies the two most commonly-used storage media for data backup and data archiving duties are hard disk drives (HDDs) and tape, with each imposing its own particular combination of strengths and weaknesses. HDDs offer high performance but lack easy scalability and media removability (the latter key to making data copies for rapid restores in the event of a disaster). Tapes have the scalability and removability that HDDs don’t provide, but tape’s middling speed and lack of random data access results in lengthened backup windows, slower restores and more time-consuming archival searches.

RDX A8 STORAGE ARRAY

The Imation RDX A8 gives SMBs an affordable

networked storage array appliance, its RDX cartridges combining high transfer rates and random data access to enable shorter backup windows and quicker restorations. Operating in Tape Emulation mode, the A8 functions as single tape drive library, spanning all cartridges to provide seamless handling of large data sets. In JBOD mode, the A8 appears as eight individual RDX cartridge drives, each with its own drive letter.
