INTRODUCTION
FRAS BELTS :Certain working environments such as coal mines & sensitive petrochemical installations require V-belts having Fire Resistant properties in addition to normal Anti-static properties.
FRAS (Fire Resistant Antistatic Belts) belts are suitable for such environments. This construction is thoroughly tested during and after manufacture to comply with all aspects of
IS-2494 Part II and BS-3790. ‘PIX’ FRAS belts conforms to : II 2GD c IIB X (Test report no. IB-03-4-934)
HEAT RESISTANT BELTS
Continuous contact with oil & grease have harmful effects on the belt life. The Heat Resistant properties of regular construction belts allow drive operations in ambient

temperature up to 70 C. Ambient temperature above 70 C may lead to premature ageing of belts. For both these conditions PIX AOH belts are to be used. Its special Oil Resistant cover protects the belt from contamination. Also these belts have been developed to work in ambient

temperature up to 100 C. PIX AOH belts are also Anti-static.

WRAPPED & COGGED CONSTRUCTION V-BELTS Installation and maintenance
• The drive should always be inspected periodically. • Prior to installation, inspect sheave for dirt, rust, cracks
burrs etc.
• The belts should never be forced on the pulleys.
• Maintain proper belt tension to avoid slippage. Always use ‘PIX Tension Tester’ for tensioning/re-tensioning.
• Change your belts
-- If cracks are observed at the side wall or at the bottom. - If the cord is protruding out from the belt.
4. Place Tension Tester at the centre of the span of the belt. Apply force with the help of Tension Tester perpendicular to the span till the lower surface of the ring touches the string.
5. Read the deflection force value (N) on the Newton Scale by taking reading at the lower side of the upper ring. 6. Compare the deflection force value (N) with the values
given in the table ‘A’. The deflection force value (N) should lie between the minimum and maximum values given in the table ‘A’.
7. Deflection force less than minimum recommended value in the range indicates an under-tensioned drive and
deflection force higher than maximum recommended value indicates an over-tensioned drive.
POLY/RIBBED V-BELTS Installation procedure :
1. Switch off the main supply before beginning with the exercise of installation.
2. Bring the pulleys closer to each other so that the belt can be removed easily.
3. Inspect the pulley grooves for any scores, sharp edges, dirt and rust. Clean them as required.
4. Ensure the alignment of pulleys. Make sure that the shafts are also properly aligned.
5. Mount the ribbed belt with no tension. Make sure that the ribs have been properly seated in the grooves.
6. Tension the ribbed belts as per the procedure recommended.
7. Give some running time to the drive so that the belts are properly seated in the grooves.
8. Guard the drive properly.
Tensioning procedure :
1. Fit the belt on the pulleys with no tension
2. Draw two perpendicular lines across the belt at about 80% of the belt span between the pulleys as shown in the figure. Say for example the lines are placed 1000 mm apart. ( A ).
3. Increase the distance between two lines by 0.5 to 0.75% i.e. by 5 mm to 7.5 mm for an initial spacing of 1000 mm, so that the (A) now becomes 1007.5 mm.
