Community Forums were held at Pinecrest High School, February 23, 2015; Union Pines High School, March 10, 2015; and North Moore High School, March 16, 2015 in order to solicit feedback on the curriculum for the Concept High School. The

Pinecrest

• There may be a saturation here in this area. (Horticultural) Keeps salary low. Just food for thought.

• Do we teach equine science, seems to be a need/opportunity in this area.

• Interested in farm management, future in this, untapped.

• Collaboration with ADH & CA for Farm to Table, local farmers

• Partnerships with local golf courses

• Animal Science – Add equine program

• Application process for pathways

• Golf is huge in area, found nationwide

• Organic/natural agriculture

• Small scale farming Union Pines

• Other opportunities – Extension, USDA, NCDA

• Really need to work with College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NC State for pathway to transfer admission

• The cost savings/opportunity for students to enter the pilot, aviation field, exciting!

• Welding, electrician (tradesman) – Right on track!

• Goes hand in hand with military as well

• Add carpentry, brick masonry trades/drafting, employable skills

• NC State Schools of Textiles is growing, work with them on pre-requisites of that program

• Question? How transferable are credits taken at Concept High School? Do the kids have to be “very careful” when selecting classes they wish to transfer?

• Core curriculum path – undecided

• Will the kids be housed at SCC?

• Can kids take courses in more than one “pathway”

• Can kids “knock out” core curriculum classes? – by taking/grouping core classes in 9th_/10th_{grade while deciding?}
