1. What is your
MEASURED
height in feet and
inches?
2. ESTIMATE
how tall you would be if you measured
your height in soda cans.
(Example: I estimate that
the desk is 10 soda cans tall.)
Please pass forward any Student Inventories and Lab
Safety Contracts which are DUE TODAY!
This stopwatch is timing how long it takes you to get
ready. It will stop after
everyone
- has completed a
warm up
- has their
student work
in front of them
- is
sitting

Converting Metric Units
•
Kilo-, centi-, and milli- are the most commonly
used metric unit conversions, so you should
know how to convert between units without a
calculator! Here’s a trick to help you:
Measuring & Estimating Lab
Directions:
• With a partner, you will rotate through 6 stations that ask you measure and estimate the physical properties of different things.
• At each station, follow the directions given and answer the questions for that station in your student work.
• You will have 3-4 minutes to complete each station and answer the questions, so work carefully, but be on task so you can rotate when it is time.
Measuring & Estimating Lab Stations
Make sure you are aware of where the next station is
before you move!
Station 1 Station 2 Station 3 Station 4 Station 5 Station 6
Check your answers with other
groups!
•
Station 1: Width of Penny
•
Station 2: Volume of Water
•
Station 3: Length of Book
•
Station 4: Time
•
Station 5: Room Temperature
•
Station 6: Mass of Eraser
Why is it important that we use set
units
when
we
measure
things in science?
